Our roadmap to the new website and API v4

Where we are now

We've been working a lot on the new 7TV website and API in the background and we're excited to share our roadmap with you. For those who don't know yet, we're currently in the process of rewriting 7TV from scratch. This will allow us to release new features more easily, respond to feedback and feature suggestions and make the website more stable and faster in general.

You can follow our progress in our monorepo on GitHub.

Introducing the new API implementation

The first step in migrating to our new system will be rewriting our old v3 API. The goal is to make the new implementation completely backwards compatible with the current API while also making it operate on our new data model. After the API is released, the current website should work just like before, but with the rewritten API running in the background. This change will fix a lot of bugs and improve performance especially when searching for emotes and users.

API v4 and the new website

After successfully deploying the rewritten v3 API, we're planning to design a new API version (v4) together with our developer community. This will be the most feature complete version we ever had and we're planning to implement things like:

  • Redesigned search
  • Redesigned emote sets
  • Metrics
  • And much more...

Our final goal is to release the new and completely redesigned website to make use of the new API and give 7TV a fresh look.
