The ERCO Ercoupe is a light, twin-tail single-piston aircraft, designed by Fred Weick and built by the Engineering and Research COrporation (ERCO). It was designed to be a very affordable and safe aircraft* with simple controls, basically a "car of the skies". It has been used for many roles since it first began production, such as recreational flying, observation, aerobatics, and even as a target drone. The Ercoupe's simple design has led to it being modified in many interesting ways, some notable examples being the "Twin Ercoupe", the first aircraft in the United States to utilize Rocket-Assisted Takeoff (RATO), a floatplane version (see below), and even a roadable aircraft (the Bryan Autoplane) Today, many Ercoupe still operate in civilian hands, still being used for their intended purpose of recreational flying.

-# *The Ercoupe was designed by Weick to be impossible to stall or spin, and this proved successful as it became the first aircraft certified by the CAA as "characteristically incapable of spinning".
