well there were some outages in the past but I don't think they lasted that long

This must be a really really bad outage, something in the servers is crashing or whatever.
Typically when outages last this long, its due to a catastrophic error in one or more places, often times due to man-made mistakes.
Do we even know what is causing the outage currently?
