But there is an alternative to use Plaid iirc. Let me find it

yes, we have used hybrid approach (connect customer onboarding flow.) https://stripe.com/docs/connect/connect-onboarding
and we follow this statement for getting account information for their payouts Connect Onboarding for Custom Accounts does not collect the external_account requirement. To collect external_account, use Stripe Elements.

Yes that's the part to collect your Custom accounts' bank, which is called external_account. As the Doc say you can use Stripe Elements or the Plaid flow above to collect the Bank Account token, which is in the form of btok_xxx

I have use that now 1 of my connect account wanted to update his/her bank account details for payouts we need to attach a new external_account or we can update the existing one as well.
this is for payouts to our connect custom account.
