Long-long time ago (almost 2 months ago) I made a bug report (#1469666997615853638 message) which was basically about the fact that pretty much any player could possibly land on the water at very high speed but couldn't land on the land in even slightly better conditions (with regard to vertical speed).

Whilst not being identified as a bug one of the devs pointed out that it may be a suggestion for water physics update.

So here I am, offering to basically "nerf" the water in terms of its current landing capabilities.
Why?
There is at least one main reason - current water physics make it easier to land on water rather than land. IRL, in fact, landing on water is on some occasions times difficult (especially if we talk about the planes not intended for water landings, as in example) than on land.

In my opinion if the water will be updated in such way it will:

  1. Encourage players to maintain planes better and fly less recklessly in general (in order to avoid emergencies).
  2. Encourage players to generally land at the airports and prevent unnecessary teleportation to original spawn which happens in case of most water landings.
  3. Make game more realistic in a way of water landings.

well if its an emergency its not really avoidable is it

I mean, if you fly over continets you are pretty much safe from water, even in some parts of map (not all of them however) there are airports "in between" huge chunks of land that may be used as emergency landing places

#

+pretty much emergencies are avoidable (preventable) since Aeronautica doesn't have random failures (at least for now), so keeping plane in nice condition is sufficient

darwinism update

Can see the thought process behind it but seaplanes would probably get a lot less use as a byproduct 😔

Water is a challenge right now too, you never know when it's just going to dunk you and drown you for no reason upon landing

I cannot support this as a seaplane enjoyer sorry, people who grind will lawn dart and sully as they want no matter how much you nerf it. This just screws over people who want to roleplay/sim

sir this is a roblox flight simulator

Don't think that seaplanes will be affected that much since they are usually much slower and more resilient than regular aircraft (apart of F2Y1 Sea Dart and P6M-2 Sea Master if u gonna land them at like 500+ knots).

Main idea behind the update is to rather make interaction between water as environment and non-water aircraft more realistic and difficult rather than punch flying boats and amphibians "by association" and nerfing amphibians

Personally myself I don't understand how it will "screw over" people who want to roleplay/sim since in my opinion remade water will act in more realistic way and will be even better addition to sim and roleplay than it is now. Like right now it is much easier to land on water than on land and it also doesn't make any sense at all that people can almost effortlessly (tested it a lot of times on many airliners, fighter jates) land on water with pretty much no-water aircraft (apart of helicopters).

As I mentioned before, this update is simply not about interaction between amphibians, flying boats etc. etc. with water but rather more about non-water vehicles and their water landings

But all the same any change intended to making water landings more difficult will make seaplanes much less accessible. High engined flying boats like the 314 etc are less susceptible but a/p like the Icon A5 are notoriously difficult to water land without flooding its engines. Even if you do everything right and land at like 75fpm sometimes you just clip through the water and get Sully'd too. Making water physics more "difficult" will just screw over seaplane players

I feel like landing in water with non-amphibious or not landing near an airfield should count as "emergency landing" or something like that with some sort of punishment

#

it makes no sense how there's no punishment for landing a fighter jet into the middle of the ocean with no punishment at all
