Amphibious Utility

The SGAU S-400 “Kapitan” was a light utility flying boat constructed in Russia in 1998.

While little is known about the original 1998 version, The S-400 raised the bar for light flying boats when it saw a large tech overhaul in 2002. The craft received twin Rotax 912ULS engines, satellite navigation, and plushly-trimmed adjustable seats. The Mid-plane wing coupled with twin steering controls and twin pusher propellers exhibited excellent handling characteristics.

Pilots praised the S-400 for it’s flight characteristics and amenities, but unfortunately one of said pilots was the root of the aircraft’/ downfall. In 2012, the sole S-400 Kapitan was irreparably damaged in a crash primarily caused by it’s disoriented and intoxicated pilot.
