Follow up Q — is it correct to assume that this invoice created by the cancelation will always be created first in the draft state?

For context: If the invoice is only finalized ~1 hour after being created this can cause problems for us in this particular use case, since we might need to recreate the subscription but would prefer to consume customer credits balance from the prorations on the draft invoice before charging the customer again.

Yeah they'll always be in a draft before they're automatically finalized in an hour
