I 100% cherry pick, because I can't respond to everything and especially a lot of comments say the same sentiments. And some say it in much more constructive ways than others. Look at the history - for example, I respond a lot to Kresjah because, while being very very critical, are clearly trying to make sure we understand their perspectives. I can't say the same for all comments here - there's a lot of memeing on mistakes we're making which, while maybe fun for some, are not very constructive and I won't respond to.

As a human being, I imagine you like your concerns to be properly heard and addressed right?
Also, in a creative setting I imagine you would also like to provide ideas and have those ideas potentially be added to the game.

Players are mostly upset because:
1.) [S6] is notoriously bad for laying off their CM's and not acknowledging player concerns in a timely manner until discord blows up with criticism and negativity like you see right now.

2.) [S6] there is a place we can leave feedback for ideas/improvements, but it is very much a one-way window and players don't have any idea of knowing if their feedback is actually read by a real person. It's wildly speculated that S6 just adds whatever they feel like to Palia with no player input at all, but that speculation is seeming more true with every update. S6 is especially skewed towards adding content that involves the cash shop and that's not even an opinion but just straight up fact.

3.) There are numerous accessibility issues for players with conditions/disabilities that have persisted for months or years. Players are concerned because this alienates and entire demographic of the community and S6 appears to be very slow in acting on it.

I hope this helps put our views into perspective.

And it explains how things looks to people, both patch wise and optics on the company. I can also ask if it's okay to relay some of the reactions I got when talking about it with others too.

As you've probably noticed today, I'm very much the same. I do remain mindful of how I articulate concerns, but I am pretty blunt in how I express myself. Moving forward I think it might be advantagious to be a little more open about little things. It's perfectly fine to say "I don't know" sometimes, and I do feel it would spare you a lot of grief if that were a part of how the team communicates with us. Acknowledgement can go a long way. It's certainly eased some of my concerns today, at least for now. We like hearing that you're working on certain things, even when you can't necessarily give us a definitive timeline. I think a lot of the frustration being felt is due to being left to wonder whether or not things are even being noticed. Looking forward to the return of CMs to help with this. The communication has broken down, and while I understand you can't always tell us everything, it's just nice to know we're being heard on occasion. We miss that connective tissue between us and S6. It's causing a lot of tension.

I know you're kind of swamped with all the discussion taking place so feel free to take your time with these questions- just ping me when you respond please

1. What measures, if any, will be taken to compensate players who purchased the zeki thing if they can't log in due to extended maint/gamebreaking issues/etc (read: cannot log in due to issues on S6's end, not on their end)
2. Related to the first point, will there be any consideration to add some level of "leeway" in future updates? Something like "pass gives up to 30 days' logins worth of coins, but lasts for 40 days"
3. Related to the discussion above, I saw you just responded to the whole multi-platform issue, and reassured us that anyone requesting a refund due to this will get it.... that being said, I would urge you to pay close attention to feedback/volume of support tickets requesting refunds for the time being. If too many people are requesting refunds, it means that the platform limitations are not being explained properly, and the system should absolutely be re-evaluated as a whole

1)We've had very few downtimes of more than a few hours - maybe 2 or 3 in the last 9 months? So I'm not overly concerned. But happy to give everyone the coins they could have gotten in the event of an extended downtime. And we've also built the one day grace period to make things a little bit more forgiving.
2) the every other day thing is our version of leeway that we thought was best
3) absolutely. the ticket volume is a huge indicator of priorities for us. More tickets means it's affect more people (in some cases)

It’s frustrating to me, as an industry vet, to constantly see people angry that a dev team works on money items…for a game that is provided free, with no monthly fee attached, yet costs the developer money to host, maintain, and continue developing.

Of course they’re going to keep producing items to make money. They have to do that to keep the servers on and pay the people who are trying to fix the bugs (which isn’t at all a straightforward process, y’all).

I understand being upset, and I understand that without personal experience of how this stuff works from the inside the optics may be weird, but it’s so bafflingly counterproductive to constantly bash on the people who are trying to provide the entertainment you’re asking for.

It's not that they're making money stuff that's the issue, really. People know they need cashflow. It's more-so that there's so much focus on the cash shop, with little movement on the actual game. When every patch feels like there's more cash shop stuff than there is anything else, it starts to get tired. There's also the issue of the cash shop entirely paywalling fashion, but I hope that one day that will eventually change. /gen

The team making money items is not necessarily the same group of people bashing bugs. Mostly it won’t be, since those items are art assets and bug bashing involves QA and coders. So saying they’re focusing on cash items over bugs is like complaining that your pharmacist won’t perform surgery for you because they’re too busy handing out pills. 🤷‍♀️

The Dec update trailer showed three (white, a new light blue and white, and a purple), and we know there are several other palettes via Home Tour leaks. Honestly I've adopted a kind of casual playstyle with Palia, I play for a few weeks or so and then take a break for a while. Then play again, on and off. Keeps it more exciting for me, I feel like some people's issue is they play nothing else and.. inevitably run into the problem that the game is still being built up. Burnout is a thing that can happen with video games, too. It's not 100% just a burnout thing, obviously, but I feel like that contributes a lot to the issue.

I do absolutely understand where people are coming from with the premium shop though, I think a better balance of things in the shop and things that are possible to get from in game content would be awesome. Then people who want to spend money can, and people who either don't want to or can't still feel like they get cool stuff as well.

@narrow narwhal So, these were my live reactions to my Palia pals yesterday after reading the blog post and the viewing the trailer. There were some words I have had to censor to make it safe here, but otherwise I'm keeping this close to what I wrote yesterday. There are a couple of issues that have been addressed since I wrote this: particularly that we have one-day grace period on the subscription thing, which while better is still awful in my opinion, and that people did spot hotpot tables in the trailer. Still leaving it as I wrote it, including my remark about pushing you, for transparency and honesty. I am posting it here in public partially for the sake of holding you and me both responsible as well.

One thing that is important about the tint thing: That is not datamining. This info comes from a completely public portfolio that anyone has access to, which has a video showing it off. So mods, please keep that in mind, this is public info even if not everyone might have discovered it yet.

What I wrote after reading blog post:

Premium subscription
Exactly what I said it would be. Get some up front, forced login for the next 30 days or you lose out on some of the value. In theory, good that they they provide options. Wrong timing though. The math is as usual messed up. 30 days gives 1325 coins, so that still means a LOT of single outfits are still out of reach after a full month. Doesn't address much of the core issues of the shop anyway.

Sales
That's mostly fine in itself. We'll see if they discount stuff enough for it to be worth it. Combined with subscription maybe it'll make some of them worth it, but a lot will still be out of range after 30 days even when pulling like 33% discount

That's about the only things for this patch noted in the blog. The other things they note are for 0.189, which means February patch. So here's thoughts on 0.189 stuff.

Stickers
After all the talk of people wanting to earn stuff, it's stickers of all things. One thing that few have actually mentioned. And they're making it a collectible thing, so another trading focussed thing. Don't know if using the stickers out and about will also use it up (like fireworks). Concept isn't stupid, but stupid choice for that to be the focal point.

Earnable Nameplates
They didn't say it in clear text if earnable nameplates is for 0.189, but not the worst addition if so. Still, afaik it's not something that has been requested as heavily. The one thing people have asked about is clothing. Seems we can forget about that.

Snailgate
Well, seems we're getting the snail plush finally. I think I may have pushed WC hard enough on that one. As I said then and I'll say now, my gripe was never about the snail, but the principle and the handling. Lack of apology, what was practically gaslighting, going radio silence on us with it. Snail is just a simple and clear example of bad handling and attitude, which is something that's happened with quite a few things.

Additional Tints

and an additional furniture tint making their way to Palia
Note that it says an additional tint. Unless it's their usual unclear wording, we're only getting a single tint. If I remember correctly, there are (including the default) 14 tints for furnitures in the game files (subject to some misremembering). Out of that we're now going from 5 (again, including default) to 6 tints if they only add a single one. That's all they could do after all this crock?

Overall thoughts
The patch preview is just a sad lot of nothing. A lot of corporate speak. The closest thing to an apology we get is "sorry we didn't get it to you sooner", and as usual a lot of excuses, a lot of "this is why we're right and not gonna listen properly".

Still, doesn't make them invalid, and reading these review it gives exactly the same vibes I get from the blog posts, and what I get from WizardCrab's posts.

Sidenote I'm adding right now: This part isn't really your fault, but it probably doesn't help that you as Chief Revenue Officer are, even if temporarily, the public facing part of S6 right now. I'm glad we have a public facing part finally, so please don't take that the wrong way. But at the same time it's not necessarily great for optics that the person responsible for monetization is the one facing players amidst this time of such low trust in the company, although at least that means we have a shorter route to being heard regarding monetization issues... if we end up being genuinely heard.

I can understand what you mean by this, and I know some people may think this is the case. Which to start with, sure!

However, for people to want to spend that money, they are going to want some more content. I think there's a decent amount for new players, and of cousre, it does end up lacking and hard to see the more you play the game. That's expected, and it does suck.

But what makes it even worse, is the fact there's a lot of bugs right now. There's a lot of people who fall through the ground, the white screen that sporadically occus that also makes it difficult for people to play, the accessibility issues, etc.... it makes people just... not want to play.

And if people don't want to play, they won't want to spend that money. If they were to try to focus and prioritize that a bit more, to where the game feels more stable for a lot of the playerbase, more people would probably spend more. [I mean, also if they had individual pieces imo and some other things, but just giving an example other than that.]

It def is like a circle and a cycle. People dont' want things for free, and having a decent balance is good. I use a tug of war analogy a lot.

1 side being free, 1 side being paid. We don't want 1 side to have more focus, so the other side goes in the mud. ANd right now, people have felt like the paid side is getting more, with the free players starting to fall into the mud. And it sucks.

The game being free to play is irrelevant when there’s a large group of people who cannot play, due to lack of accessibility and unfixed bugs/issues. Even if you do not have accessibility concerns, many veteran players have nothing to do in game. All quests are completed, friendships/romances maxed. Once you reach level 50 on each skill, there’s no further reward. Just because the game is free, doesn’t meant it cannot be improved.

There's currently a quest that is bugged, which has stopped some progression for some. I can't do Temple of Gales for accessibility reasons, which also locks me behind progression. Full white screen, that's sporadic, that is harmful for other players, too.

I'm sure there's others that I don't know about or not thinking about, currently.

It’s playable for you, because you may not have accessibility concerns, or you may not have a bugged quest line. There are many players who have not been able to play this game in months, due to photosensitivity reasons (white flashbang effects, which can cause seizures).
I saw your comment earlier about the vibe being trash in here, and I chose to refrain from responding. While I do think certain messages from others could’ve been worded better, this channel is much different than the “heehee happy go lucky decor channel.”

genuinely, screw the Elderwoods update. make the game accessible to people. you'll get more money and actually restore some community goodwill. i've noticed a marked decrease in player numbers, and that's just in the UK/EU servers.
i don't personally care about cosmetics, i care more about having a game to play and make some form of videos out of. if said game is buggy as hell, then i'm going to view it relatively negatively and stop playing the game.
and i know damn well of at least one person that has actively bought cosmetics, that they cannot use because of the bugs plaguing the game, currently. (not trying to speak over them, more towards calling the bugs to attention.)
i mean, hell, if you release the elderwoods as a paid expansion (currently) and later make it free when it's no longer buggy, then that's fine by me.

i had a accident many moons ago which sadly left me with less than ideal eyes, while i do not expect s6 to cater or fix their game around my personal needs (it would be far to much for them and most games dont so why would i expect s6 to do same level) and even on edited videos to lower it it still hurts me its like ice pick to the brain levels of pain
when the trading patch hit many recall me trading from my bathroom floor due to the blindness of the updated brightness (shout out to those who i traded with during that time who gave me extra time to get myself together)
I do worry for people who cant use overlays or reshaders to help make the game more playable since to most a random flashbang sucks but to others its their health sometimes we dont get time to close our eyes, we dont have the time to reload the area at best a panic alt f4
outside of the white screen of death tbh a lil VFX toggle off would go a long way to help many users ...the white screen while i cant openly say xyz is the reason it should be considered a high prio fix

I doubt this is a new idea, but if they're lacking results from their own testers concerning the white screen issue... might be a thought to call on the community (for those that would be safe) to try and replicate the flash. You CAN, but the artwork is so far off from the actual game model. The current workaround for the broken preview is to spin the item in the preview window.

Speaking of ingredients, what would everyone think of "planters" for forageables?

1.) The recipe for planters would be unlocked from Badruu at gardening level 30 and would be crafted using clay bricks.
2.) You can now place quality forageable ingredients (Dari Cloves/Heat Root/etc.) in a seeder to get 1 seed of its type.
3.) You can place planters on the ground, on surfaces like tables or attach them to windows in your house.
4.) The seeds are planted in the planters and are treated much like tree seeds, where you water them over a few ingame days and once
fully grown, you can harvest it to get the ingredient you planted (Chance at being quality based off gardening level) as well as your seed back.

This way you get a renewable source of forageables and a nice new way to garden.

I think it's gonna be similar to the roll emote where its a seperate thing (in this case probably a picture that shows next to your character for a second) while announcing something in chat. Like there might be a wave sticker and chat might say something like "Username waves!"
