The best NPCs I had in a game were probably those in Animal Crossing. At times, it seemed like they almost "knew" me. So I think seeing them over and over, and them adapting to whatever was going on and not always have the same 2-4 lines of dialogue. Something about them felt like family...even though they were just NPCs

Obviously Fippy Darkpaw, he was one of the most helpful GMs during the early testing days of Everquest and was immortalized as an npc who pointlessly charges into his own death over and over. I LOVED Malady from DOSII - She was such a snarky, mysterious, but heartfelt character. By the end I was so happy she was genuinely on my side.

Also Sir Lora. He added a lot of just nonsensical, but sensical lore to the game that if you managed to keep him alive the entire game... the emotional attachment really paid off at the end ❤️
