#F-22 Features

You realize the tailhook is not for carrier landings right
Also the F-22 already does PTS
The F-22A's tailhook is designed for a runway arrestor cable thing that is honestly closer in nature to the arresting nets on carriers, albeit the less-emergent nature
it is not compatible for arrestor wires present on carriers
and if you attempted to use it you would likely cause structural damage to the airframe
if a 22 wanted to land on a carrier, it would either be told to do a Sully (water landing), or to slow down as much as possible and crash-land into the arrestor net
F-16 Fighting Falcons and assigned to the 36th Fighter Squadron use the alternate landing strip (ALS) during a training sortie at Osan Air Base.
The ALS serves as a back-up air strip allowing aircraft to take off and land in the event of the main runway sustaining heavy damage. This reallocation of flightline space ensures that aircraft can ta...
An F-15 made an emergency landing Wednesday at PDX.
The F-15 and F-16 both possess similar equipment for the same purpose. Runway arrestor cables are significantly more "gentle" than arrestor wires found on carriers.
In fairness the Gripen is the same, its tailhook exists for emergencies but the plane in aero can land on carriers
i feel like thats so it gives players more ways to access the carrier and its aircraft
you cant really say that for the F22 as its less accessible compared to the gripen
But then whats the point of saying "nah this plane cant have carrier tailhooks because irl it doesnt do that"
i feel like its more nuanced than simply reflecting what exists irl; as in there can be more reasons as to why it cant land on carriers ingame
it can also be argued that the gripen has stronger landing gear compared to the raptor as it was designed to land on roads/shorter runways
whether that can actually translate to being able to land on a carrier? i wouldnt know
I doubt it, since the Su-27 can land on roads as the UAF did it but the Su-33 has beefed up gear
the silly
I mean there’s the su27K that’s carrier capable- strengthened airframe and hook
Even then most fighters in game can land on carriers with or without hook as the air brakes are quite strong
Arguably an error, or they could make this
which is effectively an unmanned Gripen E upgraded/modified for carrier ops
whereas the NATF program uh
let's just say the NATF versions of the 22 and 23 look nothing like their air force counterparts
do ppl hate helis that much
ok nvm apparently Saab has a literal brochure for his ass
and he really doesnt look that different from regular Gripen
LHS is natf, RHS is atf
True.
You do realise that pts = air strikes
Right
You’re striking a target from the air
Go to norman
All the airstrikes are done from Norman, scroll all the way to the bottom of the job list there
Honestly though imagine being able to call ATC at specific AFBs to haul out the arrestor cable device when your F-16 or F-22 has to make a landing while at like, 12% durability or 1 engine lost
If you checked the aircraft database it literally says it does
Though it's only available at one location
That’s because Brazil has Naval version iirc
I figured it out
They wanted one
But then they scrapped their carrier
They were the whole reason why the carrier version was even a thought though yes.
secretly a seagripen
Both NATFs are coming into Aero eventually
Well that's wonderful news; but shouldnt that imply that the 22A's arrestor hook will be removed?
Once both NATFs get added ofc
It doesn’t have one to begin with
At least not functional
Ingame it does though
Most likely
Cuz F-22 wasn’t never supposed to be carrier capable
Hence landing there
Well it can land there, but only once
The structural integrity and ram coating damage prolly means if it uses the arresting net method, it ain't never gonna sortie until they go home
imagine using the AI overview as a source
something notorious for saying literal garbage
?
Oh you mean thread owner
Yep
Which is stated
yeah
That’s only how OP perceived that info matters
Wait HUH
F-21 real
It’s just NATF-22
And NATF-23 respectively
Both I found mock-ups of
Oh so no swing wing stealth fighter
Yea
F-21 is Jewish
iirc its literally just a Kfir
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAI_Kfir#United_States
Peak source ik
isn't the NATF-22 variable geometry though?
I know the NATF-23 isn't (though that has canards)
Ok so I checked and the only "odd" ones out are the MiG 1.42 (you need 1.42K to do carrier landing and the game definitely differentiates between variants, else F-35A and B and MiG-29A would get tailhook too)
And Eurofighter Navalized is supposed to be a specific variant, just like the aforementioned Gripen Maritime, no?
Also, no Su-57 as of now has a tailhook for carrier ops, the Shtorm model with the 2 squadrons of Felons sitting on it is just Putin's wet dream
At least both Gripen Maritime and Eupa Naval aren't just paper
Saab has a brochure and pretty sure Naval Eupa actually exists, although considered suboptimal to other carier-capable jets
Neither were built or tested
Cause its for emergencies
It's mostly a matter of there only being like 6 bases that have F-22s, 7 ever so it's a lot harder to see it happen compared to the aircraft like the 15 and 16 which are all over the place
Also the fact they limited production to 188
I don’t think they usually want to use that often as it prob stresses out the airframe
They would rather use more of the runway plus brakes/ air brakes
Apparently f22s had 9 incidents in 2023, 6 in flight, one of them a bird strike, haven’t found mention of tail hooks being used even in an emergency landing
Generally it'd be a hydraulics malfunction or failure. Anything else it'll land normally
