Commands:

pointing:
at enemy (if enemy is close AI attacks, otherwise waits for commands)
at incoming bullets (get behind cover)

waving forward (come here motion makes AI follow)
waving attack, like "karate" the air with your hand (AI attacks enemy)

closed fist above head (stop/ hold your ground)

regroup (circular motion makes AI come to the player and abort attacks)

finger against lips (stealth: look for cover when advancing and walk slowly)

Let’s not leave everything up to devs, we can’t code but we can think no?

There's most likely an AI factor like "target/attack player" that if set to true could also be used for the ally to detect THAT state and activate their own targeting

#

And also probably NPCs that just target all "living" NPCs

Now specific behaviors like providing ammo or supplies to the player might be slightly more complicated, not to even mention stuff like coordinated actions like breach and flashbang (is it obvious I play Ready or Not? Lol)
The latter almost certainly requires specific inputs (like this suggestion... Suggests) to perform well, or else rely on random AI decisionmaking that will probably result in your own death
