Armstrong Seadrome

A concept for a floating runway. Proposals were made to have these line up throughout the Atlantic. Mock-ups were built, however, the projects never really took off. A similar concept has been developed in the 1990s of a offshore mobile base, but as with the Armstrong Seadrome, the idea hasn’t been built.

So for context, there is a book called Flowers for Algernon and Charlie is the main character. So he’s really dumb and he gets an operation done on his brain to become very intelligent. This works, however, it is only temporary. So his mind is rapidly dying so he needs to race the clock in order to create a document explaining the process of the surgery and how said surgery could be improved on. He also talks about the rapidly declining brain durning this report.

I actually think having this as a new airport in one of the empty areas of ocean could be pretty cool. Could be set up in lore as some kind of oceanic research facility or something.

to the point where they are actuallt a different class of aircraft and not just a flying boat with very low max altitude
