Vengeance says: "...this model can advance 3" and make one basic melee attack"

I know I can choose to take the advance or not to. But if I choose to advance, do I have to make a melee attack or is it that I can make a melee attack.

Asking this because I realized that unlike ranged and arcane attacks where it says "A model can make a ranged/arcane attack against any target in its line of sight and within the weapon's range" Melee attack does not specify this. So you can always do a melee attack against anyone, it just misses.

So lets say I resolve Vengeance and I choose to make an advance and I then have to target someone and make melee attack that misses, it might trigger some unwanted effects. So, just wanting to make sure you can choose to advance and you can choose to attack.

Both the advance and the attack from Vengeance are optional.

You cam choose to not advance and not attack, advance and attack, advance and not attack, or not advance and the attack.

As an aside, melee attacks are also limited to targets in range - you cannot make a melee attack that is "out of range" and miss.

Attacks just say that out of range is a miss.

#

Arcane and range specify that you need to be in range to be able to attack

#

In melee attack, it's not there. So I assume its been ruled somewhere else.

It's a little buried, but it's in there
