Hey guys, I just got into 30k heresy and was trying to work out a list. I do not intend to be insanely cutthroat competitive, but would like some ideas on what would be good. I am not opposed to any suggestions, as I am currently in the planning stage for the army, so nothing is off the table.

I will say I straight up don't know what I'm doing, as I have never played a game of HH yet, so please forgive any immensely wrong points of my list
I cut out all barebones upgrades from the army output, but basically everything that isnt listed has default upgrades

My plan is to have 1 apothecary with the Despoilers, the jump pack Apo with Eidolon and the Palatines, and then the Phoenix Terminators w/ the Phoenix Warden in the Land Raider ride up the middle into wherever i need them. Sunkillers to obviously try to kill any ranged threats, full melee contemptors since I would think we want to melee skew based on our legion rules, and the recon squad/tacs to sit on points.

#

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I start building/buying models so that i don't make a huge mistake

Some things to consider:

  • 3 Line units is cutting it extremely fine. 4 or 5 is more typical at 3K
  • 10 sun killers is a lot, and they're quite expensive. 6-7 is the sweet spot
  • the Spartan with 10 phoenix terminators is a big old target, and might not have the output you're looking for. PTs aren't a damage-dealing hammer unit, they're a roadblock to pin something in place while you manoeuvre a bigger threat around

First off, I would probably split the troops up in smaller squads. 35 despoilers can make 2x10 and a 1x15. You can also do a 2x12 and a 1x11. For the tacticals, I would do 2x10.

#

Leaves more flexibility in holding multiple objectives while also pushing up

oh to clarify the despoilers is a 20 man haha, but i can split them in 2x10

teal horizon
#

Yeah, so for the Phoenix terminators they are just meh by themselves. I would cut them down to a 5 man retinue with a champion, a preator, or Lucias. They are good at forcing your opponent to hit at 6's when charged and chipping away at retinue. I have found hqs being excellent in providing additional damage output

#

Oh wait I missed the warden

main juniper
#

thats perfect since i wasnt that interested in buying 10 anyway

teal horizon
#

But yeah you can plug and play other hqs to see what you like.

#

Overall, it seems like you have a solid foundation. Sarovian has some other good points

#

Seems like you need to build and play. From there you will be able to assess if you want to add/change

main juniper
#

right yeah

#

and just to double check, the bayonets on the tacs are okay or should i try to keep tacs as cheap as possible?

main juniper
teal horizon
#

It kinda depends on your local meta. Bayonets are fine and do help, but I know other people prefer to keep tacticals chea0

main juniper
#

got it

got it

thanks so much!

No problem

For the remaining contemptor, give it a chainfist, and replace the combi-bolters with meltaguns or grav guns

main juniper
#

honestly though i dont really know what to add haha

fleet lake
#

I'd also probably drop the recons. They're good, but they don't really fit with the rest of the list (and they're in the same category as lascannons and dreadnoughts where people will get mad if you spam them)

On top of what's been said, with Maru Skara it's good to have things that are good for the flanking assault. If you're dropping the points for them, Javelins are a solid choice for that, and they can bring a little extra anti-armor with them. I think the Recons are fine, they support your Despoilers in a way nothing else really does here.

#

There are some very cool and kinda janky things you can do with Maru Skara once you're more familiar with the system, but you've got a good base to build off of overall here.

fleet lake
#

if I saw this list I'd just assume the opponent is WAAC because they took all the meta units

shut ginkgo
#

They're not that uncommon in EC lists that I've noticed.

#

You don't really bring a lot of them, but a small squad is pretty normal.

fleet lake
#

they're common in all lists because nemesis bolters are very good

#

doesn't mean they fit

#

like if every white scars player takes contemptors, that doesn't mean contemptors should be in their lists

shut ginkgo
#

They're usually paired with something like Tarvitz who has one natively.

#

But perfection in all forms of warfare, means all forms of warfare.

#

javelins are the premier cavalry unit, skyhunters put out some good damage but they're a lot easier to kill

#

for javelins you want melta + las

#

take them in units of 1 or 3, I wouldn't do 2 in a unit

main juniper
#

sounds good, i like them so i’ll prob fit some in

fleet lake
#

you either want a unit small enough that it's not worth return firing, or a unit that can kill stuff on return fire

shut ginkgo
#

Sky Hunters can be good, but you have to be careful about placement with them. Careful use of terrain and LoS blocking is pretty important. But for MS, they can do some work.

I used to run Seekers just for that reason as well.

Think I’ll be going with this now based on the suggestions @fleet lake @shut ginkgo thank you dudes. I decided keeping 1 squad of recons since I dont think 1 5x recon is too egregious and i’ll cut them if its bad.

#

went down to 6 sun killers for that good ol slaanesh number

fleet lake
#

very nice list

fleet lake
fleet lake
#

then you get line

shut ginkgo
#

You'd need another MotL for that I think. Eidolon is the only character here who could take them as a Retinue. But they are good for that use.

fleet lake
#

oh he has a jump pack

shut ginkgo
#

He can, but he's got a jump pack so mobility becomes a factor. They slow him down, he can't join them in a tank.

#

Yeah

fleet lake
#

probably fine to leave them as-is then

#

with the points spent on another MotL, you could just buy a herald or another line squad

shut ginkgo
#

Yeah, pretty much. The list has a decent amount of line as well.
