I don't want to do this but I want to do this
Yay!!

We both know you will in fact, do it 😂😂
Yesss i ve been waiting !!
it's sunday
My favourite season in here 🍂 it's mad stormy and rainy in England at the moment, and I'm hoping I can FINALLY get out of a month-long reading slump to get into this, even a little bit
Vaude wanted to do the announcement but she's probably still a little busy! It's coming tho
Is waiting like puppies for a bingo
The fact I imiditently clicked in hope something came in

Welcome in everyone and thank you for your patience!
As Autumn if finally here, grab a hot drink, settle down by the fire and prepare to answer the question:
𝚃𝚛𝚒𝚌𝚔 𝚘𝚛 𝚃𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚝 🍬 ?
Rin and I have decided to offer up two cards this year, with very slightly different vibes
Rin will be providing the treats while I'll be here with the tricks 🪄
Both cards have been provided along with Storygraph challenge versions and some music to read to!
Q: Do I only do one card? Can I do both?
A: Absolutely! If you finish one card, feel free to do the other. We wanted to offer a lot of options for everyone this time around - if you only want to do one card, go for it. If you want to do both, you're more than welcome to. Some of the prompts are on both cards too!
You can also do them both at the same time if you're more comfortable doing that!
Q: How do I complete an OBC bingo card?
A:
One book per challenge and between the cards - I.e: 1 book for the prompt provided on 1 card, not for both, please.
Search for books from your TBR first to fit the prompts provided
Finishing a line, horizontal or vertical on card counts as a bingo
Update the bingo card one book at a time as you finish a challenge - great options to do this is Canva, Pixlr, Photoshop or even paint.
You can add only one book that you finish during the challenge but started reading before the bingo dates, all other books need to be started within the dates on the card
If anyone needs any clarification, feel free to ping either me or Rin!
Happy reading! 🦇

Sit back and enjoy the cool night air with this cozy autumn porch swing ambience featuring fall night sounds (crickets, crunchy falling leaves, owls hooting, wolves howling, and more!). Pour yourself a glass of hot cider and sit back and enjoy the crisp, cool night air as the crunchy leaves fall and dance around you.
This scene was actually in...
omg hi
YAY
hi whats this
Pretty pretty
A reading event! It's to help clear your TBR!

I AM SO HYPED
YAY!
can i do both cards at the same time?
Absolutely Jana!
I will start with rin and then do Vaude after.
okay yay!
And I will try fill them in raindow ordee in terms if covers
Let me add that to the Q and A
that sounds like a threat
but i know what you mean
Yeah too hard to choose from the two
wow this is brilliant
Rin and I had a lot of fun making these so we hope you guys like them
Thank you Rin for setting these up!!!

Can we use the same book on both cards?
You beat me to the question lmao
They look great!!
The goal would be to fill only one up and you can do the other one as an addition, so technically no
Ok Ty!
Yesss
you could switch bingo cards if you wanted but the point is really not having to fill both of them up! except if you're feeling very ambitious!!
This is so exciting!!! It will help aswell when I’m on my mini holiday
been waiting patiently for an autumn bingo event
Sorry about the wait, I overslept
I don’t know how I’m going choose!!
this will take some strategy but I’m up for it!
Lolol your good vaude! Sleep is good for mind
Oo this is so cool!
this time we gave you the choice instead of assigning :D
always fun to experiment with this event! mostly maca does all the work but this time vaude and i decided to do our spin
I have one book that’s been on my tbr for a prompt more than a year it’s been like four lmaoo will that still work for the prompt?
fall bingo 🔥🔥🔥
This is my fav time of year too, and I love both cards!
Absolutely!
slayyy! Thank you 🙏
i'm glad to hear it!!
Maca always does an amazing job, working so hard for the bingo event, so we hope we did her justice!
I think I know what card I’m doing
Awww! I’m sure you did Maca proud! The layout is stunning! 🤩
time to get prepping hehehe
can the <a classic> prompt be like a contemporary classic?
I'm so excited! I joined the Treat card!
it's open for interpretation! you can do whatever fits the classic category, so yes
I'm feeling ambitious
i'm doing that one as well
I’m doing trick card

Feeling that gym leader vibe right now
Those looks gorgeous
Yesss I’m so excited for this challenge!!!
I love how it lasts till December too so we’re it lasts till end of year which I’m thankful for the end date

oo this is gonna be so much fun
you killed it, i love the final designs 🤍🤍🤍
yayyyy I'm so excited for this
I started two audiobooks today that fit 2 of the prompts (family and classic)
Such a cozy challenge
I started one for the less than 300 today
These look so so lovely
Ok I’m confused what is this?
autumn bingo that staff kindly put for memebers ! so all you have to do pick any card that they created that you like the sound off and choose a book that sets the theme for that prompt!
I hope i explained it right mods
Is the middle square an anything goes square?
So any book could count for it?
i believe so maybe check with the mods but im sure it is
YOOOOOOO
I go for hyped up books with this prompt. Fourth Wing if you haven't read it?
I go for hyped up
books with this prompt. Fourth Wing if
you haven't read it?
Yep, I've read it and the sequel
Umm ... Idk, what's hyped up now? 😅
Yep! Free space!
Found family is still family
Great ty ^_^
Night explained it perfectly, it's just a fun game/event to tackle your TBR over the Autumn, you read the prompts and read books that match them to fill the spaces.
IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS
bingos always boost my reading stats cuz im so motivated lmao
Can I do both cards at the same time?
That's what I'm going to do as well so I hope so
"You can also do them both at the same time if you're more comfortable doing that!" - yep
Ty!
Powerless 👀🤭
Overachievers Unite!
Oop thank you vaude
was hoping I explained it right for them😭
oh awesome thank y'all and you too Night!
where can I find these cards?
in the pinned messages!
also on SG (links are also in the pinned message)
"A Cat" 😆
Welcome to the dark side
Yay! Welcome in! I hope you have fun!
I picked the Treat board
Just a question I had thought of before I go to sleep is this counting as a bingo aswell for the December challenge too? If there’s not a mini one for Christmas hehe
I‘m not sure what you mean, could you clarify?
Remember that it‘s supposed to be a little fun as well
So like if there’s not a mini Christmas bingo this one counts for the challenge? As this one ends in December
my brain goblin is hitting me so I’m trying to make sense 😭
I will have fun after I figure out which bingo tiles are the best for me and my TBR. For now I am a mad scientist 🧑🏻🔬
Organised book club
OrganizedBookClub
Oh!!
Organized Book Club - the server you‘re currently in
oops

I guess I’ve never seen it written short lmao
there's a first time for everything! :D
Now you have hehee
I was like googling it like damn another book term I don’t know
REAL
Omg that's so valid, I feel like that's something I would do

So this is just the Bingo for the whole duration of Fall (northern hemisphere, sorry to all my other people), if there is a Christmas event, it would be seperate (not sure if there is a specific one planned at this point?
) and after the Fall Bingo the Winter Bingo will start on the 21st/22nd Dec
I hope this answers your question!
Ooohhhh slayyyy!!! Thank you rin this explains it
you're welcome!!
Got my TBR done for the treat edition
I have 4 prompts still TBD for the trick edition but we'll see what I read in the bingo period that will fit for them
strategic!abi on the go as always
I have my tbr set up I just now need to fill my prompts in the gaps to fit which I can do tomorrow took me quiet a bit to get the layout I want to make it pretty have the same theme

scouring my tbr like
99 notifications, I'd cry
Lmfao I cba clearing them out effort
I always right click and choose "Mark as Read"
Ehm….. I may have finnished a prompt already…….
Dreams of Shreds abd Tatters for less than 300pages.
Honestly this was just a quick and easy horror book for me. Not sure if I recomend but was a nice breather for me
AWESOME!! I didn't know this existed!!!
I'm gonna choose Treat
1 down!
y'all are crazy
/pos
Finally finished the book I was putting off since august
Welp, more of my intended books fit the Trick card. So I’m starting there. 🎃
Love this!!
same actually, i was initially thinking of the treat card but the trick one might be easter
i might just read some mutual books and then see where the vibes take me
Whoever added Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party to the Trick challenge, that was my first thought too 💀
No way it s been like 5 hrs and several ppl already completed a prompt 😭 im crawling my way through rebecca 😭 hoping to get my classic out of the way
Can I fill out a prompt with a book I started reading before the challenge begun but finished after it started?
Ohh I’m on time!! That means IM ALL IN IM DOING THIS- ALL OF IT

ohh I’m doing the trick card w all the classics I’m reading
ohh I’m doing the
trick card w all the
classics I’m reading
I’ll mark mine as a spoiler for a few books because my first one contains a major spoiler for one of the https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1284532307948212284 books
Yes but only one!
Coolio!
this bingo is bringing back my motivation to read
i’ve finished 2 of the prompts and am now on my 3rd one, i think i will send in updates every 5 books i finish
Are there individuals threads for Trick/Treat or is it all gonna be in this one 😊 im super exciteeed! I’ve never filled a bingo card before and i don’t wanna put that kind of pressure on myself, but i’m hoping to get a few bingo lines at least!!
i blieve its all gonna be in one channel unless mods says otherwis about it ! welcome in!!
We decided on just using this thread, because we feared that one thread for each might make one more inactive than the other, which would be a shame - so feel free to share your updates here whenever
Great, thanks 😊 !
i’ve read too many books for this challenge today
Does that mean you completed half the prompts
no no not that much
i’m trying to chill out now
Oofie! Lool mood though this one is so exciting I don’t blame you if you wanna complete it already
I don't have SG but I submitted a BR for it since it's been on the TBR for a WHILE #br-requests message
i have a dilemma i'm not sure how to explain, so i've been using up the stuff-your-kindle-day books i bought to finish the bingo, but i like almost none of them, and it doesn't feel nice to put the books on there to finish up the prompts because they're so like shabbily written if that makes sense
like i don't want to be wasteful because i've already downloaded the books but like seeing the books on my bingo board just pisses me off LOL
can't you use other books for the prompts for this?
i can but i'd have to buy them
do you have any more classics on your tbr that would be available for free?
no to be honest i'm not a big classic person
big mood
it's okay i will just use these books
even though it hurts my soul
I feel this the classic prompt is gonna be hard for me as classics doesn’t always suit well with me😭
i'm reading a contemporary classic and not a classic classic for it
Ooohhh smart thinking
if you need something to choose from
ok i forgot how to do the thingy
square then circle I think

Omg thank you so much jana!!!
my progress so far! most of these skyd/ku books are very cosy and easy to read and i've been home all day
it's frightening how many prompts you've already done
i just got the ‘easy and cosy’ books out of the way and now moving onto bigger and harder books
they're all easy and cosy except for undiscovered, self portrait with nothing (might re-do this prompt because i genuinely hated the book) and persepolis
and also daddy long legs
that still means you've read 8/9 books in a day which is v impressive
that still means you've read
8/9 books in a day which
is v impressive
this is what bingos do to me
better than the movies for a cat
I'm feeling indecisive about which card to read. I think I will just do a few BRs and see where they fit on the cards and then go from there
Wish I was speedy enough to do both, the prompts are so good!

Progress so far!
I think imma interchange between the two and hopefully gets at least one done
I have such a hard time finding stuff day books I like 😭 I always find some that sound good but end up being awful lmao. Good on you for at least trying
Omg it’s been a day
me too!! sometimes i just pop in to see if maybe it'll be something on my tbr but it never is
I make a start
It's Xenos by Dan Abnett for Aliens. It's the first book in the #1275358247129321535 series and I absolutely loved it.
can we consider Game of Thrones a "family theme"?
it is an honest question, for that prompt I can only think of contemporary books, and I don't read those, so GoT is the closest I can think of, it does deal with loads of family drama and relationships, right...?
I absolutely think GoT has a theme of family
Oh no totally it 100% fits the prompt but it’s just funny to me bc when i think family themes my mind usually goes to like, cozy coming of age books or something and GoT is not that haha! But it s 100% family themed, pretty much all of the plot hinges on different families
I get it, I just wanted to explain further because I do know it is not the first book one might think of for this prompt
I like seeing all your prompts on Storygraph!
I guess I will work on both sheets, but without pressure. Maybe trying things out of my comfort zone, but mostly trying to shrink my tbr :)
Looking through the banned book list to pick the book for that prompt and I am just genuinely bewildered that some (most) of these books are on this list.
A kingdom of flesh and fire for part of a series.
And once again it was a book I wasnt that great fan of. But I promised myself I would read this entire series. So just 3 to go now
I'm doing a lot better with one card than the other but this is my progress so far!
I’m gonna be a very slow reader for this challenge but I’m hoping it will speed my reading too! Want to enjoy this one not rush it
I'm holding off on filling in my bingo cards. I read a book yesterday that fits a prompt on the Trick Edition card, but there's still plenty of time, so I don’t want to commit yet. I might read another book that I like more and decide to use that one instead 👀
But I’ve joined Storygraph challenges and am adding my books there - such a lovely initiative, my first bookish games I joined here
i hope you have fun intro
This makes sense! I'm adding the first book I read to the card but every book I read to the SG challenge. Seeing what everyone else adds on SG is good for inspo too
As we're back in here for bingos now are the conqueror roles coming back too?
i'm tracking which books to read for the bingos using a list
You can always change the book if you want to move the books around
Yes, we're discussing having potentially something extra alongside the conqueror roles!
ooh that sounds exciting
Yeah I know but my paint skills are 0 so I don't want to keep doing that
2 bingos!
im dumb whats a conqueror role
Oooh! Congrats!
ur on fireeee
not complete one yet lmaoo
just means you've finished the bingo
ohhhh
Bewitched- revenge story
Cujo for "Characters Travel by Plane" (and using my one chance for a book started juuust before the bingo started)
Jana did you bribe vaude because https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1281294504913145958 fills like 5 of the things on this card
Small beginnings ✨
ooo that reminds me, do short stories/novellas (like the ongoing Lovecraft ones) count? @gloomy owl @hasty vault
just noticed someone added The Rats in the Walls and I still have some I haven't read
Oh I haven't thought about it, I thought counts but if not I will start again, it's only the beginning anyways. Please lmk 💜
There‘s not a strict rule, generally, i‘d say it counts if it has been published as an individual book because that‘s usually a pretty decent amount of pages - But it‘s not as we‘ll be punishing someone for adding a short story every now and then tbh, I‘m just saying this so it stays somewhat fun and fair for everyone!
Thank you!
It‘s no problem, for the fun of the challenge, make sure not every prompt is a short story that‘s extremely short if that makes sense - I know a few stories are like 10-20 pages and that‘s maybe a bit too quick to achieve but we‘re not going to punish you or anything because you add one or two short ones ^^
Just wanted to check since I never did one of these
no problem!!
it‘s hard to define 'rules' because generally, we wanna make sure it‘s a fun challenge and everyone can tackle their TBR in their own way and there isn‘t really much to win or gain also but it should also give somewhat equal expectations for everyone, which leads to some wishy washy 'rules' :D
yes i did
/j
Do yall think a book SET in the 90’s can count for the 1990 square
or is it something released in the 90’s
Finished The Hemlock Queen
Absolutely! It's a broad prompt for interpretation
awesome haha
Thank you, it's totally fine, ofc I'm planning on including normal books. I'm reading another one actually and just happened to read Lovecraft and it just fit the prompt so I added that. And I'm definitely include one of Dune for part in a series prompt etc.
Thanks sm for the clarification 🩷
Found from OBC I was gonna add this to been on tbr for over a year. Then reliced I havnt been here for a year yet. So I had to look wrong at the year. And yes I had. But the book was GREAT. S.
Newest on tbr This book was what I was going to use for Read the world challange but I found another one for India. Yet this book was GREAT. And I will read the rest if the series. The imortals of Meluha
making great progress Avialia!
I meant to use Office Maxi as my Two Word Title, but around the 80% mark there was a scene that happened on October 3rd (I’m 100% sure it’s a Fullmetal Alchemist ref. based on the rest of the book) so I bumped it to ‘Set in Fall’ instead
mrs dalloway, for virginia woolf is an author for which i am thankful. and of course i have to do the trick card because it has a cat
i have a question for the characters travel by plane prompt. does it have to be explicitly mentioned in the book or can it be implied? implied as in oh i’m from (this country) but now i live in (this country) and the countries are far away enough from each other that there is no other sensible method of transportation other than flight? @gloomy owl @hasty vault
sorry if i’m not meant to ping!!!!!!
that‘s fine!
i’ve decided to re-do some of the prompts because i ended up not being able to cope with them
banned book: persepolis by marjane satrapi, banned in iran & lebanon
abrupt ending: east of the west by miroslav penkov
author you’re thankful for: the prince by kiera cass, she is the author who got me into reading as a hobby
less than 300 pages: undiscovered by gabriela wiener
a cat: vladivostok circus by elisa shua dusapin
obc buddy read: daddy long legs by jean webster (also, this book fits the classic prompt as well if anyone is struggling with it, it’s short and somewhat easy to breeze through.) https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1281294585309433949
orange cover: daughter of fire by sofia robleda
n-title: nostalgia by mircea cǎrtǎrescu
might re-do the alien prompt as well but i am not finding anything i might like
for the alien prompt i'm gonna do American Cosmic
that looks interesting
every time i look up alien on goodreads it is just alien romance
i think i will stick to fictional aliens and books, i don't think i can stomach the existential crisis of reading about nonfiction aliens
it's funny i cant think of as many fictional alien stories as i can nonfictional abduction stories
thats totally fair to be honest, from what i'm seeing on goodreads alien books (fiction) are either super good sci-fi novels or erotica
ooh i found this might pick it up
i liked his other book
the midnight library
lol i read one of the alien eroticas on accident once... it was strange. i didnt know what it was when i picked it up
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
i bet it was an out of this world experience
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/123063.Under_the_Skin?ref=nav_sb_ss_1_14 i think this one is about an alien
also, i don’t have any books that have been on my tbr for over a year
usually if i haven't picked it up by then i just yeet it off my list
ooo that looks cool
i think stephen king also has some books about aliens
i only remember under the dome and sleeping beauties
oh i watched under the dome the tv series... iirc it got boring and predictable
yepp!! it had me hooked for a while but i think it went on for too long, i much preferred sleeping beauties (no tv show but when talking about stephen king alien books)
i genuinely don’t have any books that have been on my tbr for over a year. so can i just pluck a random book from it?
I have books that have been waiting for 3 years on my shelf, you can read for me
I would love to
is it okay if you tell me some of the titles?
Oh god where do I even start. The Island of Missing Trees, Maps of Our Spectacular Bodies, In Memoriam, Old Babes in the Wood, The Starless Sea, Time is a Mother, The Guest, The Virgin Suicides, A Gentleman in Moscow, The Lincoln Highway, Cursed Bunny, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. A few I am looking at rn, maybe something will suit you
oh my days the island of missing trees, in memoriam, the virgin suicides are so good
i want to read a gentleman in moscow as well
and also who wrote the guest?
Emma Cline
I actually wanted to use A Gentleman in Moscow for this bingo prompt since it's over a year on my shelf already
ooh i read that!! it’s good
ooo can you let me know what you think about it if you do read it?
ooo can you let me
know what you think about it
if you do read it?
Ofc, just not sure when I will read it, maybe November
I try to tackle one that has been on my shelf for around 10 years :D maybe this time. Maaaaaybe. (Aunt Julia and the scriptwriter - Vargas Llosa)
That is a respectable number
Back then a collection of "the 20 best romance novels" was published by a newspaper. Special editions, when you own them all, they look like a rainbow. I read a few of them and loved them. And then I tried to buy them all, without checking the blurb. And.. at least one of them is still on my shelf, looking nice, unread ever since.:D
omg that’s so cute
Bespelled- academic setting
Probably won't be able to finish all prompts by the end of Autumn, but I'll see how far I can come🫡
• The fisherman - shortbook
• Kill creek - characters travel by plane
aliens: charlie and the great glass elevator by roald dahl
academic setting: dead poets society by n.h. kleinbaum
characters have to take a flight: the coin by yasmin zaher
magic or witches: salem witch trials by hourly history
classic: max havelaar, or the coffee auctions of the dutch trading company by multatuli / edouard douwes dekker
Treat
a philosophical read - Das Glücksdiktat by Eva Illouz
discovered in OBC - Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray
Trick
short book - The Woman in me by Britney Spears
published after 2010 - Radikale Zärtlichkeit by Şeyda Kurt
3/4 non-fiction, which is unusual for me. Working on "Mrs Dalloway", though I am not sure if it will be a classic or a BR :)
• A lonely broadcast by Kel Byron - An author you're thankful for
Gotta apperciate horror authors who write books based off of Reddit NoSleep stories🙏 Can't wait for book 2!
https://discord.com/channels/811077227449286667/1284534461483978864 for "short book <300 pages"
** On TBR for more than a year** Yellowface
OBC Buddy Read and my one book started before the Bingo: Rebecca
Woa everyone is zooming along!!! So impressive
I'm still on Book No1
Same lmfao your not only one 😭
I have 2 and on my 3rd
But a lot of time today, a day off tomorrow and the whole weekend so I will get a few done, I already know what I want to read, I am motivated
OBC buddy read I mean this is a great series. girl from the other side volume 9
abrupt ending: white rabbit by lana bastašić
i actually wanted to use this for expected 5 star read on the treat card instead of re-doing the prompt but the ending ||literally was the middle of a spoken sentence ||so i think it is more deserving of the abrupt ending prompt
published in october: his black tongue by mitchell lüthi. pretty good
Okay I have 2 dilemma lmao, so for trick edition prompt night in the title
Can this work? No idea what it’s about mind lol and my user name is nightshade too
yep that 100% works because the word night is in it
my book has 'nightmare' in the title
I hope you enjoy it!
thank you! i just saw it randomlyy on goodreads was like i swear this is part of one of the prompts lool
Oh smart. It actually does not say it has to have a word night just night in the title. Edit: I found something I wanted to read with a word ‘nightmare’ in it, you helped me
Lolol
Some short stories
• The tell-tale heart by Edgar Allan Poe - an author everyone has read but you
• The call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft - aliens
• Pickman's model by H.P. Lovecraft - Published in October
Would Bunny be a good read for 'set in the Fall'?
bunny by mona awad?
Yess
i would think so yeah
Thank you☺️
nothing like the movies for title starting with n
been on your tbr for over a year: brutes by dizz tate
I done my first prompt !!!
OBC Buddy Read **
invisible life of Addie Larue
445 pgs
A classic This book wasnt good. But The adventures of Huckleberry Finn
The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski - 1990s (also counts as the book I was reading before the bingo started!)
Witches or Magic - The Girl From the Other Side (Siuil a Ruin) Omnibus 3/Vol. 7-9
been on your tbr for over a year: nobody, somebody, anybody by kelly mcclorey
i know i said i didn’t have a book that’s been on my tbr for a year but i genuinely forgot about this, i got this book like 2-3 years ago and have now just finished it
discovered on obc: the sellout by paul beatty
Read weapped in a blanket Princess in practise This is also to finnish this series
Leaves on the cover Emily Wilde’s map of otherlands This is also a current br going on
<@&811077893295570986> How can I view the card like this?
If you look in the pinned messages, we have the blank cards ready!
#1286613978868482058 message
well, I've already started adding the books I've read in the webiste, I just don't know how to add cards ❤️
you can use canva
see i'm adding the prompts, I just can't figure out how to get the books to the card
ohhhhhh I gotcha. It's not a thing THROUGH story graphhh
no worries!
After struggling with Paint for a long time, finally I am here. Also firstly I put Mexican Gothic in "Two word title" prompt then realised it has been on my TBR since May 13, 2023 and changed my concept and fixing it in Paint took me another 10min after, I am so bad
Anyway, I will decide later on swapping and switching when I finish more books
Witches or Magic - The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Mandanna, Sangu
A Classic - Daddy-Long-Legs by Webster, Jean
Been On Your TBR For Over A Year - Mexican Gothic by Moreno-Garcia, Silvia
yayyy daddy long legs!
canva is pretty easy to use
Yeah I think I will look into it later, I saw the name popped here several times already 👀
Crown of Midnight- "Night" in the title

It's a good idea! Way to adapt
second book for the prompt "abrupt ending" is Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol. the first volume of a trilogy, Gogol burned the manuscript to the second volume and subsequently died before completing any more of the story. recovered notes for the 2nd part end literally mid-sentence, mid-speech.
hey if you want, i can help you put the books on the bingo card

Howls moving castle for witches or magic
Coraline by Neil Gaimon for A Short Book ( <300 pages ).

Beka Lamb for the short book and Little eyes for the most recent book on my TBR (I literally added/ bought it last week)
Finished Golden Pot by E.T.A Hoffmann for the read for the cover prompt, and starting Fathers and Sons for Family Theme
the little prince for characters travel by plane
What did you think?? I’d read this a long time ago and really liked it
What did you think?? I’d
read this a long time ago
and really liked it
yeah i liked it, i thought the way it was written was clever. it's a very complex narrative and for being such a short book i did struggle to follow it. i had to check a synopsis afterward and read a bit of analysis to understand the relation to dante's inferno (i haven't read it yet) but it was pretty good. i rated it 4 stars
I love Camus
I gotta reread The Fall soon
I also kept journal entries I wrote when I first read the fall so that’d be interesting to revisit
Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance for family theme
Animal Farm by George Orwell for "Two Word Title"
published in september: what you are looking for is in the library by michiko aoyama
the only good thing about this book was the illustrations
read for the cover: delta of venus by anaïs nin
i don’t particularly love the cover but it was the only reason why i added the book to my tbr, so
Finished Rising Storm
just to be sure does the book for a philosophical read have to be a book under the philosophy genre?
Not necessarily! It can mention philosophy or even a be a fictional work that explores aspects of philosophy!
would #1279353374419976192 count?
Finished 'Our Wives Under the Sea' !
Heir of Fire- protagonist isn't human
leaves on cover: in the presence of absence by mahmoud darwish
poetry book or a novel in verse: the spiritual poems of rumi by rumi
• Road of Bones by Christopher Golden - published after 2010
So yeah Canva is the app for me for sure, thank you all for the recommendation
Updated Trick card and finished 2 books for Treat Edition
*The Fall *by Albert Camus - a philosophical read
The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith - a mystery novel
Funny enough I actually don't want to go for that column, firstly just wanted to go for that 2 row in Treat Edition Mr Ripley is just there randomly alone
Children of Dune for family theme (
) The Lies of Locke Lamora for a book on my TBR for over a year, and Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands for an author I'm thankful for
Did you like The lies of locke lamora
its another of those series that are on my tbr but i havnt picked up because i dont want to start unfinished book series
I actually did. I was kind of burnt out on long fantasy books and I thought I wasn't going to like it at all, but it was really good. I think it was a lot different from other fantasy series I've read lately, less magic and more scheming/plotting. It was really well-written. It is long af, so beware, and there's multiple timelines, but they're clearly marked, if that makes sense. It is an unfinished series too, I think it's been like 7 years since the last one, and it's also a dude fest, so those would be my warnings about picking it up
It’s been a decade and Lynch plans to release three novellas first (which are supposedly finished and ‘waiting for the publisher’)
At least he’s still writing!
im just very wary when it comes to unfinished fantasy sagas that havent gotten a new instalment in 5+ years
Yeah completely understandable
I who have never known men - 1990
The tatami galaxy - read wrapped up in a blanket and desperately trying not to fall asleep
for "a short book" i have The Virgin Suicides weighing in at 250 pages.
Wait, was that good? The children of Dune? I have Dune 1 on my tBR since the movie originally came out. and I didn't find out it was a series till this server 😂 So is it good?
Ummmm it’s an experience. Many in this server would argue it is not good, and it does have some serious subjects. It can be a little dense. I think it’s a very good book and a classic scifi series. There’s actually 22 books so far in the extended universe, but most people just read the original trilogy, which finishes with Children of Dune
Oh my word that’s a long series!! I’ll try it out and see if I like it! Thanks for your input!
Only 5 of the books were written by Frank Herbert, the rest were written by his son Brian and Kevin J. Anderson
Hmm that’s cool! I wonder how their writing styles differ
Pigesind for poetry book
I didnt not like the book but I really got reminded that I'm not a fan of poetry for some reason it just seems to not stick in my brain
Also this is the first non br book I have read since January
tove ditlevsen!!
Does this count as leaves on the cover? I am genuinely not sure if those are leaves 😂
looks like leaves 2 me!
yep, it's a tree so it should be leaves
Oh I meant the pattern on the blue background and only now I realised there is a window and trees lol
hahahaha
I love how we were both wrong
my father's eyes, my mother's rage by Rose Brik for "Published after 2010"
Thanks for posting, this books looks right up my alley! Did you like it?
I did! It's a little heavy but as far as poetry goes I really enjoyed it
I like the theme and I think I'll appreciate it. It also fits the "poetry" prompt in the "Treat" card
i personally don’t see leaves
but but i’m not an admin so don’t take my word!!
honestly all good, I can fit it into other categories!!
there :D
• The Turn of the Screw by Henry James - orange cover
Lowkey wanna rewatch The haunting of Bly manor now
I love bly manor 😍

The Assassin's Blade- author you're thankful for
Same with The haunting of hill house
Loved both series
They were both so good! I aslo love the fall of the house of Usher, it was amazing
I honestly need to give the house of usher another chance. I watched the first episode a while ago but it didn't really speak to me, but I have heard so many good reviews about it, so I'll maybe give it another go this Autumn👀
I'm a fan of Mike Flanagan
It's one of my favorites!
Sameee

What book would work for 1990? I’m struggling to find something for that prompt
#1286815879191068834
i’m hoping to do something that was published in the 1990s or takes place in the 1990s but i don’t have a book for that prompt yet either to be honest
dang that one is hard to find I’m the same I’m hoping a setting of a book is set in that date that would work but not come across to any
also #1281155066518175776 was published in the 90s
i finally found a book! lol
That was quick lmfaoo
I have Mysterious Skin on my tbr which was both pubished and partially set in the 90s but... not exactly a light read
Oh dang 😭that’s what I’m terrified off books being set in 90s and I’m not gonna enjoy it
i’m doing a challenge where i try to read books from all the countries in the world and so that’s like about 100~ books so just had to dip through the countries i’ve curated books for and see which one is published in 1990s loool
i think you are mainly a romance reader, i can try and look for some romance novels set in the 1990s or published then if you would like
Omg yes pleaseeee!! You know me so well now

@crude elbow i have found this this set in 1997 in autumn, small town single dad romance

I DNF'd Mater 2-10 that I planned for the family theme, so I think I'll go for #1287677824660017214 since one of the BR questions talked about siblings.

read wrapped up in a blanket
renegrade
577 pgs gave this one 3 stars!
Trick edition it is 🤍
Tomorrow x 3 for an abrupt ending, some may disagree but as much as I loved this book, the characters drove me insane, at different periods so I was pissed at someone all the time. Still loved it, gave it 5 stars and recommend the book, they felt so real and also annoying with the lack of communication and feelings ugh. The ending to me felt abrupt because it wasnt a proper happy ending, just life moving on and nothing you can do about it. So well done and still annoying when I think about them and what the rest of their lives will be like out of the book. They genuinely give me a headache when I think back, like that friend that just doesnt take advice and checks in once in a while to frustrate you.
Diavola for a revenge story tho if I dont read a Stephen King book, it will get moved to the Halloween prompt, but lets see
The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket for a book published in September
My progress so far! (Solo Dance is my current read and I don't plan to DNF, I'll update my card if I do)
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy as my Read Wrapped Up In A Blanket
If I can’t find a philosophical read, I might push it to that
If I can’t find a

Parable of the Sower for OBC buddy read.
for the free space i have Exhalation!
For some reason I like seeing same books being used for different prompts. For example I used Bloom by Delilah Dawson for queer protagonist but you can also use it for published in October, leaves on the cover etc.
Fourth Wing for 'An author "everyone" has read but you'
this is how I'm looking atm but let's see what I can read today
I have a couple of BRs that I want to finish that work for a couple of the prompts
Flight or Fright- characters travel by plane
• Coraline by Neil Gaiman - Halloween
Been on your tbr for over a year - Long Live the Pumpkin Queen
The Chosen and the Beautiful for leaves on the cover
Castle in the Air for 1990s (published in 1990, conveniently)
i made a minor change: i moved Exhalation to an OBC buddy read and then added my most recently finished book, The Girl Next Door, to the Free Space. if it's not allowed i can change it back
also lol given how dark all the books are on my bingo card, mrs dalloway sticks out like a sore thumb.
you can choose wherever you want to put your books and you're allowed to move them however you like too to best suit you ❤️
Are unofficial BRs/threads counting as "OBC buddy read"? Asking particularly about #1290824388752572457 (also an ad if someone wants to join we read it in November

Yeah, I hope that’s okay
if not I will re-do
The book that's been on your tbr the longest that you still feel like you actually want to read / free space: A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
noo its fine im just impressed
Also @gritty oxide sorry for the ping but do you mind giving me another prompt for the other free space
I am also doing both at the same time, only 10 times slower
Yayy go Intro!!
Do yo have a backlog of books you own that's on your tbr or are you going out and buying them/loaning from a library?
I have only 2 books left on my physical TBR but like 20-ish on my Kindle TBR, I usually buy unless they have it on Kindle Unlimited
Also the physical books I‘ll be using for the other prompts that I haven’t finished yet
I don't think I will finish any card fully. There are just prompts I am not into really (e.g. sweet as candy romance) and since it is primarily to have books from your TBR read, not adding more I don't think I will go for them
Unless I wake up at the beginning of December and decide I have time and nothing else to do with my life
Hmmm, ask OBC for some of their favorite books and pick one.
Ooh I was stuck on that prompt too, but I forgot I was a romance girly last year and had some unread Elsie Silver
OOOO thank you that's a good one
Share your fav book too
as a candidate /lh

/J

Question, if I‘m reading a non-fiction collection of essays and one of the essays is written by and speaks about a person‘s experience and she is around my age, does that count for the Protagonist is around your age prompt? Or does it have to be a fictional protagonist? Thank you in advance
Jana just wanting to demolish this bingo asap

I'd say sign up for more reading challenges on SG but I can't remember if you're on there or not
I already did, I joined a very cosy autumn bingo

i feel like im playing a different challenge: how many books can i get on my card without a bingo
I played that for a looooong time
Progress now
@crude elbow , sorry for the ping. I'm trying to sort out my bingo card. Would you say Clean is a mystery book?
It kinda is
albeit a weak one, i would regard it more as a psychological fiction
p.s: nah you can ping me freely
Thank you! Since I don't have another book close to the mystery genre, I'm gonna use this one.
My progress so far. I added Undiscovered- Gabriela Wiener for "Discovered on OBC".

I have some books that fit on either card idk which to start with
I love the purple but I also love the cozy treat card
I just picked one at random and committed to the bit
Nice
Blood Meridian for expected 5 star read. Unfortunately, it was only a 4 star for me
Maybe a bit of a stretch, but Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee for academic setting.
daddy long legs - discovered in obc
almond - a book that has been on my tbr for a long time
the shining - a recent book on my br
tales from the cafe - multiple timelines
i who have never known men - a philosophical read
had a hard time deciding whether to go for the trick ver or treat ver but am gonna stick with this one now. (might rearrange the books tho)
what are you gonna read next - a banned book or a revenge story?
haha i actually haven't been going by the prompts at all! i just slapped together a random TBR for october based on spooky stuff and have been slotting them in where they fit
I do it too until I get stuck and I have to rearrange lol
Luckily I was forethinking (?)enough to save Hallowe’en for Halloween
hah that is a convenient one
same!!! but sometimes specifications like published month stump me cause i normally dont go checking that or whether a book was banned somewhere
yeah i dont know if i even have any banned books in my tbr honestly
Oh you probably do
Yeah fair. Theres prob a wiki page too
The Great Gatsby was apparently banned by a university in 2008, so I’ll prob use that
Sorry 1987
what is the reason listed for the ban
Sexual content, violence, illicit activities, and profanity
ridiculous
You know the good stuff
“The words "got done", "slender, small breasted", and "erect carriage" were particularly pointed out.” Stooooop
Dang don’t be talking about that erect carriage around here
careful this isnt the adult channel

did you read bloom?
i used it for queer protagonist😭
i‘m looking up books for this and fighting the urge to request a br for all of them
okay so i‘ve read ‘the maid’ by nina prose, it‘s more mystery and not thriller but the romance is really sweet
‘rainbow black’ by maggie thrash is another one with romance in it, gay and is a little bit about the satanic panic
Could someone tell me if Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin book fits "abrupt ending" prompt?

You totally should, Autumn Bingo is really boosting my reading
You totally should,
Autumn Bingo is really
boosting my reading
I love the prompts! It was hard picking a card, but knowing myself I'll probably try to do both in the end 🤣
I'm doing both but I know I won't fully finish either, lol. Already planned more or less what I could read and for which prompt, my physical TBR finally is happy seeing me coming back to it after some long months of waiting
Oh, no way I'm reading 50 books by the end of the challenge, but hitting a bingo or two on both cards shouldn't be a problem. 😁
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland / Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll - Banned book
Reread of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland but first time reading Through the Looking-Glass and the former is better imo. Also hilarious reason for banning this one
Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator for >300 pages, and The Shining for author i’m thankful for
The Goldfinch for Published in September, Mrs. Dalloway for Expected 5 Star Read
Not quite finished Mrs. D but will have a bingo by tomorrow!
Solaris - obc br
Was Tales from the cafe worth the read?
||well, it has the same structure as the first book. the stories have an emotional punch to it given the premise of the book, but it was a little repetitive with the rules (like 10x in 200 pages) and visitors going over the history of the cafe. i think i like the first one better. this was a 3 ⭐ for me.||
Okok. So not a buy but a borrow?
loll i cant decide for you - its ur money
ig you can borrow this one and see if u wanna buy the rest of the books in the series
book #5 came out this year!!
Nono, it was ment as an. Ok got it.
I found that usually nr 2 and on isnt worth it for me in these series
The Miserable Mill by Lemony Snicket for part of series
for a classic, i have The Tenant
"Clytemnestra" for Leaves on cover
Stealing "The Maid" rec for sweet romance, I totally wanted to skip this prompt but this book sounds different. Will see if I can manage to fill up whole Treat Bingo Card first and pick this up later in a month or something
hell yeah!! it‘s more of a cosy mystery to be honest, but the romance is there without being too overpowering :3 would love to know what you think about it intro
My progress so far:
- Family theme: #1287677824660017214 - Read for the cover: Summerwater- Sarah Moss

A few updates
I've got:
Brave New World by Aidous Huxley for Banned Book - It's a tough call on whether this is my favourite dystopian novel or 1984. I feel like this book is massively important to read especially in our current climate. This book has been banned in multiple states alongside Ireland, India and Australia on first release.
The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix for Author You're Thankful For. I adore this man; he's one of my favourite contemporary horror authors. You can really tell that he loves what he writes - I also love how he writes women.
My Annihilation by Fuminori Nakimara for Book <300 Pages. It's 264 pages and has been on my radar for ages alongside The Rope Artist by the same author. Very dark and uncomfortable; had to sit with it for a little while but really found it as something unique and remarkable.
jorjorwel
Captain Vorpatril's Alliance by Lois McMaster Bujold for author I'm thankful for. I really like her Vorkosagan Saga series and am looking forwards to trying out her other series after I'm done with this one.
The Austere Academy by Lemony Snicket for academic setting
• Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq - Indigenous author
• Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica - been on your tbr for over a year

question ,, if i start now, would i be able to add any books i've already read for this spooky month?
yeah! any books you've started reading from 22nd Sept onwards counts towards the bingo
omg thats so great, thank you!!!
i kinda have book that'd fit the 'protagonist isnt a human' prompt, but itd be a spoiler for the book
I mainly read beta reads that don't have a cover and I don't like to give out a title, but they're full books. Can I add those and if yes then how without a cover?
I had that happen with mine for that prompt. Since it was for an OBC read, I just spoilered the card and prompt for a few updates
oh thats a great idea !! thank you :)
ive actually managed to fit that particular book into another prompt, but ill absolutely keep that in mind
the start of my lil bingo card - hopefully i manage to keep it updated
hallowe'en party for halloween. bingo!
Oh, we can do that! Thanks for this info, I just finished my book, but I'll update my card with all the books I finished since the challenge started.
#1286613978868482058 message they explained it here
pre-release book for author/publisher feedback
Oh yeah sorry just saw this haha. Usually a beta read is done after self edits, but before you hire an editor. You basically just read the manuscript on your computer while leaving comments and then you write up a reader's report detailing how you felt about different parts like the plot, characters, dialog. You're mostly looking for things like plot holes or things that don't sound right like the character acting inconsistently.
is that like your job? Thats so freaking cool tho
It is yes! You make nowhere near what an editor makes, but it's less technical and I just get to nerd out about the story so it's a ton of fun.
thats amazing
do u also pick the book up after publishing to see what changed and what was the final product?
I wish I could, but I'd never have the time. I'm absolutely swamped like I finish a book ever 2-3 days right now. I do check back on the ones I really enjoyed occasionally though so see if they're up on Goodreads and Amazon so I can leave a review.
Not yet! I haven't used it in forever I'll have to do it later 😄
ping me when you do id love to check your reviews
I will!
