the way you're doing it is correct I think. It's likely null because it's in test mode so we didn't actually send the receipt, or you have email receipts turned off on your account. What's the invoice ID in_xxx?

as far as I can tell it has a receiptNumber you can see it in the snapshot of https://dashboard.stripe.com/events/evt_1LT5r9LEXedZWGi9n8weQNSj for example
maybe you ran that code you mentioned at the wrong time, like you ran it as soon as the Invoice was created and not after it had been paid and the charge/receipt was actually generated, so receipt_number wasn't present yet?
