To follow on from what Nostalgia said. They don't just do game announcement posts. Those are for things like before and after tests and releases,or things really important like monetisation. They do however ask some of our questions on a monthly basis in #❓│old-team-answers-alpha and give us a a reveal or two or some concept art each week in #🌠│official-art. Those can still be classed as updates about the game, just not 'when can I play' type updates 🙂 But, hopefully more tests coming soon, we are expecting more during this year we just don't know when. That #📢│palia-news channel will be where that sort of information will surface.

They announce tests when they start posting invites. So, all we can do is wait. They did say there would be more tests this year, so that's an ongoing announcement so to speak. Release date will be a while yet as they are still in alpha testing 🙂 But again, that would be in #📢│palia-news. 🙂

When the server started we knew there was a pre-alpha imminent from day 1 .. it happened July/August 2021.
We were then given a post in October 2021 #❓│old-team-answers-alpha that alpha was hopefully happening in the first half of 2022. Link: #❓│old-team-answers-alpha message
After the alpha invites were sent out, it was mentioned in #📢│palia-news in February 2022 that there would be more tests this year Link: #📢│palia-news message

So, beta may have a bit of notice with a lengthy time frame line October mention for first half of the following year for alpha. But the individual tests may be surprised on us or maybe with a week or so notice.

At the moment we have only been shown what appears to be male/female npcs. But it won't affect any relationship you may have with them. But these npcs are only a handful of what I suspect will be a growing population as the game grows. If you haven't already, we do have #game-suggestions if you want to make that a suggestion for future npc choices.

My apologies - just noticed you were talking about players rather than npcs.
In that case, seeing as you do not pick any gender and non-binary is a gender identity, then you can express your character how you like.

The island Sanctuary is going to be a welcome thing for FFXIV, not taking anything from that. But it's still a combat based mmorpg, just like Lost Ark also had a sanctuary island to build on. It's like a game with a mini game, rather than it's own thing. Left to see how Square Enix handles their timegates etc ofc

Since FFXIV is paid and Palia is free, people might love the Island Sanctuary but want a more permanent setting and move over. I'm playing FFXIV right now but I know I don't play it for the same reason I'd play Palia, or the sims, stardew, raft etc.

I don't think it competes in the genre, only competes for personal time

I usually spend around 70 dollary doos with no features... I am too prone to falling asleep on them drunk and then them bending in funny positions. I remember once I broke two pairs in quick succession, and thought "bugger it" and jammed a cocktail stick end in place of where the arm screw should be and superglued it, and went around with bent gluey glasses.

Yeah, that's where I got the idea that the eventual goal is a world wide land scape and not just a small area around a handful of towns. With the game hoping to last years or decades to come, they may have scheduled major changes in to fit that schedule and less major changes in between and minor changes in between those.
