Hi there!

#

Can you share the account ID so I can take a look?

neon kettle
#

I tried contacting Support about this, but they didn't know what I was talking about and recommended I try asking here

#

one sec and I'll get it

#

acct_1LcZESGXF2Hq9d0i

Thanks give me a moment to look

Hi, could i possibly get some help after you are finished with this user.

neon kettle
#

the "controlling platform" is me

ebon elk
#

@molten oak I'm helping multiple folks at once. I'll respond in your thread!

#

I have a parent account and child account that I created in Stripe Connect

#

apparently Stripe makes an authorized app in the child account, which is how Stripe Connect works

#

so I can't do anything about that authorization

#

but I have another child account that I have been able to successfully link with a 3rd party platform without problems

#

acct_1LZ5lZEAuG5ZFCFq

#

on my Beehive Registration child account profile, you will see that I have the Register4Comps parent account listed as an authorized app, but also Gravity forms

#

that is what I am trying to do for the Beehive Admissions child profile

#

but I get this:

ebon elk
#

Hmm okay thanks for clarifying

#

Give me a few mins

neon kettle
#

thanks for your help

#

I know I can "Create a new account", but that account will be under Stripe as the parent and not my Register4Comps parent account, which is why I created Beehive Admissions

#

(to complicate things, I didn't realize Stripe had created an additional profile that was called Register4comps - acct_1LcZNTCavhmUDcUO)

#

which is not the same as my parent account Register4Comps - acct_1LXn8YBnXqK6Agnt

#

I had Universe as an authorized app in the Beehive Admissions yesterday

#

but the Universe config was wrong

#

so I revoked Universe in the Beehive Admissions child account

#

but now it seems that Stripe still thinks it is linked somehow

#

but I can't see anything other than the parent in my authorized app page

hexed crest
#

Taking over but this is unlikely to be something I can help with here

#

Let's take a step back because you have many accounts mentions so it's a bit confusing.

neon kettle
#

I agree

#

some of it is not my fault! 🙂

hexed crest
#

all good

neon kettle
#

I basically want to link my Beehive Admissions account to Universe

#

I had Universe as an authorized app yesterday

#

it was configured incorrectly, so I revoked it

#

now I cannot reconnect it

hexed crest
#

let's breathe and pause

#

Is it expected that acct_1LcZESGXF2Hq9d0i (Beehive Admissions) is connected to a platform called "Register4Comps"?

neon kettle
#

(phone call) BRB

#

I'll send a recap of the accounts in a sec when I get off this call

hexed crest
#

Okay I dug into this on my end.
You have an account, acct_1LcZESGXF2Hq9d0i (Beehive Admissions)
It's connected to a platform named "Register4Comps"
You are trying to connect that account to another platform named "Universe (USD)". This is forbidden, because your account is already connected to "Register4Comps".
So you will have to create a brand new account, no way around it

neon kettle
#

Beehive Admissions is a child account of Register4Comps through Stripe Connect

#

that is something Stripe did, not me

hexed crest
#

Nope you did it

neon kettle
#

right, I am referring to the authorized app requirement

hexed crest
#

I don't know what an "authorized app requirement" is. But you went through OAuth and connected the Beehive Stripe account to the Register4Comps Connect platform yourself. That platform then got control of the account.

neon kettle
#

Beehive Registration is also a child of Register4Comps, but it has a 3rd party platform authorized for it

#

(in addition to Register4comps)

#

ok, sorry, this has my full attention now

#

I wanted to have a way to have a parent account with child accounts

#

Stripe Connect appears to be the official way to do that

#

So I created Register4Comps as the parent account

#

Beehive Registration and Beehive Admissions are child accounts of Register4Comps

hexed crest
#

At this point, those accounts can not connect to the majority of other platforms. You will almost always get a new Stripe account when you do that. There are a few exceptions (like Gravity Forms) but it's rare.

neon kettle
#

The Beehive Admissions account had Universe as an authorized platform yesterday

#

I revoked it and now am trying to add it back

hexed crest
#

no

neon kettle
#

(phone call)

hexed crest
#

Yesterday it had a different Universe platform. Not the same one you are trying to connect right now. They have multiple platforms. One of those platforms can be connected and the other can not.
Unfortunately this is really not something we should be helping you with here, it's not code, it's not about our API and it looks like overall confusion. My guess is you likely should not have use Connect with Register4Comps or created "child accounts" the way you are framing it.

neon kettle
#

what is the purpose of Stripe Connect? Isn't it to be able to have a platform where you provide support to customers?

#

that is what I am trying to do

#

I have several clients, they all want me to completely support them in creating a Stripe account and managing it

#

I thought Stripe Connect is the best way to do that

hexed crest
#

It depends on many things really

neon kettle
#

for the child accounts in Stripe Connect, are they not able to utilize any other platform other than the parent accounts

hexed crest
#

Like are they just separate clients, and you have completely separate code for all of them?

neon kettle
#

yes

#

but they want me to manage it for them

#

but they also want to have access to the reporting, so I need to give them access as a team member

hexed crest
#

yeah I don't see how Connect could be a fit for you here, they are just completely independent and separate Stripe accounts

neon kettle
#

I don't want to mix the transactions between the accounts, so I can't just put them into my account

hexed crest
#

sure, I'm not asking you to do that either

#

you need to create a Stripe account per client/business, each completely independent and separate Stripe accounts

neon kettle
#

I thought Connect was for this purpose of having a bunch of clients that I manage and have a simple way to access their accounts, etc

hexed crest
#

no that is absolutely not Connect is about

#

looks like you're doing this just to get Dashboard access to them all or something

neon kettle
#

I like the fact that the Connect dashboard allows me to access their account as them

#

really I was trying to create accounts that I control that I can give them access to

hexed crest
neon kettle
#

but when I create the account, I need to submit the business information, which ends up being mine...

hexed crest
#

No it should be the client's information and their company/business details not your own

neon kettle
#

sure, but I don't have their business info, and I need to control the account

#

what is the use case for Connect?

hexed crest
#

I mean you need to ask their info. You absolutely should not give the wrong information for an account this would be really bad.

#

I hope I helped clarify the issue here. I would recommend going back to our support team at this point. I don't think Discord is the best place to get help for all of this though we wanted to make sure you were clear on what was happening. You can contact them here: https://support.stripe.com/contact

neon kettle
#

I guess I am confused as to why the Universe link yesterday worked, but the one today will not

#

I guess I also don't understand if a Connect Standard account cannot have a connection to any other platform besides the parent account, how can it be used...?

hexed crest
#

it's a different link

#

the ca_123456 in the URL is different

neon kettle
#

so the link request type from Universe was different?

hexed crest
#

I think so, you were connected to a different one yesterday at least

neon kettle
#

and the link request type from Gravity Forms is allowed?

hexed crest
#

yes because they have a special feature that lets them do that

neon kettle
#

that apparently Universe doesn't have

hexed crest
#

correct, or rather they have it on one platform and not the other one

#

ultimately you shouldn't use Connect yourself which will make all of this moot I think

neon kettle
#

ok, this is what confused me as to why the one could work and the other couldn't

#

I thought I understood Connect

#

apparently not

#

I will research it further

#

thank you for your help

#

I wish Stripe would not have implemented the 1 platform only policy

#

that would help me in this situation

hexed crest
#

sure but there are a lot of upsides to that change too

neon kettle
#

but what if I want to integrate with multiple different platforms and the same Stripe account?

#

like Universe and Gravity Forms?

#

I should create a different profile for each platform?

hexed crest
#

Yes you should have a separate account for each one in that case
