#faction channels

(Assuming this is specific to the Warmachine game)
I'd add that a possibly better organization would be by Armies (instead of Factions) since, at least as of now, two armies from the same faction can't be played together and have no crossover other than a handful of models in their shared cadre.
ah yeah, added the warmachine to the post.
Adding this suggestion here, since there was a discussion in warmachine about it
"Faction channels" could even just be a forum channel, where no new posts can be added, and there's a post for each faction or army. That way it's not cluttering up the sidebar as a default and anyone can just "follow" the factions they want to
So a reference library by group? Who would hydrate it? And with what?
Less a library, and more a skeleton from which longform faction discussions could start. The idea being each "forum post" would just functionally act as a channel for each faction discussion, and only mods would be able to add a new post. If your following a post, it would sort of functionally show up as a subchannel for you, but if you don't follow any it won't clutter up your sidebar
For instance, I'm following this post and it looks like this on my sidebar. Others wouldn't have this subchannel pop up
While I'm here, it functionally just looks like any other channel to me
At least to the extent that it just allows for long form continuous discussion
The key difference is that it will be much less visible to newcomers with time.
Like how a Reddit post allows for long form discussion as long as the post is on the front page.
I think that last part is the kicker, and a pretty big caveat. I actually think this method would provide more visibility in the long run for someone wanting to jump into a chat room for their specific army or faction
"as long as the post is on the front page" would be something to avoid
That's basically discords problem
But on a chatroom scale
I think Discord has long since proven that the usebility of the platform is solely our problem 🤣
I guess that's what I'm getting at. There's a solution on this platform to allow for faction chatrooms within this discord, and one that wouldn't cause us to have a bunch of channels on the sidebar by default
It'd just be a forum channel called "warmachine faction discussion" that would allow people to join into their relevant faction discussions by joining a forum post. Something like this would work equally well for guildball
And warcaster
Godtear and riotquest seem a little more faction amorphous, so it probably works less well for them
This is hurting my head, I need a visual.
Think of this forum post we're in as the visual.
Currently, from where we're chatting, it looks a lot like a bog standard discord channel.
From the sidebar it is hidden until you go into the "server" forum channel and comment/follow the discussion.
Once you've commented or followed this discussion, it will show up on the sidebar like a sub-channel, so you as a user can see when it updates. It's a more granular way to subscribe to channel discussions about each faction without adding another 22 (in warmachine's case) channels to join when someone enters the server.
If you'll permit me time to get back to you in 12 hrs (when I have free time again today), I can recreate my idea on a personal discord exactly as I'm envisioning it to better showcase what I mean
Sure, that would be great.
Apologies, my time wasn't my own today, and with the holiday here I'll have to get back with you this weekend
it’s no rush, mate, that’s exactly why these things take time.
I need pictures of spiderman faction channels on my desk by noon Parker! 😠🤣
