So I'm very much new to this hobby (I have plenty of 40k models but no 30k models yet), and given the leaks (which I haven't really read) what would you guys recommend for a small starter Iron Warriors army? More specifically, I want it to be predominantly Infantry based, I want said infantry to be durable and to be supported by artillery and maybe a tank or two (I'm also wanting something that's cheap money wise).
Would breachers be a good choice if they come in plastic? I'm interested in having most of my Iron Warriors in MK3 armor.

Breachers are solid troops choice and have a strong choice of weapons Bolters, Volkites, and Meltas but are very points heavy personally I take tacticals(downside they can only have bolters minus the sergeant) as Iron Warriors are fearless when it comes to shooting and can be durable with an attached apothecary plus leaves more points to spend on the variety of nasty heavy support units that they can bring like Tyrant Seige terminators
I second this. Ten men squad in a rhino with Multi-melta and dozer blade is just fine. Durable, usefull and still cheap
I'm not a big fan of breachers personally the extra protection and utility provided by the special weapons and shields aren't worth the extra point investment IMO. They do look cool though.
Tacticals are cheaper and will not run off an objective. A 20 man squad with extra close combat weapons will require a lot of dedicated firepower to shift and will be just spikey enough to make them a threat in close combat. With Fury of the Legion they can potentially pump out 80 bolter shots at a target which will remove virtually any non tank target.
I third this, although Breachers are very cool and more resitant to attempts to remove them (blast and templates that are above AP3 will be re-rolled, making you mathematically harder to shift than terminators in this niche scenario only). If you really like them, I suggest a compromise: 10 breachers for your "home" objective and tacticals for your attack. Each with an apothecary if possible. Finally, if you have the spare points, consider also building in a unit like volkite or flamer tactical support for more weapons as well as scoring troops, though only once you have 2 compulsory troops (as they're a support squad).
How many tacticals do I need per compulsorily squad?
minimum size for tactical squad is 10 dudes, 9 regular bolter bros and a sergeant
Yeah. You can go up to 20 but in smaller games its best to stick to squads of 10 and have 2 - 3 or 2 tac and one tac support.
tyrant siege terminators
These guys will be your best friends with the upcoming changes
They are already for years now. Awesome unit
even more so
How come?
ill dm it to you
actually one sec
In summary, Iron Warriors now have +1 STR versus vehicles, automata and the like. Tyrants gained Flakk missiles with twin linked. So, for a 5 point increase base, they now can shoot Heavy 4 Str...5 i think frag missiles,Heavy 2 Str 9 (versus vehicles and the like) AP 3 Krak Missiles, or Heavy 2 Twin-Linked Skyfire Str....8 I think Flakk Missiles
Theres other changes but you'll have to find the leaks for them because i cant remember
If Warmaster Ironic is looking,he can correct anything I've fked up since the only knowledge of Iron Warriors I have is the royal fisting I've gotten from them
And WS 5 with W2 if that’s new
So basically, one 10 man squad of breachers to protect the back objectives and maybe any artillery I put back there. 20-40 models worth of tacticals (so four boxes, yikes that's a lot), a good heap of Apothecaries (maybe GW will make generic plastic apothecaries?). And I don't know what would be a good number of Tyrant Siege Terminators and how many squads.
I haven't even thought of a praetor or centurion to choose.
did they get a second wound?
hold up, so just to be clear Tyrants are getting the second wound and the other changes for only five points more?
yes
Tyrants are staying as WS4 BS4, they just gained a wound
but yeh the big take home is they're getting twin linked krak, twin linked AA and 4 shot frag missiles (4 bolter shots basically)
and can now intercept for free
all for 5pts increase
The big take home is that all those weapons gain +1S against vehicles, MC, buildings and so forth. Flyers will pop like nothing against S8 flakk
and that too yeah
I think it is a tad weird that IW tacticals have S5 with their boltguns against vehicles.
Machine killers innit
sounds nice, are the Tyrants allowed to take a Sparten/LR as a DT?
I've only got the loyalist and core rules leaks. I would love to see the traitor leaks so I can figure out what to expect and pay for.
