i‘m lowkey disappointed ngl
i‘m still processing it
talking it through with my bestie (they loved it and it’s their favorite in the series so far)
Okay hit me up when you processed ❤️
3am and I just finished Hamlet
You deserve a sleep after that!
made it a quarter of the way through Stoner, I want to savour it though so I will switch tasks for a bit
Read Starter Villain for almost an hour. Hoping to finish by tomorrow. Now I'm going to listen to some Murderbot Book 2 while I make supper.

i think i‘ll be spending the last day of this readathon finishing up the metamorphoses, unless i magically finish this before the day ends which will allow me to pick up another book
I haven't read at all today
so I'm going to do a lil sprinty sprint to catch up
I think my readathon goals were too ambitious
Same
I did start God of the Woods but got distracted bij Prince and Assassin (perilous courts book 1) and read that until 50% in bed last night
Sorry not sorry
Which BTW I'm thoroughly enjoying
The cheap cover alway put me off reading it
i’m so glad you’re enjoying it andy
kay i didn’t do much reading lolsssssssssssssssss so i’m gonna LOCK IN after dinner and try to finish this tonight
The readathon is now over for me, I finished the first Harry Potted Book and got 76/109 pages into The Little Prince, honestly better then I thought I would do
readathon is over for me too! i didn‘t end up finishing the metamorphoses because i started severance s2. see you all in the next one
Readathon is about over for me, too. I managed to finish Dead Silence and I'm about to start #1327570944918818910 so I did reasonably well. Looking forward to the next one
omg I need to start s2 soon as well! I have to stay off twitter to avoid spoilers
I've got 6 hours left and I'm aiming to finish 2 more books if I can
urgh it‘s been so good i‘ve just finished the 2nd episode of s2 and
I have a little over an hour and ten min to finish #1323790126324777033
I’m only 43% through so going to start a reading sprint to hopefully finish🥲
Edit:I fell asleep 3/4th through my reading sprint
i’m joining your sprint, i really need to finish my cr
Haha okay I should be starting like now 🫶😭
nvm it’s too late for me, have fun dude!!
I will read in the next few hours since I still have some time left for this readathon
but I finished Roadside Picnic, read about a third of Parable of Talents, and now taking a crack (finally!!) at In Cold Blood
I might finish prince and assassin in bed right now and that will conclude the readathon for me! I had a lot of fun and felt motivated again to do some sprints : D
I still have around 12 more hours so I'm gonna finish this shit!!!!
Turning on the engine in my ass
Finished another Death Note book and it was ok!
Finished The Prince and The Assasin! It was cute
my readathon ends here as well
i only finished one book but i managed to read 500 pages across three different ones
500 pages is huge katto, nice work
I finished one, read an entire one, and then got a third of the way through a third book
Very productive readathon
OML THANK GOD I FINISHED A CHAPTER and got to cross off another task
All that's left of my goals is to do my school readings!
It is Plato time 😎
lmao I was so optimistic thinking I would read four #the-witcher books but in my defence I did get through some other BRs instead

I hope to finish my current read of Orbital https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1332985803210752063 by today so I can start fresh for the readathon
Sorry if this is stupid but when you say 1st to second do you mean 48 hours or 24 hours?
What do you mean / gen
1st of February to the 2nd of February, all day, in your own timezones
Like is it only tge whole day of the first or also the second
Like is it only
tge whole day of the first or
also the second
Nvm I will just follow the other people if I join
It‘s all-day for both.
So you have the entirety of the 1st and 2nd.
Okay thank you
@rocky canyon i updated the announcement, is it less confusing?
yes
ooh maybe for the baby birthday readathon, I can finally make sure I finish L'Assommoir from #1329215324184121435
is it okay to decide what to read as we go along? I'm trying really hard not to start new books till I finish the 2 I'm currently reading but will have a better idea of what I will read closer to those dates (sorry, still new here).
You're good, you can absolutely just decide what to read as you go
Some folks like to make a plan but that's not required!
So excited for this readathon finishing my current read so can start fresh with new reads for this readathon !!

make more progress on The Way of Kings (maybe finish, we shall see)
at least start #1322105429131661345
Zander! Early hapyy birthday!
thank you Andy

it should just be the title! there isnt usually a theme for the readathons but jana sometimes does optional challenges
ooh sorry i didn’t see this! and it’s just the title of the readathon because we’re doing readathons for all the february weekends coz of obc bday, and it’s a baby one because it’s shorter than our normal readathons.
Oh wow that’s a lot of readathon!
Obc’s bday, we want to celebrate as much as possible
Oh makes sense
My plan for the first readathon:
🎂 Finish https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1324018746045497425
🎂 Start and finish The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells
🎂 Start another book TBD
You're reading 2 different books called invisible man? Awesome!
Haha, yeah. I'm doing the winter bingo so "The Invisible Man" fills the prompt of "similar title as previous book".
Wanted to clarify to make sure I understand what a readathon is…read as much as possible in a given timeframe?
Yeah, pretty much.
So, I won‘t send in challenges for the upcoming 1st to 2nd February one because it‘s going to be a short one and I just want everyone to chill and start their February book adventure their own way, but will send some things for the other Feb readathons.
Don‘t hesitate to ping me if anyone has any questions!
readathon TBR: finish The Feast by Margaret Kennedy, read Clear by Carys Davies and Foster by Claire Keegan
Readathon plan this weekend:

📖 finish reading She’s Always Hungry and actually make a dent in In Cold Blood

For this Readathon I wanna pick some books that have been sitting untouched on my shelf for ages
I‘m thinking maybe
- On Earth We‘re Briefly Gorgeous

- You‘d Be Home Now
hello!
i haven’t read anything in the past three weeks, but if i do manage to read something i’ll document it here for the readathon!
I hope to read 100 pages of my current book Tenant of Wildfell Hall this weekend for the baby readathon
I can only do one day fully reading buttt I wanna finish eat pray love and maybe frituur paradisio on sunday to stay on top of my reading goal for the year

oh i didn't realise there was a buddy read for orbital, thank you for linking ur thoughts
it only recently started
It started like on the 28th! It‘s really a good book
I thought I could finish Barbi and villain today sleep wave is hitting me lmao! But thank you for obc mini readathon this weekend!! Enjoyed it a lot!! Can’t wait for the next one will finish this read tomorrow
I read Foster by Claire Keegan today and am just starting Clear by Carys Davies
What did you think of Foster?
I enjoyed it! There was a nice balance between the melancholy that underpins some of the interactions between characters and events in the book, and the peace and love that the character finds in her foster family. I would've liked it to be a liiiiittle bit longer so I could've seen the relationship between the narrator and Kinsella develop further, but I appreciate Keegan's light touch and her way of telling deeply human stories with relatively sparse language and in short texts
65% through Clear, going to take a break to make dinner and then watch a stream for a bit
Ya I really liked how she was able to capture the essence of a character without spending too much space and I really enjoyed her writing
Final Results:
📚 Finished Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
📚 Started and finished The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells
📚 Started and finished The Pollinator Victory Garden by Kim Eierman

Thank you for this weekends readathon @potent obsidian !

I finished The Raven Boys, which I enjoyed reading very much. I made some progress in The God of The Woods, which I'm not sure yet if I'm enjoying. And I started The Wolf at the Door which I thought was going to be very raunchy but honestly I'm 3/4th in now and I'm totally here for the murder investigation!

<@&1309963907518955560> Hi hi everyone! Just wanted to send in a reminder that the 2nd weekend Readathon of February will go on from the 7th of Feb to the 9th of Feb, all in your own timezones and lasts all day. I think it has started for a good chunk of people
It’s started for me! But I didn’t do any reading today as I had a very busy day. I’m about to end the day now with some reading.
I just started The House in the Cerulean Sea last night. I plan to finish it. I don't have my next read planned. For the winter bingo I'll need to pick something with opposite tropes and I just haven't figured out what that will be next. I have a book club meeting tonight and have been guilted into going to a super bowl party on Sunday 🤮 so I'm not sure how much time I'll really have.
Any time is good time!
i dont think i'll be participating in this period as i was having a busy weekend (my relatives' birthday at 7th and a concert at 9th!
)
i also have to pack today bc i will be travelling in 3 days
No worries! Enjoy your concert
but my reading goal for the weekend is When Did You Last See Her by Lemony Snickett

trying to finish reading the supplementary material in my edition of Shakespeare's The Tempest (it's a Norton Critical Edition)
I really want to read, but I can't decide which book
I have never done readathon but sounds intriguing specially winter weather forecast this weekend.
Finish: I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
Start: Martyr by Kaveh Akbar
Start: Not 100% sure but Piranesi by Suzanna Clarke
I'm making solid progress with The Scottisch Boy, but it's also making me cry
I loved Piranesi! It was one of my favorite books I read last year. I had rushed it a bit to finish it for another book and am planning to reread it this year to spend more time on it.
i finished Wicked this morning!
OMG how was this one!!! i wanna rread that one badly !!
might read it for plane ride too

it‘s a weird book for sure, don’t expect it to be anything like the musical/movie
oof not surrpised tho tbf
Sitting down to read as much of The Haunting of Hill House as I can until I inevitably start to doze off
(This has nothing to do with the quality of the book, I am just sleepy today)
Got halfway through Hill House without falling asleep! Having a blast with this one, will come back to it in a bit
Finished the Scottisch Boy! 6/5 stars it made me both cry and giddy. It helped me realise how much I love medieval setting, knights and all. Most fantasy I've read is more of a late medieval borders regency kinda level but this brought me back to Camelot and sir Arthur and his knights. The book is 50% jousting and 50% romance and I was here for it equally. Harry is my favorite type of main character; kinda clueless, big himbro 🫶
I hope to finish The Assassins Apprentice today (audio), just looking for an activity to do whilst listening

So far my plan today !
ooh I've just finished The Fall Risk by Abby Jimenez so I'll count that as my novella
ooohhh thats on my tbr for May when im on holiday! how was it!!?
I hated it
really silly plot that my work brain just couldn't explain away, random ||incest mentions||, source of conflict that came out of nowhere and was resolved super quickly
yeah, really not for me but it's not my usual kind of book
oh dang LMAO im sory you hated it!! and fair enough some books like hers arent for everryone at least u gave it a good go!!
thankfully it was super short so I didn't waste too much time
ooohhh you might potentially like Just for the summer by Abby Jimenez but it is quite chonkhyy but fastt pace whn i read it!
I uuuuuh forgot it was Valentine's Day so um thank you for the reminder
Excited for the readathon!
Lets see what Im going to read
I dont think i have a novella on my tbr or something with hearts
(not me looking on Wikipedia what fits the titel 'novella')
Yeah I just did the same, I know its supposed to be a shorter novel but I wasnt sure how short it has to be for it to count
i found up to 160 pages
oh! hearts and a novella!
how short were novellas?

not much of this day left for me in my timezone, but hoping to finish the intro to my copy of Shakespeare's Cymbeline, it is looooong
What about it do you think I’d like?
Well it’s deffo a romance if I remember the characters were really good very fast pace the worldbuilding was like you couldn’t put it down I’d say maybe give it a go? And it does give you excitement too ready for the summer reads
And aswell I think it had different POVs with characters
I think anything that is 100-150 pages is okay
okay so I'm still thinking about the question but I did the other challenges
I'm sorry if this looks absolutely massive
AWW I LOVE THIS

In regards to the question, what is love to me? I like the Greek take on love:
"Eros, agape and filia have been used since the ancient Greeks to indicate three different types of love. Eros is greedy love, consisting of attraction and passionate desires. Agape, spiritual love, concerns affection and selfless love for your loved ones. Finally, there is filia: the love of friendship. This love includes friendly affection and is special because, unlike the previous two, it recognizes the loved one in his or her complete individuality. According to Plato (427-347 BC), philia is comparable to philosophy: they love something for its own sake (the friend and wisdom respectively). Although the three loves can be experienced separately, they are united in an ideal relationship"
Also Eros and Agape make me think about Yuri !!! on Ice and that always makes me happy

so far so good
a wee bit slower than my liking but its a best seller, so i just gotta see it thru
Oh wow that cover is really different than the one I have, makes it look like a crime thriller lol
Wait lol it is a mystery thriller. Why did I think it was fantasy?
I would love to hear your thoughts!
I don‘t blame you, the other cover is misleading
I thought it was a fantasy too before looking at the genre tags!
Is it the one with a pink drip?
Yes!!
I finished my first read of the readathon with Banal Nightmares and it was horrible, I skimmed it honestly and it just did not get any better. I didn‘t DNF it but it was so bad and I lowkey don‘t really want to mark it as ‘read’
Damn I’m sorry bestie your read wasn’t expected was going to be ! I hope your next read will be better!!

I'm trying to figure out how to format my tbr as I've never done that before, could anyone help me out so I could take part in this readathon and post the message in its proper place, would greatly appreciate the help
Reading: The Tainted Cup
How's that going so far?
So far so good, only one chapter in so still being introduced to the characters.
Sorry I can't help you with your formatting question. I don't know how to do that fancy stuff either. I think you can just post what book(s) you are reading and then update with where you got up to and/or if you finished.
The current book I'm reading is "Red Rising by Pierce Brown"
And I have a couple of books that I plan on reading during the last stretch of Feb and beginning of Mar
Should I post the TBR here or in the Shelfies channel
Like post the list here and the picture there? Or the list and picture there

and I want to finish
🐦⬛ The Raven King (GR-link-> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18187013-the-raven-king)
Yayyy another weekend another Readathon!!!!
I want to:
- finish Less (by Andrew Sean Greer)
- start and maybe finish Gliff (Ali Smith) and Rental House (Weike Wang) - both women authors
- continue reading poems by Ursula Le Guin and short stories from my New Yorker centennial collection

I am going to finish https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1330090227112611870 and start on The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
You seem more motivated this time round too ! Love that for you

How does the spell out your (user/display)name using books written by women challenge work? Like, can we pull out letters as needed from titles and rearrange them?
So if you wanted to do something like Cat, for C you could use a book that has a title starting with C or a book written by someone whose first or last name starts with C
does that make sense?
usually it's book title but you might not have a favourite that starts with that letter
Yup, makes sense. thanks!
okay, i‘m gonna spell out my name now
j - judas goat \ gabrielle bates
a - against the loveless world \ susan abulhawa
n - normal people \ sally rooney
a - acts of desperation \ megan nolan
your luck that you could use normal people
i think my username is a tad too long for a 2 day readathon
the books you pick to spell out your name don't have to be read this weekend
just your favourite books ever that fit the letters of your name
it‘s meant to be! 🌷
ok, i‘m starting out this readathon with https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1345300729702645781
I think I'm also gonna read that tomorrow too
YAY i can’t wait to read your thoughts
ooooh I didn't realize
okay, that's fun, let me see
It’s gonna be challenging finding book names starting with z that I’ve enjoyed
t - To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf
h - Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones
e - The Empusium by Olga Tokarczuk
l - The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin
a - All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Towes
s - Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
t - Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
p - Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
a - Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood
g - The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai
e - Emma by Jane Austen
haha jpuzz playing on hard mode
What a fantastic list!!! Many of my favorite authors there too. How did you like Empusium?
I actually haven't read it yet, I had trouble with the vowels so I had to choose books that were highly anticipated off my TBR
I have it on hold, should hopefully get it soon!
Ohhhhh oop sorry
oh no worries!
I also had it from my library once but had to return it cuz it was very popular
yeah there's a bit of a wait, as there often is, but that's okay because it just builds anticipation haha
To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Kindred by Octavia E Butler
I have been watching some Xiran Jay Zhao tik toks on Tumblr and they are 🔥 that author has a knack for straight up real talk
I love them so much

ayee i didnt see that lool i missed that message somehow
So I've read The Yellow Wallpaper so far today but considering how short it is I'm not really counting it. I'm going to be starting Convenience Store Woman now
awwww count it abi!! 💛
i just had brunch, continuing on with address unknown
going to the library this morning & the garden centre in the afternoon so i won’t have too much time to read
Garden centre sounds so fun tho! Enjoy wish I was going!

I'm about 50% in and it's really good so far. The lore is terrible and interesting. I'm surprised the series isn't more popular (said from beneath my rock, so maybe it is popular??)
I genuinely only heard about it a couple of months ago because kobo recommended it to me but I got the impression it wasn't that popular as well
I'm glad you're enjoying it though

Finished Normal People moving on to Annie Bot
Ohh how did you like Normal People??
I finished Less (Andrew Sean Greer).. didn’t realize there’s a sequel but I’m not that inclined to follow up with the mc lolol
Almost done with Ali Smith’s Gliff! Really like it so far. Then imma start Anne Michaels’ held
I really liked it. Gave it a 4/5. Very frustratingly complex characters.
did you pick up ali smith’s season quartet series thing?
I think I’ve read one of them (autumn)! It was several years ago and I don’t quite remember what it was about hahahahah
Finished We Do Not Part by Han Kang
settling into bed for some reading time
Oooh Held is on my tbr too,let me know your thoughts!
so slay abi
I continued the fox court series
it has me in a chokehold
i’m so proud of everyone’s readings
I will able to finish another read when I get back later today!
okay, i finished up my 4th book of the readathon with the blood of others by simone de beauvoir 🩷 3/4 of the books read are for the iwd bingo and i’m glad i read all women authors 🩷 i’m going to try & keep it up for this month. happy (late) international women’s day everyone 💗 🌷
Only read 1 book during readathon I’ve been feeling slightly sick today and depressed I haven’t read much been off social today
thank you for hosting though!! Can’t wait for next one when I feel more up to it
Thanks for hosting and what a great idea!!

I just finished
I have mixed feelings!! the writing was exquisite, very poetic. It’s written sort of like fragments across multiple generations of a wide cast of characters who are sort of connected but some of the connections are not so clear. It sort of reminds me of Orbital (Samantha Harvey). I like the recurring themes explored - especially of death/grief, war/oppression, science vs faith. But the plot/characters are all vibes hahaha
Marie Curie also makes an appearance but I’m not sure why she’s there
haha that sounds like what I know of her writing, so that tracks!
90% prose and vibes haha
Like I’d read her poetry for sure
her poetry is great, I have her collection All We Saw and it's one of my favorites
Adding it to my TBR
Yayyy thanks for hosting this Readathon Jana! I finished 3 books
feeling very productive
agreed, much appreciated! I read half of The Thirteenth Tale so I'm vibing

thank you
the days are getting longer and the sun has started appearing from its winter slumper so its warm enough for a lovely walk
haha I was wondering the same thing, so thanks to Amanda for asking and to jana for answering
Such fun and creative promts!!
Rainy weekend here so I’m all geared up for a cozy Readathon sesh
I have questions.
Is the Spring Breaker role a week-long role reward or is there only one week to get it? (If it only lasts a week, is that a week from the beginning of the readathon, from when you submit your completion or a week from the end? I don't know why I'm asking so many questions I don't even particularly care about gaining the role
It's my first time joining one so I just want to be sure I understand the setup)
Do I need to use your checklist when giving in my readathon or can I make my own?
I like that it's a week long event, I'm not very active on discord over the weekends.
I want you all to know my current TBR is over 2400 books..
Planned books for this Readathon:
#1334072443270205491
#1303273732848095275
McGlue - Ottessa Moshfegh
Rental House - Weike Wang
I unfortunately don’t get the whole week off but I’ll be reading this weekend for sure!
help I coincidentally just read outside today 😭
I might be overstepping but from what I understand the special role reward lasts for one week once the readathon is over 🙂 anyone who completes the tasks during the readathon dates will get the role!
jnix is right, it lasts for a week once the readathon is over. so whenever we end up giving the role to people, one week from that. and you can make your own checklist graphic-wise, no changing the prompts :3
and i’m so glad you’re joining!!
i can’t wait for this readathon to start ahhh
same!!
do you have your reads planned out yet my love :3
I had some books to read planned but they do not fit the prompts so I might have to reshuffle
I have a physical book laying around with plants on the cover, so that one would fit 2 prompts
Looking at my tbr I see Blood Over Bright Haven" by M.L. Wang, that has a big circle on the cover
and my irl bf gave it 5 stars so.....
might read that for pie day!

Hey ! I have a question !! I would like to participate, it looks really fun, but I don't think I will be able to finish the books I will start tomorrow for the 21th...Is that an issue ?
no, that won’t be an issue!
keep in mind though that for the prompts to be counted as finished & for you to be eligible for the role the books you read must be finished by the 21st, but for this readathon, it’s okay to use one book for more than one prompt 💗

How are the files? Is it a singular file, or is it like 20 files for each chapter?
Or is that more of an depending-on-the-publisher thing?
This is an example but you can have either.
that's great, thank youabi!
😅 I'm tired, I saw you talk about libro.fm in books and I was going to ask about it, and apparently when I came back to discord I saw your name and instantly asked and didn't see this was the wrong channel entirely. Thanks for still understanding me haha

Hey I’m still a little confused and just want to make sure I’ve got this right. To get the role we have to pick one of the things from the pinned list and then also complete the checklist in the picture?
yep! so if you complete one prompt from the pinned list you complete the pi day prompt on the checklist, if this makes sense?
Ohhhh gotcha ok that makes sense!
let me know if you have any other questions :3
I tried to explain it as best as I could in the pins but I confused myself too at one point and had to rewrite everything
No, no worries. You did a great job! I love the pi day tie in
the credit for that goes to Abi and Spicy
Ah yes, the math nerds

so far my goal for the readathon!!
omg yay!! 💗 💗
will a book count for this readathon if i start it today but finish it tomorrow (when the readathon starts for me)?
or do i need to wait
I think you have to wait if you want it to count for the readathon
I think you have to
wait if you want it to count
for the readathon
Here
Oh wait, it doesn’t say you can’t start the book early hmmm
hoping to finish off my next read im starting it today so im fresh for new tbr tomorrow
I usually start it during the readathon time frame :3
oooh me too!
yusss the Cult of the Readathon is growing
I’m hoping it keeps on growing, I do have loads of fun planning stuff out for you guys
it’s starting in 33 minutes for me I’m so excited
I still have almost 12 hours, but that's okay, time to power through school and contract work to make time for reading
Outside of maybe cleaning my TBR, I wont start mine officially until monday tbh.
I don't want to lock in any of the books before Ive gone to the bookstore and picked out a physical book. Maybe I'll find one with flowers on it!
Y’all really staying up til midnight to start reading?
I’m gonna get the spring cleaning prompt out of the way first, I’m most excited for that :3
I’m so happy more of you are joining too
◝(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) ◜♡
I've already started that! I'm gonna continue tomorrow - it's been my ongoing goal so neatening up my physical TBR is the move. I don't use my online trackers for that stuff so photos it shall be
Stay up til midnight and eat pie
I think if you’re going to do that one it should be the whole pie and you have to send pictures
I'M READY
hello readathoners!
HAPPY PI(E) DAY 🥧 !!!!!!
Today is every mathematicians' (and pie enthusiasts') favourite day!
and I have successfully convinced the staff to celebrate this glorious day
Why? Because 3, 1, and 4 are the three most significant figures of π, 3.14, in its decimal representation!
I have three (optional) mathy riddles that may be fun for you all to try -- don't worry, you don't need to have a degree in math to answer these!
1️⃣ Topics: Discrete mathematics, counting
OBC's magical librarian, Lemondrop, appears at your doorstep at 12 o'clock midnight, carrying a mysterious sack of books. Lemondrop has a riddle for you, and if you answer correctly, you will be rewarded with a book from her sack.
She asks you the following:
"I have 20 books in my sack. 10 have red covers, and 10 have black covers. Pulling out books at random, without looking in the bag, what is the minimum number of books you must pull out to ensure that you have taken out at least 2 red books?"
2️⃣ Topic: Mathematical/formal logic, truth-values
Jana is reading the book of the month with manouk, jnix, Vaude, and spicy at a coffee shop. Jana leaves her copy on the table and goes to order a yummy matcha latte! She later returns to the table with her drink and discovers that someone has taken her book. She questions all 4 staff members individually and received the following responses. Only one person is telling the truth, and everyone else is lying:
manouk: “Vaude did it.”
Vaude: “manouk is lying.”
spicy: “manouk did it.”
jnix: “It wasn’t me.”
Who stole Jana's book?
3️⃣ Topic: Elementary number theory
Ayesha, Abi, Cas, and Alex have a pile of books that they are trying to split evenly between the 4 of them.
Ayesha disperses all the books evenly between eachother, but there are 3 extra books left over.
Ayesha's mom calls her and asks her to come home. Ayesha does not take any books with her.
Abi, Cas, and Alex try to evenly split the pile of books between them, but there are 2 extra books left over.
Abi and Alex convince Cas that they can get all the books on Cas' kindle. Cas goes home empty handed.
Abi and Alex are left, and evenly split the pile between them, but there is one book left over!
How many books in total are in the pile?
Hint: ||
- Grouping the books into 4 piles has a remainder of 3
- Grouping the books into 3 piles has a remainder of 2
- Grouping the books into 2 piles has a remainder of 1||
Good luck! Feel free to ask for help, hints, or to have me check your answer!
Please use spoiler bars when answering to allow others to continue guessing!
For those of you who dislike math, here are some fun facts
- Pi has been studied by the human race for almost 4,000 years!
- "Pi Day” is celebrated on March 14 (which was chosen because it resembles 3.14). The official celebration begins at 1:59 p.m., to make an appropriate 3.14159 when combined with the date
- If you add an "e" to pi, it becomes delicious

is this ok jana
Excited to see your progress on the readathon

OF COURSE
THANK YOUUU
you angel
jesus

ok, I have two lists I want to clean up, my tbr-tbr and my dublin literary awards tbr. gonna work on my tbr-tbr first.
That’s the toughest one. I don’t want to clean my tbr
HAHA I know it can be painful, but one book is enough to complete the prompt :3 so no worries
I might do that anyway
Also Spicy that is the coolest shit I've ever seen
Your love of math makes my heart big
spicy the queen of maths
okay, not too bad. I do clean out my tbr often so these books I like really wanna read :3
my dublin lit award tbr list now
I‘m lowkey aiming to get it less than 10
Can I clean out my tbr by reading a book off of my tbr?
Hell yes
ive added an extra book to the readathon
bit optimistic about this schedule lool whoops

Compromise!
Love to see the organization tbh, it's really nice.
I'm gonna be going for a moodread kinda vibe, I need to look for a book with flowers though.
love the moodrread vibe tho!!!
quickest way to get rid of a book of ur tbr for sure
hoping to complete all these before end date
I'm definitely going to be reading To The Lighthouse, Pale Fire and Record of A Spaceborn Few because I need to finish them off for BRs
ooohhhh this is great LOL
okay spring cleaning prompt done :3
nobody told me there woul dbe math
ahahahaha it‘s not compulsory, don‘t worry :3
If you answer it i will be very happy and give you a kiss
If you answer it
i will be very happy
and give you a kiss
Can I answer in a silly fashion?
Yes!
I just got done lowering my TBR by 300 books..
good for you /gen
Red and black books ||2 and then give up||
Who donnit ||no one, Jana left it in the bathroom, she’s very forgetful||
How many books ||too many books and also not enough
||
this is lowkey something I would do
like genuinely
||Jana just becoming the Javert of books suddenly||
okay, I actually really want to answer the math questions but my brain is farting
Start with number one, it's the easiest
Think of ||the worst case scenario||, the answer lies there
||Jana from the bathroom||
Oh! I forgot, I'm reading some chunky books rn, is it fine to carry on with them for the readathon or do I need to start fresh
For number two, a truth value is assigning a sentence to be True or False!
(A truth value is literally just "True" or "False")
So just see which sentences work out together as true or false
magical librarian: ||because spicy said worst case scenario, I‘m going for 10 books that you need to pull out
||
jana‘s missing book: ||jnix, because her statement is the only one that is negative? (with the word wasn‘t)||
aaca and their books: ||IS THE ANSWER 11||
OMGGG
Ohh im interested in this
are they all Irish authors?
no I don‘t think so
RIP, I’ll check them all about anyway
let me know if anything catches your eye!! I lowkey want to do a buddy read of some of them
1️⃣ ❌
2️⃣ ✅ but incorrect reasoning
3️⃣ ✅
why did i see the word math
||can I ask you why jnix took my book
is it because she hates me||
Give me a few minutes to write it out!
It‘s pi-day too, so we wanted to celebrate with a bit of math! As a math hater, spicy‘s questions are actually really fun to do, I didn‘t feel like tearing out my hair /gen /pos
@void cedar you don't hate Jana right
/lh
I think she does
/ j
OF COURSE NOT
also, my ideal vacation is in Sarajevo or Kyoto. in Sarajevo I would visit loads of museums and just check out a lot of historical stuff, and get some books as I really like Bosnian literature. in Kyoto, I‘d go to the Arashimaya bamboo forest again, and just spend a few days chilling and walking around, visiting temples and other historic sites
I‘d be with anyone who wants to be with me
maybe with @inner trench
we can eat sushi together :3
Answer for question 2
||manouk is lying, so Vaude did not do it.
Vaude is telling the truth, enforcing that Vaude didn't do it.
spicy is lying, so manouk also didn't do it
jnix is lying: “It wasn’t me.” she says, so jnix did it
jnix is the cookie thief AND A LIAR
i.e. there are 4 statements, and only one can be correct. If any other statement other than Vaude's is correct, there would be contradictions which end up with multiple statements being correct. You can think of it as a rendition of "two truths one lie", where in this case there is one truth, three lies.||

- ||11||
I don't like feeling dumb 🥲
Guesses for the answers:
- || 12? Worst case: I pull out 10 black covers in a row first. Assuming I dont put a book back, then the next ones are red. ||
- || Manouk. They lied. Everyone else said the truth. ||
- || 11 - hey, another question where mod was part of the answer!:p ||
1️⃣ ✅
2️⃣ ❌
3️⃣ ✅

okay but why are they so big?
1️⃣ ✅
2️⃣ ❌ manouk's pronouns are they/them btw!
3️⃣ ✅
And for 2, there's 3 lies and one truth! You have it the other way around

Omg chat I'm so sorry
I realized that I missed some important information for question 2. I edited it to include "only 1 person is telling the truth, and everyone else is lying"
Oh no
- || 12 ||
- || Jnix ||
- || 11 or 23 or 35 or 47 or any infinite number of books in which the total falls in the previous series where the next value is the sum of the previous value and 12. ||

📗 Start and finish The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker (physical book)
this is so fun!! i took a break from work today so i'll hop in
You got all of them correct! Amazing work on Q3 as well!!! You are quadruple correct
Damn we got some hella mathematicians in obc

Readathon has begun! Starting Catch-22 for my book with a number in the title
Readathon officially started for me let’s goo! Finishing off this read then can start masters salt

My readathon starts in 8 mins! I'm not going to make a TBR this time, I might be too busy to get everything done so I don't want to disappoint future spicy
but I will start off with the BOTM!
Oh, I am sorry manouk!!
And: I should not try to solve anything at midnight, completely read over the "3 lies, 1 truth" thing:D
i’m not going to be able to use my checklist am i
she has disappeared into the void of messages
i’ll use it in my personal server
ahahaha, i send my readathon tbrs to my personal server too
It was my fault! I noticed recently that I left out the information about truth and lies! I added it in awhile after you tried to answer
I'm sorry
Ohhh I see. But still, I was so tired when I tried to answer. But my brain loves math riddles so I couldnt wait:D
And also, books I want to read:
Finish Our Share of Night (adults, join my br if you want to btw!!:D); and #1345300729702645781 & #1347476989375938571
And I want to take a trip to the bookstore to check out if they will get Sunrise on the Reaping next week. Combined with a spring walk outside :) and eat cake on my partners' birthday. Not really pie, but still.
And I once heard about "Mathematics for Human Flourishing" which has been on my tbr ever since but I never got to it.
glad imnot the only one do this haha ! i keep track of everything in my own place so handy
it’s so cute seeing how something I hate (math) can bring together people and make them happy
also, I spun a wheel last night before sleeping, and my first book of the readathon is beyond the door of no return by david diop.
I have always loved math somehow:D
As a child I "translated" numbers from decimal to binary to hexadecimal and was so fascinated by the fact that the decimal system isnt the only one we can use for numbers. Or trying to calculate as many prime numbers as I could. I was a weird 5 year old.:D
WOW
I did not even know about hexadecimal or primes when I was a child
Pauline future mathematician fr
My father enjoyed teaching me weird stuff haha he studied in a similar field:D
My cosy morning before work
already 10% in this book
Cute!!! The mug too 👀
Hehehehe early birthday gift

I'm going to get into bed and start on the BOTM
hoping to get a good chunk of pages through before I fall asleep
You got thisssss! I still not read botm yet either woopsies
Debating joining the readathon… might just set a 24hr TIMER**
go for it!
Cause I’m still too ill to work so might as well
i hope you feel better soon, i‘m sorry you‘re ill.
Haha thankyou its nothing major just a cough
I think I will try and finish:
- Both Flesh & Not by DFW
- Humble Pi by Matt Parker
And then pick some stuff off my shelf because I can’t remember what I’ve got on there tbh (maybe catch-22? Not sure)
@boreal silo
jaaaaannnaaaa
yes kauli my love bug?
thank you for hosting all the readathons
aww no worries, I‘m very glad to
jana my love is it also okay to clear out my physical TBR
of course!! I forgot to mention that if you don’t have a tbr on a bookish platform, a physical one is fine too
because it is technically linked to my tech one but doing it the other way would feel weird
I get it!!
okay thank you!!
For the second prompt will my cover of this be okay for the checklist as it has got a plant pot on the cover
or not really?
Double checking before adding it on

eh no I wouldn’t really count it, as it’s not flowers
thats fine wanted to check before adding it on checklist ! thank you love <33
will find something elsee for that prompt
YAY
I wanna get pie too but it’s not a big thing here, I don’t know where to get it from
I feel like Pie isn’t really a thing here. It is but idk not that common. Crumble tends to be the pick
My readathon started !! I will read ' The Vegetarian ' for the flowers on the cover, to clean my TBR, as a physical book ( so many birds with one stone -) and...because I'm on a trip and that's the only book I haven't finished 😉
Oh and I want to try and finish 'The painted Veil' ! Let's see how it goes ~
yay!!!
Never read such a SlowBurn of a book for a while took me 3 hours to reach 100 pgs my lord
I’m usually faster reader than this
Dang I hope your book gets somewhat more interesting

I’m stil aiming to finish mine off get it marked off my tbr
I’m stil aiming to
finish mine off get it marked
off my tbr
I hope the same for you!!
I read an essay from Both Flesh and Not then switched over to humble pi
Idk what page I’m on the page numbers are backwards
89? i think
I work a lot today so I can‘t really do a lot here, so I hope it‘s okay I did the read 3.14 hours prompt and shortened it to 31.4 minutes
I really wanted to participate but I unfortunately don‘t have more time today in particular
I did finish my book Strange Pictures by Uketsu tho in that time because otherwise I probably wouldn‘t have read at all today so I appreciate it
when i first read the prompt i thought it said 31 hours and 4 minutes
for jana
oh, you can use the entirety of the readathon for the pi prompts! (so, you don’t have to read for 3 hours & 14 minutes all in one day, if this makes sense)
you can read for 3 hours & 14 minutes over the whole week
oh!!!!!! that changes everything then
