#duplicate emote issue

i have made an emote 12 months ago. and when i search it up in the emotes section, i find another version of my emote which was uploaded 10 months ago and wider. it is clear that it is a duplicate of mine. i reported this person's emote several times but nothing was done in regards. i can provide links to these emotes if needed. i didn't want to share it anyway since i'm new to this server and i don't know if it would be appropriate.

it just demotivates me to know there is someone that stole my emote. is this allowed?

if it was edited in ANY way, then we treat it as a different emote

#

it has to be 1:1 copy to be merged

#

you can link these emotes here

keen eagle
#

yeah these are 2 different emotes

#

it wouldn't make sense to merge them

#

some people would prefer to use the wide one

I see what you mean, but 7tv is an emote platform where users find every variation different from each other. Someone might find the wide version funnier, someone might want a smaller version etc

#

I'll ask if we can transfer this wide emote to you since I'm not sure ApuThink (nope)

#

tbh, your emote is a variant of "Ta" emote, which I don't think is made by you neither

from an emoter's perpective, this is a direct plagiarism. and you guys seem to be okay with it. i put effort into making an emote to this site and the meme, someone used my emote and made it wider and everbody is okay with that?

I wouldn't say that's a plagiarism, they didn't take your emote and reupload it. They did modify it and upload their own version of your emote.
This is more of an issue with the website itself, you currently can't credit someone for an emote. Which I think is planned in a form of "Emote Attributions" but can't say for sure.

#

and what do you expect us to do with these 2 - merging them makes no sense since they're different. Removing it would make users of these emotes unhappy and transferring this emote to you wouldn't be fair for the person which edited it

#

Uploaders just lack an option to credit someone for an emote, which I believe is planned

#

i get it from the user' perpective and i'm ready to provide what is needed. i'm just an emoter and want to take the credit for the work that i put hours. that's all

keen eagle
#

I see your point and agree you should be credited for that, but website currently lacks an option to do that feelsd

#

not much we can do

#

he still did that, we can say the same about most of christmas variants (which most of them just put a santa hat on it and call it a day)

jagged verge
#

let's say if i publish a wide version of my emote, will his emote be merged into mine?

keen eagle
#

I don't think so

jagged verge
#

why?

keen eagle
#

honestly, because he made it first but also I don't think they would be 1:1

#

so they wouldn't be merged either way

jagged verge
#

but in this case, it is just so funny to me.

jagged verge
#

does this kind of duplication issues happen a lot or is it just me.

keen eagle
#

a lot of people make wide variants of emotes

#

but I don't think a lot of them gets reported for that

#

I'm still a pretty new mod, so can't really say what happened previously

jagged verge
#

guess im the only one that this aproach doesnt suit with

idk feelsd I'm not even sure if it'll go live

I just remember it was supposed to be a thing
