I downloaded the app today to connect the ps5 controller to play from pc, but it keeps telling me to update from version 1.4.9 to 1.5.0 but after downloading the update and restarting the app it keeps giving me the same message of needing to update

You clearly didn't get it. It's not an update, it's telling you that future updates will be available from the paid steam version
