I finished my reread!
it is a beloved book from 10 years ago, so its pretty butchered. the corner pages are folded up, there are pen marks because i brought them to school, and it kinda shaped my junior high school persona too. reading it again feels sooo comfy and evokes so many good memories
what’s the book? if you’re comfortable sharing
Done with #1372199578308317256 and almost through #1387859781716414717!! This readathon was such a success for me to get back on track (by a little, I still need to get through 3 more books before the end of the month
)
its an indonesian book from a local author, the title is Omen. which is a YA thriller
I did it
i keep adding this to my 'next up' pile and then keep putting it off, i should've read it before committing to something so large as A Song of Ice and Fire 😭

show & tell
the show & tell readathon will go on from the 1__st to 8th of august in your own timezone__s.
there are no checklists or prompts to be earned during this readathon, but if you want to earn the <@&1399390413324025896> role, all you need to do is this:
send in your thoughts and opinions about ONE book that you started and finished during the readathon duration—like a show & tell! you can do this with however many books, make cute graphics/collages about the book(s), or do it in whatever way you want! all you need for the role is to do it with ONE book.
◟ to still follow obc rules, please make sure the book that you're showing and telling is not an adult book and keep your show and tell session safe for work!
lo-fi reading sessions
i will also do some lo-fi reading sessions in lounge vc! they'll probably run for an hour each and we'll do some reading and maybe some chatting in the chatbox (mic-off sessions, sorry!). let me know if you want to be pinged for them and i'll ping you an hour before the session. i will most likely hold them around these times <t:1754143200:t> - <t:1754071200:t> if enough people express interest.
hope you all have fun & i can't wait to be showed and told! lol
i showed and told!

okay, i'm here with my show and tell. i'm kind of burning out with designing stuff so enjoy this really simple design lol.
my show & tell today will be on...
the thirteen ghosts by creepella von cacklefur
growing up i loved anything that had the stilton name slapped onto the cover, and sometimes when i felt less like a scaredy cat, child jana would reach for creepella von cacklefur books. i really liked this one—the gothic, spooky vibes were there (most of the books i‘ve been reading lately are romance and i have been craving a darker atmosphere without really being scared)—and this was overall just such a fun, short spooky read, and the illustrations had SO much detail too? like everything was ghostly, or had a mummy design, the world immersion was just there.
i have to hold myself back now from spending more money on creepella books until next month, that's going to be torture lol. but yeah this is it from me!
I do not have many thoughts for the book I just read to do a show & tell but we have a couple days on this Readathon and I'm hoping another book can inspire something more out of me?
Finished #1382265992801161306 and will be starting #1380454737186656368 next!
i finished atmosphere!!
I've read 3 so far! Will probably include an overview later today for the first 3 days. 😊
For the show & tell:
The Crucible
I had never read this one before and the buddy read game me the kick I needed to do so.
I found it to be an interesting read that really took you into the events of witch trials in the late 1600s. While I have read a few books that hit on this topic in various ways, this is the only one that has really had me quite frustrated and angry. I know there is absolutely nothing to be done about the events, but it was a harder read than I had anticipated because of it.
okay lemme update my GR so I can post what I've read so far for the readathon
i know theres a crafting session tonight, let me know if anyone is still interested in a lofi reading sesh
I'm down for a reading sesh.
i just got mcdonalds LOL so i'll see when i'm free but i definitely have time tonight
i finished another not SFW book... i really gotta find one that will qualify for this readathon lol
I'd be down for one too! I'm enjoying this weekend soooo much like it feels like the first time in MONTHS where I've had some time to just exist and read and not get roped into some plans
oh babe im so happy for you!! i'll ping soon

Would anyone be interested if I add a history lesson to my show and tell of the crucible?
Yes
yes!!
I got through some on my exercise bike yesterday
it makes the time go by so much faster
@potent obsidian Can I send mine as a pdf? Since the history part is quite gruesome.
er how gruesome is it? we still need to keep the show and tell sfw
I could do it seperately
no, everything that you send in must be sfw
I will check
we still need to follow obc rules, and the readathons thread is not an age-locked thread
if you're doubtful please send in a @idle mesa so we can check it out
I can do that?
I learn something new everyday.

Welcome to my Show and Tell of Case Closed/Detective Conan!
It is a Shonen manga series that started in 1994 and is still going strong.
Our main character, Shinichi Kudo, is a 17-year old highschooler living in Tokyo. He is a detective, very smart, and a crime-solving nerd.
One day, after a trip to an amusement park with his friend/sweetheart Ran Mori, he notices two nefarious guys committing a crime. Too bad he gets noticed, too - they overwhelm him and poison him.
This poison was meant to kill him, but there is a rare side effect to this poison: Some people who take it get turned into children. And this is what happens to our hero.
So now, he is in the body of a six-year-old (please dont ask what happened to the rest of his body mass, we are not here for a physics lesson!).
He moves in with Ran and her no-good father/professional detective Kogoro Mori, and tries to uncover the identity of the two men who poisoned him. He uses a new name - Conan Edogawa - and has to go to primary school again.
At least this is the main story, pretty soon we get a lot of episodic cases which revolve around Conan solving cases, but he can not show his true identity to anyone, our of fear of endangering the people around him.
The series still has not uncovered the main mystery in 30 years, and being a fan of this can be a little hard at times because it is such a longburn. SO long. Both for the main mystery and for the various love stories that unfold during the course of the series.
This has also been turned into a successful anime, with a lot of movies and even more filler episodes than the manga already has.
Still - I hold it dear to my heart, and I remember finding these books in the library as a child. It felt a little forbidden because there was some comic violence in them, the cases Conan solves often revolve around a murder.
If you want to try it out, and only want to read one case, I would recommend #18, the "Moonlight Sonata Case". This is regarded as one of the best there is, and it gets pretty emotional.
Overall: I have been bingereading this again during the last few days, I am sure there is a lot of nostalgia speaking out of me, the series has its problems (especially in the portrayal of its female characters in the beginning...), but I will probably still read on again.
And maybe I will see the end of the series in my life time. Here's to hope!
STOP I LOVE IT

Betty
-# a novel by Tiffany McDaniel
You give me a wall,
And I'll give you a hole.
You give me a window,
And I'll give you a break.
You give me water,
And I'll give you blood.
—Betty
Betty was born on February 12, 1954 in Ozark, Arkansas to a Cherokee father and a white mother. Betty is written by her own daughter, Tiffany McDaniel, and is a semi-fictional novel woven from stories Betty would tell her daughter growing up. McDaniel's writing is both emotionally raw and lyrical, and it tells us a story of a young girl born too dark for small towns and with an ear for catching stories that would have otherwise been forgotten. McDaniel tells us: "This is the story my mother never got to tell."
“Don’t let it happen to you, Betty. Don’t ever be afraid to be yourself. You don’t wanna live so long only to realize, you ain’t lived at all.”
Set primarily in Ohio in the 1960s, Betty's life is a product of its time. Subject to racism, sexism, and generational poverty, Betty's childhood was scratched out of the earth by her father's own hands.
Women in this age were expected to be housewives, to stay behind the scenes, and to marry young. Contrary to this, Cherokee society was largely matrilineal. Women held significant power, and although Betty's father Landon was not immediately connected to his tribe during the story, we still see its influence in the way he raised his children—his daughters—to hold that same power for themselves. Men hunted, but it was women who grew from the earth.
“The first woman was given antlers on her head to branch her power out into the world,” he said, digging the rake in deeper. "[...] all spineless creatures are frightened of a woman’s power.”
While this is Betty's story, it also casts a sharp eye on the way women are treated in this era. How their experiences shape them, and how it can be easy to succumb to silence. Similarly, how speaking up can require great strength, especially when it's time to speak up for another.
This is by no means an easy read. This family, its women, experience hardship after hardship. But the strength and willingness to persevere, stubborn and determined to push out a life for oneself, is what defines not just Betty but those around her.
“I could either abandon the doubts I beheld and be free, or else dwell in the eye of the prejudiced, to be chained there. There are too many enemies in life to be one of yourself.”
For me, I found this to be a five-star rating. It took me several days longer than expected to finish, simply because it was a heavy read. There is great grief in being an indian, a feeling which is shared throughout many tribes. My family's story is similarly full of loss and hurt, and for that reason alone this was a challenge to conquer. However, there is comfort in community and that is what makes a story like Betty worth reading. Not just for natives, but for anyone whose life has been shaped by society's unkindness towards the feminine.

Cherokee fun facts:
- They had seven clans: Long Hair, Blue, Wolf, Wild Potato, Deer, Bird, and Paint. Clans were like an immediate family; it was forbidden to marry within the clan. Each clan had different strengths and things they were known for, and some even had subdivisions within the clan.
- The Cherokee had a written newspaper thanks to a scholar named Sequoyah who created the Cherokee written language. The language uses a syllabary wherein each of the 85 symbols represented a syllable. This led to a rapid growth of literacy among the Cherokee people. The syllabary is still used today!
- As mentioned above, Cherokee society is matrilineal. Clan status was determined by the mother, and for awhile you could not be considered Cherokee without a Cherokee mother.

starting #1398847840272253038
I read 30 volumes of "Detective Conan". And finished my audiobook ("The last white man" which had such a promising idea but the execution was.. eh?)
But I am so into Detective Conan right now, nostalgia is strong. I stopped logging them all because it got annoying. Might be a while for me to read a book without pictures again:D
I finished a book today
i finished another book

last day of the readathon for me! i just want to finish up the book of tbilisi
okay it's over for me blergh
im here w my show & tell
everything i know about love by dolly alderton
is an anthology style memoir that i really enjoyed ! based on the title and cover i thought it'd be about romantic love but she actually starts with "everything i know about love, i have learned in my long term friendships with women"
and that's really the best way to sum up this book
i listened to this as an audiobook (im a sucker for author-read audiobooks) so i kinda went into this without much expectations but it was actually so enjoyable i devoured it in two sittings
many people don't like this book bcz she spends a lot of it sharing stories from her uni days partying recklessly, (and also ig, she's difficult to root for, which i found really refreshing that she portrayed herself as so) but i really enjoyed it
bcz:
ive never seen a memoir in this kind of messy style like some chapters are stories some are recipes some are like satirical pieces of writing (eg "things people say that annoy you", "everything i knew about love at 25") and that was really enjoyable and refreshing
i dont know if it was the structure or the book or her humour or her wording but she was really fun to listen to, i really enjoyed listening to this book
the content !! yes there is a lot of uni partying in it but her female friendships are always in the background of it all, how they guide her, inspire her, help her, support her, how they love her, how she loves them and some things she says, about female friendships and growing up really hit home for me
i listen to a lot of memoirs but this one really stuck out to me because of how raw it felt, and how even though me and her had absolutely nothing in common, i really related to the things she said about growing up
Being hit with love as friendships with women would make me weep, I love platonic love
🩷
Final update:
13 complete. 2 incomplete.
Considering a few co.oleted ones weren't on the initial plan, I'll take it.

What did you think of it? I feel like it's starting off really slow, so I took a break to read other things.
It’s still the 8th in my time zone so-
i liked it MUAHAHAHH but generally i like gruesome stories written by women about women so...
i think it picked up the pace around the 30% ish?
hang in there! i hope you'd like it as much as i did
I like these kinds of stories too. I think I was just impatient after other stories grabbing my attention more quickly. Definitely going to give it a solid try!
Thea Stilton and the Dragon’s Code. While I defo read more Geronimo Stilton (and one of his books had a lesson about fire hazards that I remember to this day), I didn’t realize that I remembered so much of this one until I picked it up for the BR. The little “Did you know?” segments are great for little fun facts, and the clue-marks seem like a great way to introduce kids to the idea that “you can solve the mystery before The Big Reveal”. Also, the changing things to rat/mouse and the font-choice-for-inflection is just
. While i did have some criticism of one character seeming more stereotyped than the others, it’s held up for the most part.
Also when I was reading this and told my sister (who is also now Jana’s sister because she asked) that I was late because I was reading this, she said “I get it. Thea Sisters lives in my heart.”
i love when i host a readathon and end up with a new sister
This was a fun readathon but I couldn’t do any show and tells because none of my books inspired me enough to do them. I did however break out of a rut I’d been in and have been enjoying reading a lot more in a relaxed calm way. Loved the lo-fi sessions
Thanks for hosting jana! Can’t wait for whatever you have next💜
all of my books read were adult themed besides murderbot and i only finished that yesterday. but as always, i love participating in these!
thank you for hosting jana!
i also didnt know what to do for my show and tell, but i managed to finish the chonk of gay vampire so its still a win for me
it should already end for everyone i think
giving out the role now!!
<@&1399390413324025896>
will expire same time & day next week!
oo the purple is so pretty
oooh we purble
awww I love that role!

Aww it’s so prettyyyyyyy

Love the purple!
is it too light? i can change it if it is :D
I will always take purple in any shade.
yayyy i am becoming more of a purple girly too
Purple has been my favorite color since I was a kid. I even have purple hair. 😅
last readathon of august

I'm hopefully going to finish katabasis (if I haven't already) and then a game of thrones, since I've only got 1 day of work and that's only 4 hours
OMG YAY this comes in perfect timing, i’m in such a mood to lock myself home and read 24/7
by the time this starts i’m probably going to start another fairytale, it’s twisted tale pair and then hopefully the epic of gilgamesh
i actually dont know what ill read😭
the fairytale i’m probably going to start after the one i’m in is The Little Mermaid and then it’s twisted tale pair which is Part of Your World!! so hopefully 3 reads on this readathon ^^
have carl choose!
am going to try and finish Zola's La Curée; i totally stuffed up this month's TBR by not listing the Sealey challenge after deciding to do it at the last minute and it's been making reading a chore
go to spam box and put “!pick item x, item y, …”
i've pinged you in #spam-box
Not sure what I'm going to read yet, but looking forward to this!
you don’t need to plan ahead sakura, you always slay with your reads
Thank you! I'll be winging it for sure this time.
Omigosh yes I need to read the little mermaid
join me!!
I WILL

oh wait, do they have to be books started and finished in the time period to count?
no no! it's just a chill readathon so it's pretty whatever
nothing to earn & no prompts to finish!
ah cool!
Going to read Katabasis most likely
Very excited to wrap up a few books I’ve been working on so they can count toward my month wrap up. I have the house to myself this weekend, too! Kismet!
wahooooo
First time joining a readathon, I'm excited! I will probably be reading "ten birds that changed the world". It would be nice to finish it and tackle something else in my TBR.
yay!!
Birds
I'm afraid I won't be able to lock in a single book this weekend
once again I have to socialize
* Cries in 'just wants to be left alone to read' *
honestly same
I keep hoping to be left alone for once but weekends end up being the busiest. I'm trying to cancel every plan this Sunday though so I can get like at least half a day of some cosy reading time
I’m excited for this
my tbr is https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1400533993203695817 and Julie Chan is Dead by L. Zhang!
I'm going to see what I get through today and make some loose choices for the readathon weekend.
Hunger games 2-5, The count of monte christo, percy jackson.
Readathon TBR!

- [read] black flame; gretchen felker-martin

i think I’m going to change my plans and add another book or so
i’m going to be purely reading and disconnecting my brain for 3 entire days
much needed
i’m putting off everything i can move to just chill ^^
YAYYY I CAN START
I'm just going to read #1408064680206799001
i wanted to start this so bad but i'm so tired!! so i'll wait till morning, have fun spicy!!
Sleep well, Lu!
First awkward family gathering, then reading!!
I have a family gathering too!
Worse, its the inlaw family
I am anticipating 100 times: so when are you two marrying and starting a family?

Noooooo 😭
I'm expecting "how's your boyfriend?" (I've been single for 5 years) and "when are you going yo get your drivers liscense"
people need to mind their own business and just start asking fun questions
people need to mind
their own business and just start
asking fun questions
"what is your favorite dinosaur"?
"If blue can't be your favorite color, why is it green?"
"do you have a favorite bananabread recipe?"
I always tell people that unfortunately my mother in law can't have kids
aww not much reading done because im unfortunately very sick with fever and migraine
but im 60% into The Crucible
Hope you feel better soon Scarlett!
Finished the first one!
get well soon!
oh scarlett I hope you get well soon, love!!
i am starting this!!!
i’m going to listen to the audiobook of https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1183699829977784320 while i clean my room!!
i love listening to audiobooks while doing chores ^^
slay
I slept all day and kept my eyes on the news even though I really wanted to look away so hopefully I can do some reading for the night after I walk my dogs and exercise 🏋♀️
would anyone be interested in a lofi sesh?
(ping me if yes!)
ofc!!
hopefully you can, love!
I love u
same girl <3<3 did you think about a specific time??
is just to keep an eye on the hour, i'm known for getting distracted lmao
and i wouldn't want to leave you hanging!!
I'm interested if it works out with my morning! (I have an appointment in an hour, but will go in/out if needed depending on when/how long)
Books I want to finish this readathon that I've already started:
- Stalking Jack the Ripper
- It Came from the Closet
- We Sold Our Souls
Books I want to start (and maybe finish):
- The Red Pyramid
- Blood Like Mine
- The Twilight Garden
I think I can get settled in for the night some time after this <t:1756481400:t> what do you guys think? we can read for like an hour or so
@high merlin @distant dew
I also need to start sorting out the read off teams teehee
I’ll join too! I’ll almost be off work by then
i‘ll join 2
it works for me!!
Okay, I’ll be reading #1320445046604169329 for the readathon which is basically setting myself up for failure for I sure as hell cannot be finishing it over the weekend but here’s to attempting anyway
Me too!
yay! I'm still folding laundry LOL be there in a bit
we usually do it in the book talk vc channel!
I'll be there in a second!
more laundry than I thought
@quartz rover @high merlin @hollow acorn live in https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/812564106166796358
I've been doing so bad omg, I haven't read yet today and it's already 8pm, but, trust, I will reorganize my bookshelfs (I've been getting so many new books I don't have a system anymore) and then I'll read non-stop
i still have yet to choose a read for the readathon
there is always @sharp cedar
I've only read 30 pages of #1089684463685992639 so far and I wanted to make a real dent today
oh well
there is always tomorrow
Yeah there is 😊
How did I manage to create less space..... I used to have 2 free shelves/planks, and now I have 0.....
i've kept open some spaces tho, because I'm still building lego hogwarts which I want to put next to my harry potter books, and I don't have the full game of thrones set yet so I need some space for that
But other than that I think I can leave like 1 or 2 books depending on the size..... Or I'd have to lay books on top of my books or double layer them
finished sophie's world !!
making moves with #1403087594102718595
sitting down to keep working on https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1386744991354716271
really keen to get to a place in this book where I understand wtf is going on
16% in #1320445046604169329 !
Since my original plan may have been a far reach considering my very full weekend, I’m hoping to get at least halfway through it
i just finished https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1183699829977784320 !! ^^
i think i’m going to start https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1398847840272253038 because i decided last minute i wanted to jump on the botm
it just sounded so interesting and it’s short so reading it before the deadline is manageable
and i have the audiobook too! niceeee
I've read a chapter for #1408064680206799001. Hopefully I can get more reading done this weekend, just been so out of it the past few days cause of the flu
i hope you feel better soon!
i hate hate hate getting the flu
My readathon tbr:
Finish The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Sunrise on the Reaping
Maybe finish Babel?
Or start Children of Memory, I haven’t decided yet
I finished only one chapter in my book today. But I'm now half way through it so I'm satisfied
only 3 more poetry books and i'm done with the Sealey challenge!
I’ve been reading #1401251655055441921 !!!

Completed! (8/29)
- It Came from the Closet
- Stalking Jack the Ripper
- The Whisper Man
starting this https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1398847840272253038 before i go to bed
i'm going to listen to the audiobook while reading it on the ebook, idk why lately this has been my go to modus operandi for reading, it makes me capable of reading while anxious!! there's something about the double stimuli ig hahaha
idk how much i'm gonna read tho, cause i'm a little bit tired and it's late over here
i’m 14% into https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1398847840272253038 i’ll keep reading tomorrow!! i’m really liking this book so far, it’s heart warming <3<3
Ooh whisper man was one of my very first mystery reads ever
How was it?
I enjoyed it! I did listen to it and think I missed a few things, so may reread it at some point.

Not only did I not read anything in the book I intended to read this weekend, I also started a new audio book for some reason.
i liked it a lot!!
second book on the readathon yay!!! tomorrow i’ll focus on the last book of the month to start fresh for the read off!!
I finished The Wee Free Men earlier so I’m halfway through my ‘intended’ list!
Read The Second Generation today!
Will continue another book, but won't be finishing anything else before bed.
made it through 35% of Julie Chan is Dead tonight!

oo i already did it then left for lunch! i can do another one soon-ish.
Awh no worries! I just realised I saw your message late
I don't really know what a lofi reading session entails tbh
Kinda like body doubling without cameras but some lo-fi in the bg to get through reading or whatever tasks you have?
Ah I see! Thank you 😊
yes! exactly that
i'll launch the lofi activity and then set a scenery + background noise effects (depends on the scenery you can have snow or rain etc) and then some lofi music and we just sit and read or do anything
I‘ll finally start a book for this readathon and will start over an old audiobook I‘ve been meaning to get through
I started and finished a book last night!
Haven't had a lot of time to read, but I've read 200 pages in katabasis since this readathon

i'm reading https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1402060563479265333 today ^^

Happy September and good luck to everyone still in August!
It's not quite the 1st here yet but I'm mostly done reading for the night since I have to prepare for classes to start. But I'm really proud of how much reading I got done (even though I neglected my household chores

Started Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy.

I managed to finished The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson at 11:40 pm, bringing me to 3/4 finished. I’m okay with not getting all four since I ended up absolutely binging some Webtoons instead

HAHAHA were you home on friday? /j
how did you know?
I finished #1320445046604169329 last night! So glad I chose to go with that cuz bingeing it instead of stretching out through weeks made for a lot more enjoyable experience and I got a chonker down and feel good about it
Yess! Thanks for hosting

YIPEE

do i have to do anything to join? 👀 I am in a desperate need to finish some books lol
nope you just read during the readathon dates and update the thread occasionally with your progress
I hope you enjoy ulysses!
My next two weekends are super hectic but I’m hoping to finish reading these two bad boys -
#1361996133567828129
Pale Fire - Nabokov
my readathon tbr would be Babel and JJK Vol. 3
also gotta finish babel, and maybe a soul to keep
I think I might try and finish a few things over the weekend:
Sailor Moon Volumes 10-12 - Naoko Takeuchi
World War Z, An Oral History of the Zombie War - Max Brooks
Maybe even continue:
Tusk Love - Thea Guanzon
Ahriman the Omnibus - John French
readathon goalz
The Burning God by R F Kuang
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas
Babel by R F Kuang
I want to finish my current reads
But I'll probably start 7 other books instead because I have ✨️ reading adhd ✨️
i am slumping so i will take it slow with the school of good and evil
I haven't even looked at what I want to read for this.
Also how are all these books part of these long ass series
What happened to stand alones smh
I am hoping to maybe finish these:
🐭 Thea Stilton and the Mountain of Fire
🌾 The Grapes of Wrath
🧙♀️ Equal Rites (sic)
I will be spending most of the readathon time period with family, so I will either have lots of time to read or zero. It's up to them. 😄
My goal is to finish my last 6 summer reading challenge books, Kaiju Preservation Society, and at least make headway on Crime and Punishment
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time!
it’s starting in 2 hours for me and I aim to finish one chapter of my cr :D
hmmm I don't want to start anything before the readathon so I think I will read a couple of short stories today
will leave https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1408064680206799001 until the readathon starts
it's readathon time for me hip hip
i feel you
i’m slumping so hard on my reading
i barely have time and when i do i’m exhausted so i look to the ceiling and be like
urgh I'm so sorry lu
I'm gonna restart my book so it can count for bonus readathon points. just reading the school of good and evil for now
but my plans for this long (thanks for making it longer jana
) readathon are Babel and The Red Pyramid
i’m not going for much cause i want to be realistic here
even then i might not finish them both
nice!
i’m not restarting babel but i’m waiting till tomorrow to start the other new book
and then count that one ^^
teehee with the no theme thing I thought having it go on for longer might be good as there is more flexibility
you are a genius
no doubt there

totally reading Percy Jackson & The Olympians: Sea of Monsters too
i'm gonna be reading a romance series this readathon :)
starting with Game Changer by Rachel Reid tomorrow
okay I got through 13 pages and it took me an hour but I finished my one readathon goal lmao so now I feel a bit ambitious yes
r__eadathon tb__r
the school of good and evil
the canterville ghost
the moomins and the great flood
the tell-tale heart
the wild robot
stay out of the basement
and maybe start alias grace
you go girl!!
haha and then I flop and not read anything haha
but I appreciate this readathon actually it came at a good time and I love having a light book to read
why am I acting like I'm not the one deciding the dates lmao

it's okay, at the end of the day reading should be fun, not stressful, but i get you it happens, it's valid, you read what you feel you can, and that alone will be perfect <3
real real
HAHAHAHAH
I also want to smash the other read-off teams
slay

don't put too much pressure on you tho<3<3
totally!
am probably just going to keep trying to get through A Storm of Swords and finish vol 1 of #1372844095554453505 (am so close!). maybe start another book in #1329215324184121435 or, if i actually want to finish a book during a readathon, maybe start Herland?
i'm terrible at finishing books during readathons, i just tend to make progress on ones i'm already reading it seems
I haven't done many readathons, and I may not understand the rules, but I think making progress on books is exactly the point.
i think i just feel like folks tend to get through loads of books during these and i (incorrectly) judge my progress as snail-like 😅
Hehe, I understand. I read at a snail-like pace, so I tell myself it is a little like slowly eating dessert.

🙏 I'm really hoping to finish https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1411655470258847884 this weekend. If I have the space, hopefully I can crank out a couple chapters of https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1400397662607511592 as well. I have 10 days left until book club for A Thousand Splendid Suns and my leadership training at work for The Advantage. The upside is that I'm listening to the audiobook for https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1409093849456050225 and it's a very interesting to listen to on the way to and from work. Listened to about 20 minutes of that book today

I love that all of yours are buddy reads on top of it! I didn't even think of linking those to mine. Maybe with the next update.
It’s just how much obc has taken over my life atm
I rarely have any personal reads like usually 1-2 max/month
i finished #1385965135822065685 so i can get on to #1385898229920432129 which will be my first book of the readathon
I totally get this! I have a lot of OBC buddy reads at any given time too. I have a hard time saying no. 🫠
sakura may i have $100000 please
Sadly, I do have to say no to your request, Naya. I just don't have that kind of money. 😭
What did you think of the raven scholar???
yesterday was a full day of reading and im up to ch 12 of babel
I am gonna start Eragon now

There’s so much Christie because my grandma got me a Miss Marple box set last year lol
would love to hear ur thoughts on it! I've read some of the Poirot books but never Miss Marple
I finished The Fae Cafe, cute and cozy
i really enjoyed it!! i couldn’t put it down, was thinking abt it at work and everything. the world building and characters are so gooddd!! i gave it 4.5 stars.
this is a mild spoiler for the ending that can find out on goodreads that made me upset ||the sequel is not yet out so the story isnt complete which makes me mad that i have to wait ages for this cliff hanger ||
If Poirot is obsessed with the “who did it?”, then Miss Marple is obsessed with the “why did they do it?” Sometimes things feel a little too convenient, but all mystery series feel like that at times. The worst Miss Marple book is better than the worst Poirot, but the best Miss Marple isn’t as good as the best Poirot if that makes sense?
Oh and if you read The Mirror Crack’d From Side to Side, HIGHLY recommend seeing the stage adaptation of it afterward

I got a lot of reading done in my book last night!
Its about cowboys and it made me realise i know absolutely nothing of cowboys or rodeo lol
apparently a bucking horse used for bareback rodeo is called a bronc
I think I may finally finish The secret of secrets today
I finished book 2! A Soul to Keep by Opal Rayne. That was... a new one for me
Book two down with A House With Good Bones!
how was that? i like T Kingfisher. would you consider that one horror?
It definitely had a lot of horror elements in my opinion. I think it was a good exploration of trauma though, and I enjoyed it a lot. If you're squimish with bugs though, I'd say be cautious going in
It lived up to the Southern Gothic I was expecting going in /positive
50% through Katabasis now!
Reading "the let them theory" because my mom said it'll help, and will also read "the long walk" because the new movie just came out and it lowkey sounds interesting and I'm hopeless at watching movies

made some progress on A Psalm for the Wild Built! Started at 33% and now i'm at 85%
Well, I said that visiting family would either mean lots of time to read or zero time to read. It meant zero.
It was nice to see them, though! 💕
Books (not) read:
🐭 Thea Stilton and the Mountain of Fire - finishing soon
🌾 The Grapes of Wrath - read just enough to decide to DNF -_-
🧙♀️ Equal Rites (sic) - on hold for another time
I also had family time to priorise so I have not reached my goal but that's fine !
I really progressed in the botm though so I'm satisfied
always love family time! hope you had a good time
Finished: Arcana Academy

tbr!!
• dracula - bram stoker

I'm going to let the ghostly vibes lead me as I go, I have some ideas of things I'm hoping to get done but you never know 😭
At least aiming for 5 books!
Hoping for The Canterville Ghost 👻 or The Tell-Tale Heart ❤️🔥 (whichever the library currently has available), as they are the spookiest from #tiny-readers. Embarrassingly, I have them both in giant tomes ("complete works of"), but they are kind of huge/awkward to read.
wahooooo
I have couple of books I would like to finish but let's see how much I get it done.
- The Story of a New Name
- Our Wives Under the Sea
- Frienkenstein {BOTM}(https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1421571557280579745)
Woohoo!
Should I try to finish some books on this readathon or only read frankenstein to collect bonus pages ?
Wahoo
Whatever you feel like, please do not let the read-off dictate what you read sweetheart /gen
Very valid point...and I do feel like Pachinko deserves more attention ! Thanks Jana
Of course my love!
i‘ll probably read #1421016035083026546 for this readathon 🫶

Nice and spooky
Damn you guys have such cool TBRs! Very happy to see old and new faces
Less than 2 hours before this starts for me
maybe I'll read something short to pass the time
Still planning on trying to finish alchemised 🥲 400 pages to go, after that I think I'll just go see where my moodreading leads me
How are you finding it so far?
I find it very easy to read, suprisingly enough, it just bothers me that the|| flashback is 500 pages long||, like cmon I want to know how it is NOW, so far it's a 4 star for me
It's very addicting
But also, I don't want the ||flashback|| to end
Just wish I had more free time so that I could read more in 1 go, so that I would remember some more, I can now read max 20 pages at once due to only being able to read in the train to college
Can you cover up ||mentions of the flashback|| with spoiler bars pleasee and thank you
I finished my first book #1419061276243525683 but it won‘t count for read-off points
Dunno what to read next, too many options
I actually didn’t make any progress on katabasis for the last readathon so I know what my goal is for this one 🤣
"Read for my event!" I scream as they put me in the OBC Marshmallow room
OBC Marshmallow room sounds sick
Okay I will finish:
- Alchemised - SenLinYu
- The Cousins - Karen M McManus
- I Can't talk so smoothly - Naoya Shiino
- Arsenic and Adobo - Mia P Manansala
- Dan Brown - Secret of Secrets
- Rose in Chains - Julie Soto
