Which show or movie has got you in a stranglehold that you can only possible break free of by hoisting the burden on others? Share it here!

Guess i'll start:
How to train your dragon

#

One of the greatest animated films of all time

#

Also a fantastic score

I'm sure the majority of people here have seen it but Interstellar remains one of my favorite films of all time.

#

The expanse - hands down the best series of books and TV that I have ever experienced.

real plinth
#

just looked in my movie folder... 558 movies in there now

broken jungle
#

Jesus

real plinth
#

its gone up to 561 since then

real plinth
#

can add to that:
59 live action tv shows
30 cartoon shows
43 anime shows
and 17 documentaries

broken jungle
#

You didn't even have the time to watch 3 movies

#

Bloody nora

real plinth
#

lol, those movie additions were sitting in my downloads folder waiting for conversion and moving into the NAS

#

i run a jellyfin server on my NAS

#

basically a self hosted netflix at this point

#

also...
20 book series
36 comics
and 9 manga

broken jungle
#

Does that happen to come with a hull, sails and a bunch of rough looking people with cutlasses?

real plinth
#

in my defence, i look very much like a pirate

#

long hair, big beard, large diameter rings in both ears

broken jungle
#

I'm not sure that's in your defence

real plinth
#

it'll do

#

my eyepatch broke coz it was shite, i need a new one for my shite eye... and a tricorner hat

broken jungle
#

Just wear an eye patch and shout arrr every now and then, should add to your defence

real plinth
#

the movie collection is far from complete and i still have about 17TB of space on my nas - AND a spare drive slot for another 14TB drive

real plinth
#

my bad theyre 14TB drives

#

3 of them currently

broken jungle
#

No wonder you're sailing the seas with such gusto. You've barely filled your hold

real plinth
#

17.2TB free out of a total 25.4TB

#

one drive is allocated to backup

#

so i can lose 1 entire drive to failure and not lose any data

broken jungle
#

Makes sense

#

I wouldn't want to lose that much either lol

real plinth
#

there are better options than raid 5 tbh, but it'll do for now

broken jungle
#

I have very basic understanding of it but it sounds like for basic stuff like this you don't need much

real plinth
#

ive got torrent files or info hashes for like 98% of all that stuff too so if it DID get obliterated, chances are i could easily redownload it anyway

broken jungle
#

So that's, what, triple secured?

real plinth
#

something like that

#

theres the data, a backup, and backup acquisition files to reacquire most of it should the worst happen

#

oh and those reacquisition files are backed up as well, which is easy coz theyre only 35 or so MB

#

being able to access the jellyfin and kavita servers from anywhere with decent internet is awesome

#

kavita is the books/comics/manga server

broken jungle
#

A lotta systems just to have stuff, surely at that point it's just easier to use a streaming service?

real plinth
#

except the streaming service decides what and when to remove content

#

fuck em

#

i decide

#

and the "systems" are easy to setup and maintain, theyre free (aside from the hardware cost) and im in full control

broken jungle
#

Fair enough

real plinth
#

i used to use evernote for that note stuff but switched to bookstack coz its self hosted

broken jungle
#

I don't really watch stuff as much so I guess I never saw it as a priority

real plinth
#

ive always hoarded video, music, and reading stuff... and my 5TB external HDD required my PC to be on at all times to access it

#

with the NAS i can turn the PC off at any time and still access it all

#

have a firecube attached to the TV downstairs so my Pa can access all the video content too

#

been grabbing some old school movies that he likes to watch to add to the jellyfin server so he dont have to fuck with the hundreds of discs he's recorded over the years

broken jungle
#

I get that

real plinth
#

i forgot to mention the music kekl

#

lots of that also

#

mostly in flac format or 320kbs mp3s

broken jungle
#

Our dvd player likes to eat up discs so we have to use percussive therapy to get them out each time lol

real plinth
#

lol

#

that was another reason for digitising it all

#

converting my flac music collection to opus and tagging it all correctly is going to be a chore

#

will be worth it in the long run though

#

coz then i'll be able to stream all the things to any device i want, even outside my own home network

broken jungle
#

Effort pays off

real plinth
#

and it satisfies the hoarder in me kekl

broken jungle
#

Ah, the most important thing lol

real plinth
#

heh peepoBigSmile

#

theres some great stuff to be hoarded too

#

lol

#

as i said, some cool stuff with not much exposure that streaming services either dont have or drop from their service due to low viewership

#

i HATE when something i like gets dropped coz they decided not to host it anymore and running my own service means i never have to put up with that shit

Has anyone watched Andor season 2 yet? I have two questions after watching 3 episodes:

  1. Why Andor stole the imperial ship?
  2. What's the issue with money of a Mon Mothma's friend that made a Foundation for her shady deeds?

Three Body Problem on netflix is pretty wild. Books even more so. Space/Sci-Fi related
