Okay so that Connected Account has a controlling platform (https://support.stripe.com/questions/standard-connect-with-platform-controls) so it can't connect to another platform.

I have a parent account and child account that I created in Stripe Connect
apparently Stripe makes an authorized app in the child account, which is how Stripe Connect works
so I can't do anything about that authorization
but I have another child account that I have been able to successfully link with a 3rd party platform without problems

on my Beehive Registration child account profile, you will see that I have the Register4Comps parent account listed as an authorized app, but also Gravity forms
that is what I am trying to do for the Beehive Admissions child profile

I know I can "Create a new account", but that account will be under Stripe as the parent and not my Register4Comps parent account, which is why I created Beehive Admissions
(to complicate things, I didn't realize Stripe had created an additional profile that was called Register4comps - acct_1LcZNTCavhmUDcUO)
which is not the same as my parent account Register4Comps - acct_1LXn8YBnXqK6Agnt

but the Universe config was wrong
so I revoked Universe in the Beehive Admissions child account
but now it seems that Stripe still thinks it is linked somehow
but I can't see anything other than the parent in my authorized app page

You have an account, acct_1LcZESGXF2Hq9d0i (Beehive Admissions)
It's connected to a platform named "Register4Comps"
You are trying to connect that account to another platform named "Universe (USD)". This is forbidden, because your account is already connected to "Register4Comps".
So you will have to create a brand new account, no way around it
Beehive Admissions is a child account of Register4Comps through Stripe Connect

I don't know what an "authorized app requirement" is. But you went through OAuth and connected the Beehive Stripe account to the Register4Comps Connect platform yourself. That platform then got control of the account.
Beehive Registration is also a child of Register4Comps, but it has a 3rd party platform authorized for it

Beehive Registration and Beehive Admissions are child accounts of Register4Comps
At this point, those accounts can not connect to the majority of other platforms. You will almost always get a new Stripe account when you do that. There are a few exceptions (like Gravity Forms) but it's rare.

Yesterday it had a different Universe platform. Not the same one you are trying to connect right now. They have multiple platforms. One of those platforms can be connected and the other can not.
Unfortunately this is really not something we should be helping you with here, it's not code, it's not about our API and it looks like overall confusion. My guess is you likely should not have use Connect with Register4Comps or created "child accounts" the way you are framing it.
what is the purpose of Stripe Connect? Isn't it to be able to have a platform where you provide support to customers?

No it should be the client's information and their company/business details not your own

I guess I am confused as to why the Universe link yesterday worked, but the one today will not
I guess I also don't understand if a Connect Standard account cannot have a connection to any other platform besides the parent account, how can it be used...?

I think so, you were connected to a different one yesterday at least

yes because they have a special feature that lets them do that
that apparently Universe doesn't have
correct, or rather they have it on one platform and not the other one
ultimately you shouldn't use Connect yourself which will make all of this moot I think

Yes you should have a separate account for each one in that case
