Is there any way to add smart quotes or similar basic typography to Markdoc collections?

I mean to process the content to replace straight quotation marks with curly quotation marks. And similar typography transforms, like -- to em-dash. Otherwise, the output looks unprofessional.

Have you looked into remark/rehype plugins? There must be something in there for you 🙏🏻

Yes, I understand that they do not work with Markdoc. That's why I'm asking.
