that's why it's only functionally and not theoretically useless. In practice you almost never need more than 60. The controls also don't exactly make it easy to get a lock and it can be inconsistent to actually acquire. I can see it being useful as a stealth launch option though.

But yeah a few times in equal or losing merges iv won because of the additional fov, especially if I need to turn the other direction (ie to defend a missile or engage someone else) then its not just saving the 30 deg onto target, its also saving another 30 off target

and sometimes the viper radar simply does not want to lock the extremely obvious hot target just because they happen to be 0.1 degrees below the horizon

they get too close to helicopter, half the time they didnt even flare

easy to avoid fox 1s and 3s by standing still or landing

The phantom does pretty well in Cold War servers if the pilot isn’t brain dead and can punch a little bit above its weight against things like fox 1 only flankers or fulcrums

Streagle does pretty good in air to ground but is missing a lot due to the Razbam drama. You can still hold your own tho as pretty much everything is usable(AMRAAMs, tpod, jdams, lgbs,)

Oh yeah also no datalink in streagle

Tomcat is pretty fun, lot of practice needed in order to help your RIO out in certain situations but not too hard, mostly just theory
