rendering arbitrary string as mdx

is it possible to render a string of text using mdx? there's this but it only supports basic markdown: https://github.com/astro-community/md

my use-case: i have content files that specify a list of sections in the front matter each of which has a content text. to use optimised images there i'd have to be able to render with mdx components.
