Is there a reason that NPC's don't seem to care at all when you enter stealth? Nothing quite as frustrating as using stealth half a dozen times

The TRUE invisibility of stealth lasts for ~1 second and then u become semi transparent. Thats why u may notice that enemys pause for the briefest moment after the key press and then continue to chase. The way u can benefit most from this momentary invisibility is to use stealth AFTER you have broken the physical line of sight (and in some cases extreme distance works too) to break the ais ability to reacquire your location .
Keep in mind once ai go into what i call " temporary awareness state " they seem to re-aggro u sooner and from further away even after u have disengaged properly out of LoS with stealth for a few seconds after.
In short , use stealth once u have broken line of sight . Maintain your distance for a while to ensure u dont get reaggroed from further away.

Enemies can sense you in stealth. They cannot sense you when invis.
