I’m loving these fluffy Allied Detachment ideas and this one has got me excited.

It might not be practical, but it sure is bold to go Primarch-hunting with an Allied Detach. Very SW…who cares if it works!

Also the perfect excuse for (yet another) hobbying project without committing to a full army.

This thread is to figure out to actually make it work.

On that note…given that the buffs are for melee against Primarchs…well…it seems like the melee variant of Grey-whatever makes sense for the required Troops choice.

A Preator equiv kitted for combat likewise seems good for the HQ. Will go down to a Primarch, but again, fluffy that he even tried

I like the idea of a Rune Priest in it as well, but not sure how that would work with HQ slots

I'm super excited to do a watch pack as well, but I can't actually decide what legion to pair them with. Right now I'm leaning towards Imperial Fists, because sworn brothers and I think they'd look good in Mark VI. Any thoughts on what legions the detachment would pair well with?

Yeah, I think it'd be cool to give them just a small detail or two from the legion they're deployed to. Maybe one of them has a small battle honor or trinket from that legion, or maybe even a power weapon in that legion's style.

It's good to remember that the watch packs weren't just passive guards. They fought along side their assigned legion, and I can totally see a primarch like Sanguinius or the Khan rewarding one of them with a nice weapon for a valorous action that lost/destroyed their original one.

Also, space marines that fought alongside each other sometimes exchanged or gambled various decorations/trinkets that they had. That could lead to some fun small details for both the SWs and the other legion

Which troops choice would be best for this allied detachment slayers or stalkers

The real question is if the Watch Pack gets bonuses vs Primarchs…who are probably accompanied by a Death Star unit…what SW unit can realistically have any shot at them? Vagyr? Deathsworn?

Yeah as an alpha legion player I'm lacking in the melee department

So Slayers prob

I just spent dedicated reading time to wrap my head around the differences. Stalkers can get a special shooting weapon for every 5 models.
