Those will have pretty different play styles, the hornet when played at br or in a decent downtier should feel slower paced but its up tiers are brutal. Su30 is in a really good spot, second best rank 8 premium and will teach you fox 3s
I honestly wouldnt bother with the hornet until you finish the Russian tree
The su30 will take time to learn but once you can get 2 or 3 kills a match the grind should start flowin

Its nothing like VTOL imo,
in VTOL the notch filter is very small, but once the missile is off it usually doesnt reaquire instantly
in WT the notch is quite forgiving but if you don't pull a very agressive in plane maneuver you will get reaquired
Ammount of chaff is not very important, I usually do 1 chaff per second for 5 ish seconds while pulling max g up or down
repeat until MAWS/RWR clear
If you are trying to chaff CW missiles you are just a little cooked, they need to be chaffed quite early or they will just keep guiding

Its crucial to keep yourself moving for ARH’s in WT, every chaff you need to reposition so youre not found again bc unfortunately alot of the missiles in WT are very smart and know if their target suddenly stops moving then the real target must be ahead of that

9M’s use seeker shutoff so to flare them you have to flare and then change direction of ur direction change.
So like if ur pulling up u flare and then jink quickly in another direction that would be apparent from the missiles POV
ARH’s in war thunder use the same seeker shutoff logic for higher end missiles.
I immediately got better at notching everything when I just started treating ARH’s like 9M’s

The r27R is a really good missile within about 6km or 3ish Mi, it has a datalink so even if your radar drops and reacquires it will stick to the target,
The r73 is probably the second best ir missile in the game, it has irrcm so it can be flare resistant but usually only in rear aspect. It also thrust vectors which results in some really nuts shots in dogfights, especially using the hmcs, and at 12.3 its beyond what people expect especially in down tiers
The r27T is really situational, its the same kinematically as the R variant but essentially has a narrower fov r73 seeker. It gives you an option to do some longer range fire and forget but has the same drawback of really only being flare resistant in rear aspect which results in a trashed missile even if your target just happens to fire their own missile/rockets or whatever

One thing that you can make use of is event vehicles, every few months they put up an event where if you play enough you get the event vehicle, last two were the Mig-25 and the dutch F-16, so that could be a good way to try a high tier

The biggest trap people fall into is the mindset of "I'm bad because I'm new so imma buy a Tornado or A-10 or Mirage F1C and bomb bases and attack ground targets" which leads to them never getting good and suffering, so don't fall into that trap

then you can make a transition to realistic when you're comfortable gunning in late ww2 but I never really did that until early jets cause I sucked ass

My guess is it'll be a systems test, if it's stealth they'll do something silly like a stealth UAV in a goofy themed ground mode or a UFO/Aliens vs 4th gens and they test that there.
Could also be HARMs testing
Even the most nonsenical one of recent (MAD MAX Event) was to test dynamic weather and dynamic vehicle parts destruction
the former has been half implemented in the form of "bad weather" matches and the later is fully implemented for decorations/wheels on cars/random bits and bobs on tanks.

It's nice that it's easy on the low end tho, I recommend trying like 3-4 countries out to rank 3 or sumn
just to get a well rounded idea/concept of all the different types of fighters/attackers/bombers

The dune one was just "big map" vehicle test cuz the scale was HUGE thanks to rail guns
