Did a quick try at cutting the outer ring into a single segment (32x radial symmetry). Then linked (alt-d AKA duplicate linked) the remaining object 31x more times (with 11.25d rotation per new segment). This gives a full ring at a fraction of the cost (uncompressed file on disk is ~90MB vs. ~294MB). You can see from the screenshot the geo is down to 103K triangles vs. 3.25M triangles.

Left the inner land geo alone of course repeating that would not be useful.

Exactly. Rendering repeats the same data in memory 32x vs. "unique" geo where the engine has to assume the geo is not repeated etc.

Yeah I did alt-d on the isolated segment then for each duplicate typed segment_number * 11.25 in the rotation x field for the item.
