Getting started with HH, picked up an AoD box combined with a few other items and hand-me-downs. I'm a little worried that I've invested too much into Line, looking for some feedback and general advice.

Your list looks pretty solid, definitely plenty of line to take a seize objectives. I like the lances on your assault squad, but I don't think running axes on the other is going to do you many favors. The only thing they'll want to use those AP2 axes against are likely terminators or dreadnaughts who will smash your boys around either before they can strike, or at the same time as those three.

If you're looking for things that can reliably punch AP2, you certainly can fit a plasma tactical support squad in there somewhere, as I think 2x5 recon squads is probably spending a little more than you need. I don't use Recons myself, I prefer Seekers, so I could be wrong.

Out of curiosity, why do you prefer Seekers over Recons? I was looking at using Recons both as long distance harassing fire as a way to get some more pinning tests on enemy infantry (in the hopes of softening things up with ATfM)

Seekers also get access to Nemesis bolters, and their boltgun profile has a Breach 4+. They hit on 2s with BS5, can infiltrate, and naturally all have precision shots 4+. You can even give them some other options for wargear that are more flavorful than useful (example: you can give all of them melta bombs which I've never seen anyone pull off but the option is there for kicks).

Not to mention they do all that and don't suffer the 4+ SV of scouts. Scouts do get skirmish, just like seekers, but scouts need to make use of turning that 5+ cover save into a 4+ cover save much more often

#

Marked for Death is also a really cool ability, letting you reroll 1s to wound against a designated target.

Scouts snipe pretty well, but if you want a unit to rip sergeants off the board seekers are your guys

#

if you have the points, you also can infiltrate them in a landraider, which can be a fun, if corny, way to shunt a landraider into an advantageous spot on the board

#

in short, for 40 more points at their base cost, you can do anythign you'd do with a scout and then some

you are dipping some serious points into a DT for a unit who doesn't really need one, but if you've got first turn why not infiltrate a landraider for a clean shot at somethings side armor

Thinking it through, more AP2 is probably the way that I should go. Dropping the recon squads would give me just enough points for a 10 man plasma support squad in a rhino, along with power weapons for the jump Apothecaries.

#

Thank you for the breakdown on Seekers, I think that'll be the way that I expand out in the near future (and an excuse to get another land raider)

tawny lava
#

thats the other reason I like seekers, since apart from the strength difference of their weapons, they have just as much a shot at getting a breach as a Plasma gun, plus the added fun of hitting a precision 4+

#

but yea, your list is gonna want some dedicated terminator poppers at range, and plasma will do the trick for sure

#

plus with preysight they're pretty much forced to eat it since they can't shroud

I was wrong on my point count, I wouldn't be able to fit those power weapons on the apothecaries if I wanted Preysight on the support squad. On that note of power weapons, what would you recommend instead of the axes on the assault squad? Lances are really cool but I don't have the bits for more at the moment

One option to save points is just spend 15 in your apothecary detachment and drop it on whoever they’re attaching to

#

Only one model needs to have prey sight so share it around
