The Vought V-1100 was a prototype fighter developed in the early 1970s for the U.S. Air Force’s Lightweight Fighter program. It featured a single Pratt & Whitney F100 turbofan engine delivering around 23,830 pounds of thrust, a top speed close to Mach 2.0, a service ceiling above 50,000 feet, and a combat radius of about 460 miles (740 km). With redesigned wings and an extended rear fuselage for better maneuverability and pilot visibility, it weighed approximately 18,000 pounds empty and had a maximum takeoff weight near 27,000 pounds. Despite its innovations, it finished second-to-last in the competition, losing out to the YF-16 and YF-17, which later became the F-16 Fighting Falcon and F/A-18 Hornet.
