timber sun
#

Can I ask why a grav gun AND grav pistol on the support squad?

#

Oh I see cause he's got a power fist instead

open edge
#

What's the game plan here? We'll be able to make better recommendations if we know that.

At the moment you're not getting much from any rite of war and your units are over equipped. Let us know what the plan is and we can give you a steer

hollow moss
#

RAW medusan immortals can't use chain bayonets

#

Gorgons are kinda overpriced and I'm not a fan of them. I feel Indomitus termies are generally better

#

Also it might be worth considering taking a drop pod for your leviathan to help alleviate their slow movement speed

#

Otherwise, I think your somewhat overkitting your troops choices

#

Like, grav pistols are fun and all, but your tactical sergeant really does not need a grav pistol

#

Same with the combi plasma

#

At most I give my sergeants artificier armor

#

Maybe a power axe if I feel like it

#

Oh and why give a tactical support sergeant with a grav gun, a grav pistol. Seems kinda redundant

#

Oh and 99% of the time, power axes are the best melee weapon to give assault squads or other non-elite melee units

#

Oh and lastly, you should really be giving your command squad the land raider not the immortals. Immortals are an anvil unit which you plop on an objective and then have them last the whole game. Without line from COBI, there's very little reason to take them, so I wouldn't bother running them in something like HOTG

open edge
#

Big ones from me are
a) defs don't run immortals unless you're running CoBI
b) land raider with the morlocks
c) cut down on your upgrades. At most your tac squads should be costing 120-130, 165 with a rhino.

You can cut a whole bunch of points from your army by dropping a tonne of upgrades, the immortals and the warmonger. With those points you can have some fun like pumping your Gorgon squad to 10 and putting them in the Spartan from the AoD box.

If you like tanks and HotG, consider some melta cannon predators to outflank

upbeat meadow
#

Dang ok sweet this was all pretty helpful. As for a game plan I don’t really have one since I don’t know how games go outside of the one I played so I kinda just throw stuff together that looked cool. I definitely remember struggling to destroy his land raider and his Termie blob so I was looking for anti tank stuff to take. I’ll cut back on the kits and probably try to remake the list with more of a game plan. Any suggestions for game plans? Lol

#

I don’t think I have a preference on COBI vs HotG is there a better one?

onyx leaf
#

Do you have all these minis already?

upbeat meadow
#

Oh god no lol

#

I’m going to pick up the AoD box and then I have an ass ton of 40K SM I’m going to try to sell/trade for other units I’ll need

#

and then fire up the ol’ printer for the rest

onyx leaf
#

Ok! I would say Head of The Gorgon is more generalist, so you can get different stuff and chuck it in your list and it’ll benefit (stubborn in DZ, outflank vehicles). CoBI is a bit more specialised in that it only affects certain units and will influence your listbuilding more.

upbeat meadow
#

Ok sick that’s good to know

#

I want to run vehicle heavy list back by Termie deathstars and supportive shooting so I guess that’s the over arching game plan?

hollow moss
#

I think if you plan on using the AoD box then a solid core to work with would be 2 big 20 man blobs of tactical marines each with an apothecary attached to them

#

For 3k I like running 3 dreadnoughts

#

3 contemptors each with melta cannon, power fist and grav gun is solid

#

Not sure what to do with the cataphractii though

#

Could build one of them as a command squad (preferably with thunder hammers), get a cataphractii iron father and then plop them in a land raider

#

For the other I've got no clue. Maybe convert into morlocks and swap between morlocks and command squads whenever you want?

#

As for the Spartan, I think something like Indomitus or tartaros terminators would work well

#

Blob of 10, all with thunder hammers. And then attach whatever consul you want to them. I'd go for a chaplain personally

Alright got a new list

Mostly AoD stuff.
I’ve already got a contemptor so that’s why threw in the second one.
Forge father to join the Cataphractii termies in the Land Raider Spartan. More of a death star and a blob I guess.
The 2 20 man tactical blobs to just throw buckets of dice
Iron Father with Morlocks because it seems fun fluffy for IH I don’t know what I’m doing
Then the two predators to just have two cool tanks lol

hollow moss
#

Oh gorgon armor on iron fathers is redundant. Iron father's have a 5+++ built in, so taking gorgon armor is just going to reduce your invulvn save

onyx leaf
#

Looks good to me

hollow moss
#

Also I'd consider a thunder hammers on the iron father and a few less chainfists

onyx leaf
#

From here it would just be optimising

hollow moss
#

Something like one or two in a squad is fine I think

upbeat meadow
onyx leaf
#

Which depends on your meta/opponents etc

hollow moss
#

Oh and also, chainfists on iron fathers and forgelords is also redundant since both come with machinator arrays built in, which work just as well as chainfists

#

So better to take a thunder hammer or power fist instead. Whatever you can fit for the points

hollow moss
#

Since morlocks are in cataphractii armor and it's good to have them match in power armor types

upbeat meadow
#

Oh right ok dope

hollow moss
#

That way, the whole squad will have models with the heavy sub type and thus, you can get the benefits of heavy

upbeat meadow
#

Also would it be silly to use the Iron Father from 40K as my 30k Iron Father?…

hollow moss
#

A thing you generally want to avoid is having only a few models with heavy in a squad, since then you are still slow but you dont get the reroll against blast and template weapons

hollow moss
#

Also the Feirros isn't in any type of terminator armor

upbeat meadow
#

Ya that’s also true

onyx leaf
#

He’s in power armour and is quite primaris-y

upbeat meadow
#

The FW one looks odd but maybe it’s just the website

hollow moss
#

It's a fine model

#

Bit of a pain to paint the head, but it looks quite nice

#

Oh and I forgot, for morlocks you should almost always take volkite chargers since they are free and are quite good

upbeat meadow
#

Ok sweet I’ll swap that out

hollow moss
#

I'm not a big fan of terminator heavy weapons. I find that 1 or 2 heavy weapons isnt enough to be worth the points

onyx leaf
#

Stick a vexilla in your tactical blobs

hollow moss
#

I'd rather take some melee weapons instead

#

Power fists mostly

#

Terminators are more of a melee than a shooty unit

hollow moss
#

Without scanners the list has very few interceptor reactions, and it's good to be prepared for deep strikes

onyx leaf
#

If they’re hanging around their DZ, they’re in danger of running

hollow moss
#

I mean you can always just move the squad so that it's only partially in the deployment zone

onyx leaf
#

It’s also not either/or

hollow moss
#

And stubborn helps to avoid failing a morale test as well

hollow moss
upbeat meadow
#

So I did drop the heavy weapons and added in more powerfists

onyx leaf
upbeat meadow
#

Ok I think I’ve got a solid 3k list and now to just run it with proxies until I get the models built

hollow moss
#

alright, hope you have fun
