I’m not sure if 8GB of ram is enough for the current setup, CPU should be fine, since it’s i5 7500. If there’s more than 10 players, then maybe I can consider upgrading to 16GB ram, since I am running 2 servers at the moment.

I can vouch that my i7 5600u with 8gbs of ddr3 can run a light modpack (create + space stuff + some others) with 4 concurrent players no problem.

If your server is i7 7500 with 8gb DDR4 then I definitely think it would handle that light modpack + 12-20 players fine though cpu might heat up quite a bit

This is what I have in mind if we were to use Lian's device.

To protect his IP, there would be an added layer (my VPS) that would route connections from players to his server and vice versa. If any malicious activity happens, my host will lock down the connection and any IP scanning would just lead to singapore (where my vps is at)

Downside would obviously being ping since now there's an extra hop before being transported to the minecraft server

and then there's the paid option...

When it comes to linux servers, I'd generally prefer a fully headless system (no GUI just commandline)

since its main purpose is to dedicate to hosting, rendering graphics is unnecessary
