i loved sf4 but it's a bullshit game

rolento, el fuerte, rufus instant divekicks, sagat, seth

also no input buffer so execution floor was very high

I’m super new to SF so I have no idea what anything before 6 was like

sf4 was a really hard game

not mvc2/3 tier hard but it was very difficult to get good at

i would genuinely consider third strike to be the easier of the two having played both extensively at a decently competitive level

sf4 specifically relied heavily on plinking because of the lack of an input buffer, and there were a ton of weird option selects

if you ever get the chance to get usf4 for very cheap the combo trials are pretty difficult

(i play/played makoto in third strike and makoto/evil ryu in sf4)

this is a pretty great example of the expressiveness in sf4 combos though, there are five different one-frame links in this combo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRY0aMbSZEM

the skill ceiling is infinite

there's a fine line to walk with input buffers. If done right it's barely noticeable. But games like smash Ult feel terrible to me with it's like 60 frame buffer

yeah and that's why a lot of people didn't like sf5 combos, they were highly prescriptive and basically anyone could do all of the optimal combos for every character

in sf4 you had players who had a specific style and approach with their characters and highly optimized combos like that

iirc the tightest links in sf5 were 5 frames

i remember gamerbee early on in sf5's life talking about how he was trying to find his own signature playstyle or way of differentiating himself from the rest of the players and feeling like the game itself just didn't allow for that kind of expressiveness and he was correct, it was a very common refrain among high level players

even characters like juri got kneecapped, she had really cool custom combos in tanden which they did bring back for sf6, but not so in 5, she felt really braindead and boring to play

i genuinely think the most complicated thing i ever learned in sf5 was laura's 5hp meaty overhead reset that makes it hit low and that only took a handful of tries to get right lol

this was fun to hit people with online though

Devs got no idea what they are doing in Tekken it seems like, I heard they ended up removing a lot of individuality from the characters in the latest patch

it just makes no sense, tekken 7 was a relatively well-balanced game especially compared to 6 and tag2 (and even dr if we're being honest) so for 8 to just be this braindead spamfest really confuses the hell out of me

6 in particular was unbelievable levels of broken, lars was by far and away one the top two characters in the game and the easiest to play and in the pro scene basically everyone just played bob

i forget which tournament (probably evo) but there's a tekken 6 bob vs bob grand finals and everyone in the crowd and even the players just look so depressed, there's no hype at all

I’ve stopped playing Smash Ultimate a while ago. It’s years old at this point I had my experience with it

Like I misinput smash attacks 50+ times because you can't disable doing them from the control stick in Ultimate like you can in RoA2

So whenever I tried to tilt or dash attack I would smash

Also the fact that when dashing you have to wait for dash to end to do fsmash/dsmash from it, but in RoA2 you just cancel the dash into the smash attack

It's just so much easier to input the most basic stuff
