3DS authentication is something the issuing bank demands and not Stripe
so you can't really choose whether or not to do 3DS for a certain card
if you find a trend of cards being rejected upon 3DS I strongly recommend you send examples to support https://support.stripe.com/?contact=true and they will raise the issue to the appropriate team to investigate

Thanks for replying, the bit I struggle with is that it does 3ds through the API but when I go into the dashboard it will take payments so just wondering what the difference was between the api and the dashboard?
are you passing the information of the card on the dashboard?
we try and take payment throught the api then use the same details to take payment in the dashboard

we are only doing that if we are unable to take the payment through the api
the idea is that when you do that we categorize the payment as MOTO transactions, which fall outside of SCA. so no 3DS will be demanded
but in the normal scope your implementation should take SCA into account
