Hi there!

Identity verification is an async process and only begins once the identity info (like SSN) has been entered after the account has been created. So unfortunately there is no way to do this ahead of account creation.

What type of accounts are you using?

I'm creating Custom connected accounts for independent contractors and businesses, so I was looking for ways to verify the SSN of contractors in real-time

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. Overall this just isn't possible — verification depends on external partners and isn't always instant. I'd recommend just starting that verification process as early as possible in your flow (create the account with SSN) and then if you haven't received a verification outcome by the time they are finishing your flow then you would have to follow up afterwards.
