System (HIP 73184) has an ELW - I think I just tried manually flying with the NUMPAD controls (Cmdr Ninjahat also points out that some people (ex laptops) don't have NUMPADS - so 'traditional' WASD+ Q/E keybinds and / or remapping would make sense) and when I then went to Science / Scanning desk to plot to the likely ELW I had seen in the long range scanner from system previous - I selected the ELW in the Scanner Window - clicked "Send to Helm" (NAV)? [I'll check and correct] - and then went back to Pilot seat - and used the set target - and engaged auto pilot and FTL...Promptly flew directly into star (as shown in image - there is a faint latticework that represents the stars' surface)
#After arriving in system - flew to planet - then flew back to / INSIDE entry star

We don't have collisions in game yet, so you fly through everything ๐
Right - but I flew to - decelerated - and stopped inside center of star...."controlled flight"
But am now not sure if I had clicked 'Scan" or 'Send to Helm' ....
So I was already in system - the main star would still have been 'active' as target from my prior interstellar navigation - and I took control manually to try the NUMPAD flight controls...
So then I selected the ELW from the Science / Scanning console - but did not send to helm - when I requested from Pilot console 'Use Snsr Target' - "logically" it flew me right to my desired location....
So the logical fix would be something like:
THEN helmTarget = SetToNull (Clear)
@proven arrow
Tried to repeat (in same system) - and when I target the star (Sci/Sen Console) from the Stellar Region map - then 'Send to Helm' - when I go to the Pilot Console and 'Use Snsr Target' - it takes me to the star - but stops short / in the anticipated 'orbit' - so that works properly...
Tried on next system - not able to repeat...Maybe I need I need to enter a 'minor body' SOI first? On to Next system....
Not the first person who ended up inside a star
Sounds like this was definitely a bug. The autopilot chooses its approach distance based on the star class, so it might have got itself confused.
And to be clear: it was NOT the "initial arrival" in system....I arrived - messed around with manual flight controls / may/may not have targeted a planet - but I don't think I pressed "Send to Helm" for a planet ....
...So now that I think a bit - I remember being "in" the star - and yet the planet was still designated (sensor target)...
Well scratch that...I have now "arrived"...in a star....
Yep. I think most people have been in a star ๐
Hmm- it still shows me nearly 1,000,000 km from the destination...Could that be an "offset" issue?
Ok folks hang on to your hats....I flew to the 'Sensor Target' (should be the star, right?).....Except now there is NO STAR?!?!? ๐คฃ Let me video this....
Ok - it's chewing on the HD version (ca 15 mins to go) - but here's the YT link:
https://youtu.be/1ALZw8K3OPg
Investigating circumstances leading up to being "inside" star - I then took control and manually piloted to the stars' "sensor target" marker (roughly 1,000,000 km from where the autopilot stopped)...Then when I went to look around - the star was gone!?!?
Keep flying, it should 'pop' into existence ๐
Ok - I just left my ship there - let me try that - I am not sure which direction I flew in from (hence my suggestion for 'Star Trails" - so I could see my last system (or travel logs at least) - but I'll keep the marker in the background - and see at what distance the 'bulb goes off'...
Yaaay! It's back ๐
(eventually) an exit video will be available:

"Just keep flying" - and you'll get back out of the star....
