Players find themself looking at a mountain complex of bug tunnels, and are looking right down one big tunnel, command brings out a hover tank platform with a big laser drill attached to it. Commander mentions they did a deeper scan of this tunnel and it leads to a big location un accessible by other means. And the queen they chasing in there. Squad of Commandos run after the drill as it garberators the arteries like large tunnel boaring machine. And pops out to the otherside. And there's a cinematic of the group just standing there all goop covered and they watch the tank is just falling down a huge canyon. And then there is a conviently a ailen bug mass or structure that can be used to cross the canyon GOW style.

Edit: assuming the existence of the node tunnels. Specifically the ones I was thinking about for large bug traversal, in this case, something large enough for the queen/princess type unit. It's also assuming this is before the multi-player events, and the knowledge to counter the stuff preventing them from just flying in didn't exist yet.

Scratch out the maceration tank thing. The "big tunnel" is now the "giant node" concept. But is spookier than gross. Since now during the player's run through the tunnel a worm node pop out from the side of the inside the tunnel and scares the crap out of the player.
