So I'm about 13 hours into ZA (at the start of ||The Rust Syndicate|| portion, please no spoilers) and I think my major gripe is that the story is a little all over the place.
Like in SV you had your major goals, you knew where to go and what to do with them from the beginning. Yeah you had little side stories and missions and things popping up here and there but it had an overarching plot.
This story so far seems a little pieced together and a little random at times. Like, "Oh I guess this is what we are doing now??"
I'm enjoying it but its a little hard to pick up and play just because there isn't a real sense of mystery.
Spoilers: ||Yes I know Emma and L and the tower and the company and the green dog pokemon are connected in some way or another. But not quite to the same capacity I feel the crater was in SV||

After the mega is used up you have to refill the mega meter by attacking but yes you can mega evolve multiple times in the battle cafe. They will remove your mega after a battle ends though so you can’t keep a mega through multiple battles
