I’m venturing into HH with some friends and we are getting two boxes to split between the four of us.

I love the Raven guard from 40k and really like their lore, so I came up with this list. I really need help as I’m not sure what I’m doing. Please help!

I'll preface this by saying fluff trumps all, so if you've based these specific choices on the story for your army then you can ignore all of the following.

That out the way:

-that Deliverers unit is enormous for a 1000 point game and you might find you're better served with a 5-man unit + something else
-the Praetor can't DS in with the Deliverers, if that's what you were intending, + gets no Legion trait bonus with Talons and terminator armour, so maybe swap for Artificer armour?
-a Delegatus might even be a better choice than praetor at 1k
-try and find space for a Nuncio vox on one of the units to aid the Deliverers DS

I second all of this

I third it. 5-man talon Deliverers is enough to f--- up pretty much anything you'll handle at 1000 points.

Also tbh, a 10 man of Deliverers is super mean at that size, they’re already really tough to kill at big point games, but at small point games it’ll feel impossible

Another thing that springs to mind - as you're not actually running a Rite of War, you could even consider taking a different type of Consul entirely and opening up some interesting options that way

Oh, and melta bombs and nemesis bolters on the Mor Deythan is something of a mismatched loadout - one lends itself to getting up close, the other to shooting from afar. It's not terrible, especially as MDs can move and fire nemeses without penalty, but it is sort of suboptimal.

With the points you could save by halving that Deliverers unit, you could get a Recon squad with melta bombs for the forward work and keep the MDs back; or take nemesis Recons and swap the MDs to have combi volkites (which is a good loadout)

#

One other thing of note is that you don't seem to have any real anti-tank of note here. I don't know if that's something you're leaving to your doubles partner or not, but worth bearing in mind

# slate torrent Oh, and melta bombs and nemesis bolters on the Mor Deythan is something of a mis...

All great feedback, I’m mainly using Battlescribe for the lists etc. and it doesn’t have all the options about rites of war/consuls or whatever.

I just need to take a look at what they are more in detail.

I’m mainly using the starter box, selling the Spartan and giving the contemptor to my partner. I don’t have too much to spend after that as I will be buying the books etc. is it possible to convert any of the units from the age of darkness into better units? (That’s what I’m doing with the deliverers + terminators etc.)

Also - what is a delegates? What model can I use to make it/buy it

#

Anything can be a delegatus. It’s a centurion upgrade that gets a rite of war

#

personally at 1k lists a contemptor is pretty standard, maybe try putting in one if you can

#

With T6-T7 weapons they’re a death dealer to infantry and your opponent is gonna have to put some serious time into killing it unless they have AT

slate torrent
#

I'll echo that - the Contemptor would be an excellent addition to your own list. If you've already promised it away then fair enough but a fist + multimelta + grav gun Contemptor is an excellent multi-purpose unit with good anti-tank/dread capability

#

The basic marines from the box you can potentially do quite a lot with (relatively) cheaply - adding a box of special weapons gets you a Tac support squad or squads, heavy weapons box gets you a heavy support squad, and you can convert Recons fairly straight forwardly. That being said, you are almost certainly going to want two squads of basic bolter bitches until you start going with wacky Rites (and probably still even then) so probably stick with those

#

A squad of (I assume) Tac support meltas is pretty fearsome and something your Deliverers will want to avoid, but then they're also pretty squishy if they're not in a Rhino and pretty short ranged so either stay away from or splat depending on how the game unfolds

I will definitely look at adding the Dreadnought then, let me make a list real quick

Is there any way to get around having to take two troops choices?

#

I’m confused on how to set up my army composition as Battlescribe isn’t updated and I tend to rely on that a lot

#

I’m running an escalation league with Iron warriors (raven guard aren’t made) and I used a delegates for a 1k point match

#

Actually for the sake of the argument let me post my list for ya

#

This is a list you could face at 1k

Thanks! Defo gonna get a delegatus in there

Is the box set even the best way to go? I have about £100 to spend (splitting yhe box) but could I do it better by buying separately?

For this type of list, I'd say your Mor Deythan are the better option to start with. Furies are great and I love them, but I think MDs have more utility - good against general power armour but absolutely nuke one choice target off the board. Furies slaughter basic dudes but you need some back up to go after the opponents heavy hitters with them.

If you're just starting out you can't really go wrong with the box set - the base dudes you will absolutely need in one form or another, a character is similarly mandatory. Deliverer-built Cataphractii are great and fit into so many different lists because of their native Deep Strike. I'd try and nab the Contemptor as well but obviously it depends on how evenly you're looking to split.

Yeah planning to get off wayland. Probably will sell the Spartan too as I won’t have any use for it and can spend that money on the MDs etc.

#

@slate torrent are there any other units worth converting from then tac squads?

#

what would be your 1000 point list witrh deliverers?

#

if i can go without the FW options for now and make the most out of the box that would be most preferred, however i do like MDs

slate torrent
#

I'm away from my books at the moment, will have to do a properly costed one when I get home, but would probably start with:

Centurion with some stuff
5x Deliverers with power fists and 1 multimelta (proxy or convert)
2x 10x Tacs, 5 chain bayos each and vox
5x Recons with nemeses
5x TSS with meltaguns
Contemptor with grav gun and multimelta

Are recons recon scout squads?

#

Oh looked them up - could convert a normal MK6

#

Just need to find snipers

Well they're not mutually exclusive, and I'd say having at least one vox on the board is very important if you've got a hard hitting DS coming in; especially if they're slow once they're in play like Deliverers
