Shrugbot Seaplane Suggestion #88

Flying Boat

The Rohrbach Ro X Romar was a flying boat constructed in 1928

Primarily being built for the then-emerging field of passenger transportation, the Ro X was was a very large aircraft for its time. It featured spacious passenger cabins, which could accommodate a dozen of passengers in relative confort. In order to support the sheer weight of the plane, a large, strongly reinforced monoplane wing needed to be implemented in the design, with 3 BMW V12-Driven pusher propellers mounted in the center to haul the behemoth into the air.

Ultimately, 4 aircraft were built - with 3 serving with Deutsche Luft Hansa, and the other one being supplied to the French navy.

Oh shit this was the one that made a brief cameo in porco rosso

I always thought it was just another funky savoia

After the fight between porco and curtis methinks

#

It was very brief and I could be wrong

#

But there was a 3 engine seaplane present very briefly

When they were alerted that the italian airforce was coming

Literally last 5 to 10 minites of the movie

Don’t we already have this or something similar

No?

#

If anything this is more similar to the savoia s.66

#

In any case this is cooler because it's sleeker.

#

the engines aren’t even the same configuration

#

the only similarity is that they’re both German and flying boats

main fern
#

Yeah lol, the only thing even remotely resembling the Do X is the fact the engines are on top, and as Life pointed out it isn't even the right config

#

The bow is sharper, there's only three engines (one prop each, Do X has two), the cockpit is more DC-7 shaped, tail is incomparably more simplified, wings slightly angle upwards and are sharper by the ends, and is has lil floats instead of 314 Clipper-styled paddle things

#

and way less capacity too

main fern
#

Even at a glance, the size difference is obvious as hell, if a different length is enough for 787s then an entire scale difference is enough

tall geyser

#

Even the general fuselage doesn't match, its a box while the Do X is more curved

#

(We're getting planes who's only difference is length and people are complaining about planes like this being too "similar" smh)

#

The name and aircraft type are really the only meaningful similarities

#

Wait bru I completely forgot what the Do X is then; Yes we do have something exactly like this but I was wrong about the name of the plane, and thought it was the Do X when it wasn’t.. Hold on I need to go to my hangar and figure it out or see if I even have it anymore.

#

It’s prob basically something similar to this but on a smaller scale or idk

#

Just gimme a bit to find it.

I think it was marchetti cause that was the one I think had pusher props like this one

S.66 is a twin hull design

It still has an only pusher prop design :p
