I want to change what I have into a 6K Sons of horus/Ruinstorm demons.
I am not a competitive player, And being brand new, I do not know how to listbuild. Its for a 6K Narrative Crusade to learn the game. Need to make a 6K, that i can pull from to make other smaller lists, but functions as a full army.

6k is a lot of points for learning the game
"Good first experience it's too bad there's no way to make games last less than four days"
Im aware it is. I have a cousion who knows to play thats helping
You'd be at the points where the game is functional and you can bring something cool
6k is quite literally twice the size of your average game
What do you own?
it can be anything. I want to completly change this to go with the list idea

hello im the cousin
we are NOT doing 6k points yet
Were doing a semi/10th crusade thing, where we made 6k rosters and pull units from them to make smaller point armies for smaller point games
working our way up
he owns ZERO models
(heresy models)
we are playing on TTS
cause the other narrative players are out of state
He wants more help than I can provide because hes convinced hes shit at listbuilding from loosing a battle or two
Best I can do is just generic SoH advice
Our legion trait is just kinda there
It's good on some units and does literally nothing on others, it can be nice before CC to fire off a couple bolt pistols tho
Justaerin are really strong
Are reivers worth it?
From firsthand experience, I concur
I've not had experience with them but they serve a niche role as a on foot melee veteran unit
Any idea on how you’d outfit either squad?
Don't spend too much on upgrading all their melee, normally it's recommended to go half n half or less
Justaerin I'm boring and have mine kitted with hammers, a chain fist + MM guy and a lighting claws dude
Bro straight up has a salad bowl
If I was to build out to a 10 man squad id honestly throw a couple cthonian axes in to save points
And be the first guys to die
he likes, legion fliers, but after experiencing tjem he’s kinda got dislusioned
and drop pods seems to be a non starter
The fliers are pretty good this edition
any suggestions for transports?
<<that’s what I said!!!>>
Land raiders, rhinos, drills are all good
i wanted to mix in some demons
Also spamming basic troops is pretty good in SoH because our detatchment gives us two prime troops slots
Like, okay check this out
You'll probably want an esoterist then
His previous list was some reivers and dispoilers in rhinos, Storm eagle deropped Praetor and Justrrian, and drop pod tacticals
and like a dreadnought
he got kinda boned against my master of signals
Despoilers I'm not huge on this edition, but SoH have indcutii which are pretty sickc
OH YEAH INDUCTII RULES EXIST NOW
They're Despoilers but you trade line for vanguard, and can take a LD test to gain +1 S on the charge, and can take free chain axes
Reavers are fun
You just need to give them melee weapon upgrades
Plain chainswords won't really cut it
I plan to try inductii with a dark emissary to make a strong melee blob
They're good to have a couple of to soak up enemy AP3 hits
The justaerin are in a similar state. Melee weapon upgrades are essential
Oh absolutely
@deft wraith this is all good advice and you should be listening two it
But you still give them some melee weapons so that can actually hit things and kill stuff
Oh agreed 1000% they're too expensive to not give some to
Anyways, reavers can't take combat shields. So they're a bit fragile against other melee units
SO
You gotta be hitting first whenever possible
If you want shield reavers take cheiftains
I'm thinking, dual lightning claws
Yeah my reaver sarge has dual claws and I'm gonna, throw a couple axes into the unit
Was debating hammers tho
Maybe like 8 lightning claw dudes and then 2 regular guys
While that will hit hard and smash things quite well. I'm not sure if vets and legion specific vets have the durability to survive using their hammers
I think you really do have to try and play unfair and hit before the enemy does... and avoid enemy termies
Remember enemy units with statues are initiative one
Termies with their free AP 3 weapons and good durability are a bit of a challenge for vets to fight. Even with their superior WS
Assault marines were cool but soo expensive
Absolutely, it's just not something I'd rely on, since statuses have a lot of asterisks attached to them. If they go off, if they don't remove them, etc etc
Money wise they're expensive but in game I look at them as Despoilers with a built in rhino
Oh what else. For justaerin, give them a few hammers. I think 3 hammers in a 5 man squad is a good ratio to go for
So true.
So you think despoilers are no longer worth it?
Ehhh
They can do work
@shut gust @honest thicket may I trust to leave this in your two sets of capable hands?
they did a better job against tanks with kraks than anything else
But you're making them more expensive than tacticals and require more finese to use than tacticaps
lovely lovely ❤️
Maybe ill cheap em out.
Oh yeah that reminds me. I think you could use some more anti tank
Without a doubt
Melee is nice and it can work. But sometimes you gotta use the humble vindicator and throw a S12 small blast at your opponent🙏
Or whatever other anti tank unit you want
Lots of them are good, so it's your preference really
Land raiders ect
Ehhh
Land raiders can work
But they aren't ideal
I'd still invest in some dedicated anti tank
Or at least something with a S10+ weapon
So. Let me think here.. Starting this from scratch. How many tacticals do ya think? two? three?
Three
Cause i enjoy praetor in termi armor as well
Nothing wrong with the mighty termie praetor
LIGNTING CLAWS!
Oh I wouldn't do that for a Praetor
Praetors like to be in challenges, and in challenges you kinda need an AP 2 weapon
Either that or a hammer
hammer is slow damn
The hammer is more consistent, while a paragon blade will hit first
Your preference
but he does have survivability..
ill debate it .
AS far as command.
I want SOME demons. So Esoterist.
What other commands will i need
Centurions are good
And then a third one will depend on what else you want in your army
think i should termi him? I know hes got really good initive.
Ehh depends on the rest of the army
fair enough. ill hold off on that
So.. I need transports for these melee units.
and armour of course.
Maybe an allied demon detachment later
if i can
What do i need to take for armoured transports
Lands raiders
Rhinos
Yeah those two are the main ones
Dreadclaws can also work
What other comand do ya reccomend?
Hm..
Champions are fun
a signals would be nice to have a better drop pod reserve ect
All of them????
Like they all seem decent
Maybe the war engine one is a bit bad, but that's mostly because it's easy to use logistical benefit to get war engine slots
hm..
So.. i need the demon one for my shenanigans..
Then.. lets see.. maybe planatary
you could just ally in daemons normally
Im taking an esoterist for narratyive but will do allied demons yues
How to i add an allied detachment?
Just take one
just not sure where it is in new recruit
oh add force?
On newrecruit go to the bottom of the list and click new force
gotcha
Ya, remember to change faction when the thing pops up before clicking allied detachment
It's pretty unintuitive
i see
Had to log off but here are some thoughts. Recons are... sadly overpriced. You're usually better off getting a scout squad instead. Ruinstorm daemons in general are kinda rough. Not a lot of the army list is particularly good. I'd try to take a sovereign instead of a behemoth. The sovereign is just gonna be a lot more killy and do way more than the behemoth will. Also, when selecting an aetheric dominion all units in that detachment have to be from the same dominion, you can't mix and match
Since the esoterist lets you auto pass reserves rolls for daemons, I think it'd be best to take encroaching ruin so that those daemons can actually deep strike
Also, since you can't really charge from deep strike, I think it'd be a good idea to main use the esoterist to help deep strike scary psykers onto the board
There are also some minor things, like you still didn't give the justaerin hammers and you're missing nuncio voxes on a lot of units. But in general this looks reasonable
you can mix and match so long as the crusade detachment isnt daemons
its pretty stupid
Wait really?
yes
but yeah the behemoth is a waste of points
Ok that changes a bit
I'd still go for encroaching ruin on something like a daemon sovereign. Deep striking a big dumb WS6, T6, W7, 3+/4++ model right into the opponent's face can be quite scary
i would say it depends on the powerlevel they are going for
i think at the average level you shouldnt even ally in a soverign
its a pretty unfair model which kinda breaks the game
brutes are a safer bet
I was not able to take a sovereign because It was an allied detachment
It seems you can only take it (unless new recruit is wrong) if you are primarily playing daemons
you can use the prime trait to take it
its called special assignment or something
Yeah I found out thankfully. I'm readjusting later.
I can't believe my phone won't let me post it
