The Lockheed CL-1200 Lancer, a high-performance derivative of the F-104 Starfighter proposed in the late 1960s, was 47.5 ft (14.5 m) long, had a wingspan of 26.4 ft (8.05 m), and stood 14.9 ft (4.54 m) tall. It had a maximum takeoff weight of 32,000 lb (14,515 kg) and was powered by a General Electric J79-GE-19 turbojet engine producing 17,900 lbf (79.6 kN) with afterburner. The aircraft could reach an estimated top speed of Mach 2.2 (1,452 mph or 2,336 km/h), had a service ceiling of 60,000 ft (18,300 m), and a combat radius of about 500 miles (805 km). It was equipped with an M61 Vulcan 20 mm rotary cannon and could carry up to 10,000 lb (4,500 kg) of ordnance on seven hardpoints. Despite its impressive specs designed to modernize the F-104 for export under the F-104S replacement program, it lost to competitors like the Northrop F-5 and never entered production.
