@earnest lion sorry I’m in class so I could be on discord. As of 3.9 supposedly you can modify rented ships using your mobiglass. but if not, you can in your hangar. Helix 1 is a size 1 mining laser for prospector. Put that on so you can get the high tier ore. Also, through your onboard console you can modify your power settings. Look at one of your monitors by holding F. Click menu>power>items. From there you can overclock your laser, I suggest pressing “p” to disable your weapons(you don’t need them anyways because default weapons for prospy are useless) press overclock your helix mining laser, scroll down to “ping” overclock that (makes you cool down on ping faster) and press power on the gimbal listed just above “ping” as that is your gimbal for the mining laser, once you have done that leave the console. “Tab” is scan mode, “M” is mining mode and while in mining mode press right click to switch between fracture and extract. Also if the rock is outlined in orange it needs to be fractured, purple is ready for extraction. Overcharge is deadly. Any overcharge when fracturing reaches 100% is dangerous. Look online for mining guides

Here are approximate (old) prices for minerals, in aUEC per CU (Prospector has 3200 CU):
Agricium 25
Aluminium 1,44
Beryl 4,23
Bexalite 40,58
Borase 32,58
Copper 5,71
Corundum 2,56
Diamond 6,76
Gold 6,04
Hephaestanite 14,73
Laranite 28,47
Quartz 1,43
Taranite 39,06
Titanium 8,68
Tungsten 3,91

Unobtanium is around 80

Look for heavy and/or mineral reach* rocks.

*for expensive materials (Laranite, Agricium, etc) it'll be above 5%. For mediocre materials (Diamond, Gold, etc) it'll be around 20%. Most expensive material in a rock will always popup first on the scan, so if it's something like Beryl (5aUEC/CU), skip that rock.

Try to pick up chunks with smallest amount of inert materials. Inert materials is worthless "dust" that will fill up your cargo but worth nothing. So it's a wasted cargo space. If scan says that there is 10% Gold and 10% Copper, this means that the rest 80% of that chunk is inert materials.

Agricium and Laranite are the most common out of the high tier ore, also breaks down with the best percentages. Bexalite I’ve always found in low percentages. Quantanium is the most profitable but also the rarest, but every now and then you find clusters, but keep in mind once you mine that quantanium you have a time limit to sell it or you go boom. So avoid low percentages unless yours almost full anyways

Also, you need to watch percentages to avoid as less of inert materials as possible as the are worthless. So the higher the percentage of desired ore the better. I typically won’t take in less than 80%

with certain restrictions, yes

and you can only buyback a ship from your buybacks once every 3 months (give or take due to token distribution) with store credit.

so unless it's offered in the store 24/7 it would be hard

If you melt a ship it will go into your Buyback list. You will receive store credit, and can purchase most ships using said credit so long as they are not labeled as Warbond

bien je vais faire un petit récap du mining car perso il n'y a aucune logique dans le mining actuel, j'aimerais savoir si les développeurs du mining on un minimum de cour de physique sur "l'accumulation d'énergie dans une roche" ? quand on frappe une roche avec un laser elle accumule de l'énergie en continue donc une perte d'énergie de 15% en 3 seconde est illogique, de la difficulté ok mais du "réalisme" serais apprécier aussi car la une roche qui est frapper en continue par un laser pleine puissance qui perd toute l’énergie accumuler en 3 seconde chrono faut que l'on m’explique comment c'est possible, prenez l'exemple d'un rocher sur la plage frapper par le soleil en pleine journée et ça toute la journée, il reste chaud pendant plusieurs heure pour certain après la nuit tomber, donc un rocher qui prend 15 % d'énergie de laser qui perd en gros toute cette chaleur en 3 seconde n'est pas "logique" ni "réaliste" je pense que les devs du mining on fais de grosse boulettes et aujourd'hui passe pour des idiots au yeux de beaucoup de mineurs, pareil pour la résistance des roches qui est totalement aléatoire ce qui n'est pas normal j'arrive parfoit a casser des roche de 4.5 tonnes avec des résistance de 0.45 et une fluctuation de 2.50 mais je n'arrive pas a casser des roches de 3.5 tonnes avec 0.25 de résistance et 1.50 de fluctuation, mais ou est la logique dans cette histoire bref a mon avis le mining est totalement a revoir car totalement incohérent. Après je ne laisse pas ce message pour dénigré le jeu car je le trouve génial et je suis l'un des premiers a le défendre cœurs et âme mais là vous avez fais une grosse boulette de développement pour (de ce que l'on ma dit) du "dynamisme", pour info "dynamisme" et "réalisme" ne vont pas bien ensemble c'est soit l'un soit l'autre mais on peut rarement faire les 2 et pour un jeu qui ce dit "realiste" le "réalisme" vous en êtes loin en ce qui concerne le mining

Hey @mortal linden , yea respawned ship and its all gone, not a big deal. But, I was looking in back of my Drake Cutlass Black, and I don't see any labeling for "Cargo", but it was inside some yellow lines near side door, is that what you meant ?

@jagged lark I tried this a couple of times and the problem is that the cargo despawns rather fast when you're "not looking at it" so you have to be really quick. but the problem is also that not every station buys all the wares you picked up. all in all it's not worth your time.

it will be better later when they've implemented some better version of item caching or whatever the tech is called. atm only mission relevant objects persist properly

it might work better if you work in pairs. e.g. have a buddy watching over the crates while you try to sell them. but that's probably not worth it either

Yeah, Yela is where I mine and I’ve made almost 2 million UEC in a week. I only mine Agricium, Larinite and Quantanium and don’t mine any rocks under 10%. Good luck.

@marsh osprey, once the light starts blinking on the volatile cargo indicator you begin to lose ore, also not every rock is 5k even, give it take a few hundred and the percentages are different ex. 19% quantanium in a 5900 mass rock is more than 19% quantanium in a 5400 mass rock

If your ever lucky enough to find 19% quantanium in an 8k rock, you won’t need to look elsewhere

Voila encore une preuve que le jeu a un problème niveau mining, je trouve un rocher de 4.2 tonnes que j'arrive a casser et sépare les morceau d'agricium (qui est a 20% sur les 4 tonnes) qui sont a 3x 100% mais impossible de les ramasser rien ne va dans les cargos et pire encore ils explose et détruise mon vaisseau (je précise pour les ptit rigolo qui me dirais "tu était sur le laser de fragmentation", non j'étais bien sur le laser de ramassage) donc le mining a vraiment besoin d'être revu par de "vrai" développeurs, je précise aucun minerais dans mes conteneur qui étaient a 0% et aucun consommable

Mined cargo can become unstable if minied with wrong consumables ... not sure if its like that but should be xD

It should happen only when mined material gets in Over Heat that your ship blow up with it at a range under 100 meters ... stay about 200-300 meters from it wile mining .

Here is another proof that the game has a mining level problem, I find a rock of 4.2 tonnes that I manage to break and separate the pieces of agricultural (which is 20% of the 4 tonnes) which are 3x 100% but impossible to pick them up nothing goes in the freighters and even worse they explode and destroy my ship (I say for the little funny who would say "you were on the fragmentation laser", no I was on the pickup laser ) so mining really needs to be reviewed by "real" developers, I specify no minerals in my container which were at 0% and no consumables.

If you plan on upgrading your mining laser at all, I would recommend just skipping all the way from the base Arbor S1 and saving for the Helix which goes for around 90-100K.

Apparently you can swap out rented ship's equipment in the hangar module. no guarantee that it'll stick around after your ship gets claimed for any reason though. And you should probably unequip it the same before your rental period is over

It's not necessarily that there is more money in mining. There is money in mining, sure. There is less risk vs reward in mining with no upfront cost other than the ship/laser upgrades. (unless you are mining quantanium) A lot of people are gravitating to mining because of the severe loss with 30k errors when you've bought your trade stock and lose it all mid-trip.

Yes... get close/scan... put the rock under your nose and go down the first ladder to the "middle" laser to fracture/excavate.

Although many people solo-MOLE, there is no comparison to running it as intended with a crew. It takes a different breed of miner to enjoy the up and down of the MOLE. A lot of people like doing things out-of-the-box and that makes them enjoy the solo aspect of the MOLE. You can make more money with a bad haul with the MOLE vs the prospector because of the sheer size of cargo. If you are picky, you can make a great income with either.

The MOLE just takes more patience and working out-of-the-box.

I don't mean to come across negative. If you can get used to scanning and positioning on the MOLE and using the ladder and middle laser to fracture/excavate and learn to be picky with your choices you can make buckets of money solo in the MOLE. You can do the same in the Prospector if you only mine the top three/four minerals (or the risk of quantanium). Fuel consumptions is an issue with the MOLE (still not ideal even though they adjusted it... it was way worse) compared to the Prospector which sips fuel. If you get used to the ladder dance on the MOLE, it is a great ship for making money. Respectively, the Prospector is still easier to maneuver/reposition than the MOLE and some argue that makes it faster to make money just with more trips. Regardless of ship, you really must the the Helix head to see major improvements in money.

i have run the prospector and mole and i recommend the mole for solo mining if you can afford the ship...it takes a bit of practice but when you learn to position, you can mine a group of 3 or more rocks without going out of the laser, and from cockpit to laser i need like 5sec, to get back you need a lil bit more 6-8sec...it has almost 3x more cargo vs prospector, so you dont need to go back that much and it is much more forgiving, with a good crew, you dont need consumables to mine quantainium

...finally found 1 rock on the scanner...fly up to it and it doesn't register as a minable rock. Fly away...scanner picks it up again.

having 3 miners seems a bit inefficient on the helix rn though - would be nice if there were larger radars or scouting drones to find veins more quickly

I've gotten better at spotting the ores without scanning them but the time to find an ore doesn't reduce with more miners

Top mining tips:

Get best mining shit (helix drill esp)
Get good at quickly finding rocks on your preferred moon or w/e - engines will help here too
Be picky about what you mine. I only mine rocks that have >100 agricium or >75 laranite or >50 quantanium (more if I'm at the end of a run)

two of my best runs have had way more quantainium that I thought they would
it maybe be random or maybe it's connected to the way the rocks break up ... or maybe it's when you start sucking in the rocks without having scanned the other materials yet - as I oftentimes do

You can do Yela without your scanner though. The mineable rocks render farther out than the non mineable rocks. Plus The rocks stick out like a sore thumb in the snow.

I like to get up to 600-1000M above the surface and just cruise at about 300-400 in decouple mode to save fuel. I won’t stop my momentum for anything less than a group of three rocks.

yeah, more cargo space is great, but you do have to leave the pilot seat and climb down a ladder directly behind it to operate the middle mining laser. worth it for the extra space when solo, but undoubtedly more efficient w/ a crew of at least 2. time is money w/ all of the 30Ks going on

I’ve found trade terminals a bit absent today. No supplies available more than once.

Quantities aren’t such an issue for me as my cash balance is low. Quite literally just getting started.

Take a rock. Make 10 or so variations of it. Then make copies of said rocks, but split/cut these copies into smaller rocks. Repeat for these smaller rocks.
Then make original rocks disappear and their cut copy to apear on their place when you brake them. Repeat for smaller rocks.

There is no need to make them precidural. It'll just add more useless load to the server. Even with just 10 unique rocks you can make every rick look unique, by adding rotation and size randomisation.

I may be wrong, tho, and every rock may be in fact precidurally generated and cut on the fly. And chances for that to be the case are MUCH higher with SC whan with any other game.
