VTOL Airliner

The Vertiliner was a project for a VTOL passenger transport developed by Convair, undertaken with the goal of creating an airliner that would benefit from vertical-take-off.

Unfortunately, the aircraft would’ve ended up sacrificing capacity, speed, and range due to the extra amenities demanded for the VTOL systems. Due to these inefficiencies, the project was cancelled.

Same way as the HS.141, but mounted in pods like that F-104 VTOL instead of connected to the fuselage
