#request feature: Ask-a-Mod Channel

Well I'll be damned, a feature request in #1080422317022248980 . Must be the first on topic post in a year..!
Self promo rules are up in #📜︱rules (basically - not without explicit permission), but we do have the mini-mods floating amongst us that can answer 99% of questions.
If you want to look up to see if a question is already answered, you can globally search the server - which is as good as what you'd be able to do if the answers were in a single channel; the only issue is that Discord's search function, especially on mobile, is very hit or miss.
Right, I mostly mean that chasing down a mini-mod to ask a self-promo question isn’t… ya know? I know many don’t like DMing people out of the blue to ask “hey, can I do this?”
Having the search was really secondary to removing the barrier of DM or ask in open thread. >.>
I get what you're saying. I'd prefer to ping a role rather than a person, and sometimes posting in general channels defeats the purpose and DMs are likely to go ignored if only because Discord makes them difficult to see these days.
Nowadays I just settle for bullying @obsidian fjord 😅
I know there are ticket system bots you can implement which I feel would be the ideal solution for this issue; but I also think SFG staffers might have a panic attack if they have to monitor a second inbound queue 😅
What do you think David? You've usually got good insight on this kind of thing.
The upside of a ticket system, even if it’s just ones for content creators, would mean that it’s easy to verify who got approval and for what they got approval for.
If discord bots worked as a vaguely competent CRMs. The systems I've used on discord work by creating a channel for a ticket, and dispose of them afterwards, which means you effectively lose that data.
But free discord bot isn't a competitor for things like dynamics or Salesforce 😅
Ah. I’m a Luddite so…
My self-promotion question would be “can I network with other creators to put together an IKRPG campaign to stream together using the server as a means to connect? And what is the preferred way to go about it?”
Hmm... I'd say that's not really self promo - though I could absolutely see value in there being a channel for the content creator role. All of SFG products take more than 2 to tango, so networking would definitely be something important.
There’s a #📹︱creators channel for this purpose.
There’s also the #📜︱rules which are generally against self promotion, and the way I’ve handled it to date is you’re free to post the thing you’ve done in the channel as a link, but always respect that the channel is for everyone’s use, so I ask everyone refrain from multi posts. If someone is asking about [whatever] and your video covers it, ask to DM them or suggest “Google this and my video will come up.” Thank you for asking, and if anything is unclear, or needs to change, please let me know!
It’s much less a “here’s what I did” and more a “here’s what I’d like to do with other creators”
But it does dance on the line of self promotion
A what channel
I’d post that in the #📹︱creators channel Baz can’t see, that’s exactly what it’s for.
Select “Creator” under roles to see it.
When did this channel get stood up?! Thought we were in server. Cool.
Ohh that’s the REQUEST. Sadly vacation ends tomorrow.
Hi all, Dan from Tried and True team here. We are coming in from the PP Warmachine acq and I'm excited to get involved in the new community. I tried reviewing the channel rules and other information but I still have a few questions about how things are done on this server. You all have all these shiny buttons and stuff 😅
Where can we find out how to get roles/name colors/etc.
Sorry if this is posted somewhere and I missed it. Last few days have been a little hectic. Thanks in advance! ❤️
I'm creasing up that this is now the "ask a mod" channel. 🤣
@rapid silo - not a mod, but colours are usually through interaction with the discord. Getting to dark purple has taken me quite a while.
Generally members come in as white, or green if they're a kick starter backer.
Then you get other colours by length of service and interaction.
You've got a different green for the "knight" rank, blue for the "seneschal" rank, dark purple for "master" then light purple for "champion" which I think is the highest non-staff rank (champions are like mini mods).
Looks like you've already got all the freely applicable roles - was there something in particular you were hoping for?
@ruby sentinel - do you think you could edit the title of this post to prevent confusion? Even just prefixing with "request" or something, funny as it is 😅
May I follow up with you in a more appropriate channel? Do not want to make your "ask-a-mod problem" worse. Apologies! 🙏 (DM me if it's better for you)
request feature: Ask-a-Mod Channel
Fiiine
To be transparent - I'm just a user 😅
I just like to help where I can.
HMU in #🫖︱lobby or #🦐︱random , those are both pretty topic agnostic.
I'd like to have a conversation about the way the Warmachine thread has been moderated today.
I even made the changes! 😿
Head over to #🫖︱lobby - this is a request for mod channel, and not in itself a mod channel 🤣
Alternatively, open a new post in #1080422317022248980
I think the value of having one is demonstrated now though. 😹
Yeah, you're not wrong there 😅
Sometimes us dummies have good ideas! Lol
You’re not a dummy by any stretch, but the server is as good a place as any. We just need a Mod tag on it.
Vtubers call ourselves dum, it’s just part of the meta.
