- Piksii - a new entity introduced in Elderwood with Patch 0.191 that we trade essence with to get Elderwood Furniture recipes, the word is also used in the names of a tier of shmole and in the name of some bugs
- Prismbeard - a pirate introduced through items in the Premium shop and items from the Prize Wheel
- MSQ - Main Story Quest
- Ulfe - a new NPC introduced in Elderwood with Patch 0.191

We’ve teamed up with the Microsoft Gaming Accessibility Testing Service to run a deep-dive audit of Palia. Their mission: spotlight the most pressing accessibility gaps, map out a clear workflow for our development team to address, and guide us toward adding features that truly move the needle for players. The first wave of fixes ships with the Radiance Rising update, with even more improvements queued up for the patches that follow.

yeah it's in the "down the road" section so I'd say it's anywhere from 3 months to 2 years away, but we've been waiting for a community update since they added (and later took away) text about more features coming soon to the community tab in 2023
Hey, I have memory issues, could we get like a scroll wheel or archive for conversations in the future. Also, the quest for reading the tablets and telling the twins what you found about the birds would feel more rewarding if the correct answer was highlighted.

In the meantime we are working hard to get transcripts of all dialogue and texts into the wiki, for exactly this reason.

I envision the possibility of advanced friendship/romance levels as an area in which AI might be really useful. Just imagine the increased dialogue and gesture options that could potentially be generated to support these levels with the reasonable integration of AI-supported features.

I've brought this up a loooong time ago but i think its worth throwing out again: I really think something like a world clock for IRL time integrated into the game UI (that you could customize to your time zone in the settings) would be extremely helpful if you're someone like me who has ADHD and struggles with time management. Sometimes I'll hyperfixate on the game and won't realize how long I've been playing, to the point I may forget to eat/drink/etc. when I should. I have no experience with coding/game dev but I can't imagine this would be something that would be particulary hard to impliment?
there is kind of one? one hour irl = one day in game (as in, 12 AM to 12 AM = one irl hour.) and there’s a little, ummm what’s it called… it’s not a literal clock, but it shows the placement of the moons and sun in the HUD at the top right.
i personally am better able to keep track of time by always being in bahari when grove spawns, but it’s incredibly hard if you’re hyperfixating on something like decorating cos the cues aren’t as obvious.
Sure that's true, but like you said sometimes the cues are easy to miss if I'm already hyperfixated; and I'm not great at remembering how many "days" have passed since I started playing so even if I know 1 hr = 1 palian day I still may not know how long I've been playing in total. So is it technically possibe to tell? Sure, but it could be easier lol
even just an alarm/timer feature might be nice. a pop up after 3 hours played. other games have this, and it's kinda useful.

fun fact, time and time zones are ludicrously difficult to implement. But there should be no reason to in this case - just pull the system time from the OS. At that point the hardest part is drawing the UI. So yes, eminently doable.
My favorite example of respecting player's lives is Book of Demons, which asks you how long you want to play for and then generates a run of the appropriate size based on your play speed to date. Obviously only possible with certain games, but still. Awesome.

We've run into some accessibility discussions in the wiki channels, wondered if anyone has a good idea. There was a complaint that we have text walls on the wiki, which was defined as "not each sentence having its own line". Any thoughts? Switching the entire wiki to that is not technically feasible. (Any other accessibility comments for over there are welcome too obviously.)
So I’m a dyslexic and I do find it a wall of text. I don’t think each sentence needs its own line. That’s… a lot.
I find that some space around text blocks easier (think margins and paragraph indents along with a space between paragraphs) or the ability to have slightly larger text.
I am should be asleep but I likely can come up with some other ideas when it’s not 4am. I have a tech writing degree despite ny disabilities (though the prejudice of the disability has made it useless.)

I am in no way an expert on computer settings, but isn't there one in browser or computer settings that would make your experience better? Haven't looked at them in awhile but there might be. Or an app that tweaks the layout of the page?

Mmm.. it looks like they also made things easier to navigate in like cooking, campfire, and workable
This one is going to be a case of opinions, competing access needs(bad wall of text vs too scattered to follow), and browser + settings.
If there's anything you can do on the settings/options of the wiki to expose any built in accessibility tooling (not familiar with anything specific here) then do it.
Generally I think there's a good amount of section headings and subtitles going on in the wiki that breaks things upnl into bite sized chunks. The only thing I've run into is missing expand/read more buttons - I forget they're a thing sometimes have two or three times I've had people I'm helping say the information isn't on the page when its under one of those.
And there are tools like rocket reader or some browsers that have built in reading modes that simplify the page significantly which helps some people read better/easier and get around soft pay walls, but it can break media elements and dynamic content.
Looks like UI elements, having some added content not being story locked, adding more flashing, platforming, and skill locked content, more pushes towards co op, and whatever is in bug fixes - so mixed bag

one line per sentence is actually not accessible… it might be some people’s preferences, but preference doesn’t equal generally accessible (one of the things that makes accessibility so difficult is that you have to err on the side of the majority of needs, which can end up excluding folks, unfortunately

as mentioned by jasmin, typical formatting is usually the most accessible. paragraphs shouldn’t run past five sentences (i err on the side of 3-4), headers/bullet points/things that generally break things up into obvious sections, and using text formatting as intended (e.g. using bold to emphasize words instead of entire sentences/paragraphs) goes a long way.
is it possible to change the font the wiki uses?
I believe the decision was made to use the same font (or the closest approximation) to what the game uses.
So overall Patch Notes for 0.192: Radiance Rising are a mixed bag:
- Continued adding flashes, co-op, platforming
- Working to make UI across the game more readable, distinguishable, consistent, useful, and clear
- Including working on both controller and mouse navigation
- Added content with different levels types of access gating (player level, main story, skill use, discovery) which should mean everyone who can play in Elderwood will have some new content, but many not have all new content
We'll see if anything else has changed that wasn't noted - One item we're looking forward to is the outfit vfx toggle, we don't have an eta for it so likely it's not in this one - and we'll see how the event is in game
is there a limited set of fonts to choose from or can you upload your own?

Thank you for sharing information with the community. However, the large walls of texts and information is better viewed in the website for accessibility concerns. Discord does not provide adequate accessibility as their mark up system has less options than the native website.
Generally we discourage large walls of text anywhere on the discord and prefer messages to be linked to. Positing thoughts and discussions surrounding information is fine, but reiterating what is already posted overwhelms the channel.
✨ competing (and varied) access needs ✨ the post has flashes, "clever" rather than literal sections, and sections that are blocks of text rather than bullets while also being both harder to read in some browsers than discord but also in some more responsive and readable than discord
I've actually always appreciated Celosia making bulletpoints and things like they usually do here, because it has made some info easier for me to read.
I literally can barely read the patch notes blog version because the wall of text-ness of it, so I appreciate the clear bulletpoints Celosia
also people often don't have the important channels on their list for whatever reason so miss every announcement and (general internet fun fact) click through requirements reduce reading (as we all well know from our headline only culture)
especially when the website has such a bright background too, some folks may not be able to even read the notes because of it (i know personally that the contrast of the writing and the yellow background hurts my eyes)
it's indeed strange that the website doesn't allow a darkmode
I don't haven't checked and I'm not sure I have the tools at hand for it - does the site invert colors properly? or is the background an image(hate this)
yeah, i struggle to focus on the words/letters, because of the contrast, sadly
oh, firefox reading mode makes it better and worse. interesting
I'm honestly not sure - I don't use any third party tools because a dark mode toggle is such a basic accessibility thing that it always surprises me when websites don't have it
ah, i still have darkreader installed (just previously disabled) and it does work
I forwarded an idea to Lacie about providing a version of the patch notes with no images. I don’t have an answer or timeline at this time, but it would cover the concern of large walls of texts and being able to access the patch notes in a way that’s readable.
celosia, if i may make a suggestion, perhaps spoiler your messages? large amounts of text can be jarring/cause headaches even when formatted accessibly, especially on phones because of smaller screens. when i have a large amount of information to post, i spoiler each bullet point. this also improves readability on mobile since discord will re-spoiler the previously unspoiled line automatically, so you see each bullet point individually instead of in a list.
Random thought and I know this might take too many resources and might not be possible, but giving the ability to make player characters have a walking aid or wheelchair could be cool for representation, I rarely see games do that and I think it would be neat. 
I'm not sure if they would be able to do that, but I think a wheelchair or cane decor piece would be a nice addition so people can at least add that part of them in the game

If the accessibility is the concern with the bullet points, large texts, etc (which in some regard I can get, i know it's a lot for mobile for example)... can I make a suggestion, that maybe there can be a thread specifically for the patch notes?
As in, a thread here, that Celosia can post the patch notes in the bullet point format, so there's a place where we can look at, add to our 'list', to read it easier? Instead of posting it here in this channel?

this is a new-to-me suggestion (not too heavy a lift! just new), so I haven't seen discussion on it - have you seen people falling more in the camp of "Big Bullets too much" or "Bunch of Black Bars too much" with that?

I'm not in game yet but the piksii blossom bounce post is encouraging generally (even if it does elements that need accessibility changes) with the different play style considerations and the promise of continuous improvement on their side (the roadmap video showed that they are really baking that into all the systems going forward too, which tracks with what we've heard about struggles adding alternative paths to pre roots temples)
i’ve never seen anyone object to the spoiling version! i imagine it would be more likely to be an issue if you use discord on light mode, but dark mode is more accessible to most. i have seen people object to amounts of text even when accessible spacing is used.
Echoing this I love that they've encouraged different play styles, it's very promising!
good to know - (sharing as just an anecdote, not a rebuttal) I have a couple migraine friends who buck the dark mode trend and can only do light mode (i was shocked, the variance in symptoms and triggers is wild)
conflicted on the new notifications (changed corners on PC, theming added, more color coding added) - they're definitely more eye catching (and still BIG like the quests so we need a UI scale slider even more)

yeah, accessibility is so hard because so many needs are different. i’m glad they’ve started a thread for patch notes, that seems like a good — holy smokes, my thought process interrupted by that screenshot. poor switch handheld users 😭
the change for console users sounds like it should just be the color/theming - they only noted a position change for PC an they were already BIG

it said that they were trying to fix it covering quest info, but valk's info means they just changed the issue rather than fully fixing it
looking through settings and there's a small style change on the section headers so they were definitely in there, but I'm not noticing a real change though I'm not good at spotting them in here
the new Artifacts tab in the Elderwod menu is nice and visual - this style tracker/journal is interesting, different from current achievement tracking (on the ones that have it) and from the lore journal people want
Thanks for collaborating on a solution 💜. Probably not in Lacie's purview, but having the website respect autoplay setting for gifs and theme settings for text & background as sent from the browser would be wonderful - it'd help the whole site and not burden the individual publisher each time they post

Damn, its the only gripe about the game so far, parts of the hud is massive while other parts arent.
Check out the size of the icons while cooking now. MASSIVE. We really need HUD/UI scaling now.
yea also the item pickups are kinda huge
and the quest hud on the side has always been
the quest hud for me is horrendous, worse since the new purple and gold icons
heads up - the storage icons and font are slightly smaller and shift size up and down at times
The new UI is horrible. Chat font size too big, the item popups are pretty but way too big and invasive, they were also better at the bottom right corner, the storage icons/stack size numbers are annoying to read at a glance... and some of the other HUD features mentioned by other members above ☝️
The UI before this update, I found to be pretty perfect. Now? It's not that good imo.
I agree, the storage number icons/stack sizes are off. They're smaller and smushy now. Official terminology. Anyway, it's harder to read them.

oh! infected creatures are easier to differentiate now (pretty sure someone here mentioned having trouble with them), the black goo only covers like 25% of them and creates an aura - it actually shifts the issue to not always being certain its infected

the lair now has much better lighting like the rest of the deep wood
just wanted to send a quick positive thanks for making things easier to see upon looting, i can finally see what i am getting and don't have to try so hard to see the loot anymore. big win. ❤️

As someone with neurological disorder affecting my vision and vision issues in general, this has significantly improved my ability to see my loot. It's a huge win for me. Not to mention no more interference on inventory. The inventory numbers being clearly black on a white background are much easier to see now. I'm no longer straining or pausing to stare at things.
everyone has different needs that's why a slider for the UI and for font would be good
I know people have already posted in here about this, but wanted to echo the issue with the storage numbers having gotten smaller. As someone who is visually impaired, I already struggled to read them at times, but now it's almost impossible for me. The way they were before was much better

Oh i get it it's the how to
Going into the cave seems to break the gamma of the game. Changing areas seems to fix it.
i hate to suggest it because A) it's a pain to get things just right again and B) there's so many variables beyond it, but resetting to defaults might help - mine is currently default except for gamma and filter, as of today's update everything is easy to see and it barely darkens at night in elderwood, the lair is lit right, the caves don't mess with things, central stables doesn't go all gloomy when I enter

is there any way to disable the glowy/flashy effects in hotpot? it's so bad I can't see my cards and i'm getting extremely dizzy/headachey and I'm worried about seizures ;;
unfortunately no, there's no certain way to reduce the flashes and other vfx in the game - some have had limited success with turning down the quality of some graphics quality, changing the gamma, and/or changing the color filter (last two are under calibrate screen on the graphics settings page).
!feedback be sure to let them know. Oh, and there should be a toggle of some sort for outfit vfx soonish(we don't have an eta but we have solid comments on it being worked on as of a few weeks ago)

Do we have a round up of flashes, vfx, and bright spots?
bouncey pads in the elderwood, the event in the elderwood, sunrise and sunset depending on where you stand, bright plants in the elderwood, bug bombs, arrows, watering, hotpot, prize wheel, ....
when rocks are about to disappear they flash really fast
Same for plants, I think, though these are thinner usually so a bit less visible I think.
forgot those - is fishing's catch animation bad enough too? cuz that's all the skills if it is
not for me but i'm not as bad as some people with photosensitive epilepsy. it's not instant for me, it takes a bit and usually just leaves me dizzy with a migraine after a bit

PS5, can't turn adaptive trigger off... all the balloon popping is killing me! I've temp changed the button config, but please, if you can fix this!
There's an option to turn screen brightness/gamma up, on PS5 anyway. I have mine on max and it helps A LOT 👍
I agree, as a PC player, I'd like to have an option to scale the UI elements like the Quest Log and the new item pop ups smaller than they currently are, it's not feeling so cozy when everything is cluttering my screen space.
Im 100% with this. For myself the UI is way too big from the quests/item pop ups, but from others I've heard its way too small. But either way its very cluttered and ruins the cozy vibe of the game.
I also don't know what they did to the chest inventory but it looks like someone put increased the sharpness setting for the look? It looks terrible.
Hello! I’m new to the server but have been loving Palia since I learned about it in March this year, so much that I’ve shared with my siblings and we often play as a party together.
My younger sister has a global delay that makes it a bit difficult to grasp full concepts, participate in conversations, and some difficulties with her hand/limb maneuverability. When I introduced Palia to her, she absolutely loved it! She loves the colours of the world and the characters, she sees them as her friends! She now plays it all the time, and having it now on the Xbox makes it even easier for her to set up the game on her own (as compared to having to wait for someone to turn the game on through steam on the laptop). She truly enjoys the game, her biggest passion is chopping trees and other foraging.
However, when we tried cooking together, she found it very difficult to assist at the prep station. I was wondering if it’s possible to get an accessibility feature that allows for the rhythm-mini game to recognize the chop/ pressing “x” down even if it doesn’t fully line up in the dedicated zone. Letting it be easier to fulfill the needed amount of chops.
She really loves this game, and I love that she is able to do a lot in it independently. Having an accessibility feature like that would alleviate a lot of frustrations she feels towards her condition. Sorry for the long thread but I thought it might help others struggling with the same issue 🙂

!feedback would be a great place to let the devs know about this! I'm not sure if anyone has any workarounds that might help with chopping... I heard the music fits for it to some extent, though I'm unsure if that'd actually help with anything beyond maybe an extra cue of when to cut. (Can't speak from experience with the music however, as I usually play without sound.)
I know this won't help much with the prep station issues or the general frustration about not being able help there, but there are some tasks like stirring or baking that don't require as much precise input, so her doing those and someone else doing the things she struggles with might work to cook together, too. I think their sister's problems with the mechanic is timing the chopping with the little bars, not the actual action of chopping? I have issues with it sometimes too since I have reaction delays - I'm wondering if maybe something like an option to increase the size of the bars might help?

And yup! That’s similar to what she struggles with, it’s difficult for her to react fast enough for to hit the bar and for the chop to count.
However she has been able to help with stirring so that’s no problem 🙂 it’s become frustrating for her because she wants to cook independently and learn more recipes but the mechanics were too fast and overwhelming, I think you’re right, no time limit or a wider bar or even an open chopping mechanic (example: 8 chops=press x 8 times) could help out a lot ☺️

Yes, I’ve observed her trying as well on my laptop and she finds it difficult to chop at the exact time the bars line up. We’ve tried to teach her how the cooking mini game goes but the mobility issues from her fingers slows her down, even with practicing together it is still difficult. I am sending this through the feedback form, I’m hopeful there can be an accessibility feature for it!

I try to avoid anything with those green onions coz my goodness, that's virtually impossible imo!
Or even if they just release some recipes that don't require chopping!
I've removed my chopping stations, I don't have all the recipes but all I can make is the Macarons
Plenty of games that aren't about inclusivity have an "enable/disable/adjust QTEs" option just because some of us don't have Gamer Reflexes(tm) so this seems like a reasonable ask

i have a build question for someone that may need sensory booths
I was planning to make a separate part of my plot (separate meaning under the actual plot itself) and wanted to know if that would be to over stimulating for someone to get down into the booths

Is there an option to remove the chopping sound while cooking? I find it doesn't match the beat to which you're supposed to cook and it throws me off... Otherwise matching it to chopping rhythm would be good too since I'm very auditory with those things 🙏🏻

(no spoilers of course) just visually its a bit difficult for me to play in some areas. i struggle with bright intense visuals so i generally have my screens a bit dimmer than most, however because of Elderwoods being darker i struggle to move around? I'm sorry I can't offer much, I struggle with fishing/hunting/bug catching too as soon as I need to actually be fast, haven't found a good workaround yet... Though I believe the Elderwood introduced random item bags for the various skills, those might help at least a little bit...
Feature request on console: "Are You Sure?" prompt before teleporting home from the map screen. We have 4 buttons to press, 25% chance to accidentally hit the wrong one, kill a cool down, and lost progress.

I've been struggling with this as well and it's really souring the game for me.. I was so excited to play the EW update but I pretty much have to avoid the area at this point or I'm left feeling frustrated and saddened by the experience. I have not so great night vision and navigating the Elderwoods has been a little too real as I feel like I'm constantly straining my eyes and running into walls unable to find things

As an experienced percussionist who's played a few rhythm games, there's definitely something off with the cutting minigame, but I'm not sure that's the answer.
Anyway, actual answer to your question is no, not that I can see. The sound menu isn't that granular.
(If I were king, we'd be able to disable the "open inventory/menu" sound, which 1. is a fanfare more suited for opening a chest than a routine menu, and 2. seems somehow louder than everything else)
it may be unsatisfying but as far as focusing on the things you can do, I believe all the stuff you really need from one skill in order to advance another is available in the General Store. Won't help with gift requests, of course.
You may have already figured this out but you can hunt the chapaas in Kilima with one Makeshift arrow, which will pretty soon get you to the point where you can make standard arrows, which will bag a standard Sernuk in one hit. I haven't used Fine arrows yet but I'm hoping they will open up other options that let you focus on patience over speed.
I adjusted my settings and this made a world of difference, curious if you found what worked for you
Thanks :-) I have access to all arrows (been playing for quite a while), just still unable to get the trickier creatures on my own (sernuk are kind of okay, they don't disappear, just are bugged and warp around but that's still solvable with patience). One-hit ones are fine (level 1 Sernuk and Chapaa), Sernuk and Shmoles in general are okay-ish but not good, and for the other ones I either need to work together with random people, or skip them. Mostly I skip them.
Iirc at least sometimes (e.g. for higher-level romances, and at least in the past for some main story quests too) you did actually need to have some stuff - Muujin Meat for the Muujin Bahari for Your Order is Served, specific rare fishes etc if you pick the wrong option in the romance pin quests, specific really tricky fishes for the bundles, etc. It's not just levelling up my Skills, it's also that I want to play through the story.
Idk if thats the right place to post and i guess this was suggested few times, but wouldnt it be possible that when im out in the World of Palia and i open my inventory or i open a shop of a Palian where i can buy things and hover over an Item, that i can see how many of that ive got in my Store-Chest? I miss that feature so often 😄

hii! i asked in another page about some sort of accessibility for easier sight of the fishing lure and was suggested to ask here too. basically i love the fishing mechanic but find it really hard to see the fishing lure to keep it within the green circle, i love when the fish goes behind/under something and it turns yellow as it’s sooo much easier to see. right now i have to get super close to my screen and it really strains my eyes to see the fishing lure, does anyone have any tips for dealing with this as i know there doesn’t seem to be any features for this currently, thank you !
there isn't much right now - change the bobber to whichever you find easiest to see, fiddle with graphics > calibrate screen settings - but definitely use the above links to add your voice to the call for one (more reports = more impact = higher priority)

I mean I've been managing it so far, currently up to level 9 (admittedly only due to the current extra-xp bug.) Is getting new bobbers inevitable, or should I look at making particular choices?
You can buy new ones and can then choose which one you want.
not sure this is the right place, but since the water update it has gotten really hard for me to see oysters and shells on the beach. the length or duration of the glow that indicates there's something to pick up has suffered since the water change. as a someone with low vision, that has even turned on color blindness settings to help, i can't see them anymore, really. not until i'm standing on them and it says to pick up with F. just wanted to let devs know that the recent water change has caused issues for folks with vision disabilities, potentially.

I really wish purchasing had a confirmation button. A few times ive accidentally tapped things i didnt mean to, plus literally every other game ive played you click the item to see it better & get a description & then it asks to purchase or you hold to purchase. I also wish they had better descriptors, esp in the relationship area for gifts etc. The item images are often so small & not always clear exactly what it is & you cant hover over them to see their names
Can't you? I always forget and then hover to see not only the names but, as often as not, where to find them (esp. fish and insects). Is it a platform issue?

Switch doesn't use the touchscreen at all.
If you can't navigate to the boxes with any of the sticks (there sometimes is a tiny frame you can move around between various places), you're out of luck unfortunately.

When you hit X for the Villager's Weekly Wants Info, a pop-up window apoears with the weekly wants. Use your left joycon stick to scroll through the options. When you stop on one the name will appear.
Hmm ok ill try again next time im on, i dont normally have an x option. I go to the "relationships" sections & then just click each persons info? Is there somewhere else i should be looking for the weekly wants for this option?
From the main screen, hit "+". Then select Relationships and hit "A." Scroll down to the villager and hit "X" to see the Weekly Wants Info.

What is the reason why developers won't let players delete accounts/characters or unlink accounts from Steam? I am having so many problems because of this, and they are getting so many support tickets. Why not add a button? It makes some players lose hype of playing, or directly it makes us lose possibility of playing
That's probably not accessibility-related, but:
- Steam: Might be a Steam policy, at least I've seen similar policys from different games. Also security reasons probably, it makes selling accounts etc harder.
- Delete Accounts/characters: I'm not sure, to some extent it might tie in to the entire security stuff... Also, they might just not have implemented it, the starting screen looks like it might still be vaguely planned to me. I think I heard something about it, but can't find the source right now so it might just have been speculation by players.
I'm curious if this is an issue with other folks with auditory processing issues: does anyone else find the combined audio effects in Elderwoods to be overwhelming?
I can't pinpoint exactly what it is yet, but I think it's the combination of discordant music, bells, and in-game sound effects altogether (like bugs, the strange music put off by forages) to be too much.
i have auditory processing issues as well, and while i myself only find it slightly annoying, i can absolutely understand someone who may be more sensitive than me finding it overstimmulating. EVERYTHING makes a noise and they're often grouped close together so it all mixes
would really like an Azerty option so I don't have to change my keybind settings after every new update.
yeah i know people gonna be mad because who uses azerty anyways but in Belgium it's actually the more common thing and i've always used Azerty so it just sucks for me that I have to change my keybinds every time. I know some other games have the option to just select Azerty or Qwerty type keyboard but Palia doesn't have that. Tried to play it once on my Xbox but doesn't feel natural to me since I need to act fast during bug hunting & stuff

Yes. I'm hypersensitive and have APD as part of my autism, and Palia is one of few game I cannot stand using a headset alot of times. Too much noise that can't be filtered out in the settings.

I think a way to make your fishing bobber more visible in early game would be great! You know how you get the neon yellow fish/bobber when you're fishing thru someone? I think that should be a setting where you can turn it on permanently. It would make fishing easier for my bad eyesight lol

new things keep getting added that make the game more and more physically painful for photosensitivity and triggering more migraines, but no accessibility of any kind to prevent harming players with photophobia so it's quickly becoming unplayable and making me have absolutely awful migraines

There's Autorun which is "/". I think it makes you run in a straight line, because "[p]ressing any movement keys stops the player from auto running." from the wiki (Game Controls).
I switched from Nintendo Switch to PS5 and used the same email (I assume because I can't see my credentials on Switch)...but the game went back to the beginning. I sent a ticket a week ago and still haven't received a response

Im not on PC but if you mean a sprint toggle then yes. Go to your settings and in the Gameplay area (first option) half way down there is “Sprint Setting” shot that to toggle to sprint and now you only need to hit the sprint button when you load into new areas or when you turn it off. It also effects your autorun.

Part of me hopes that the majority of them are non-native English speakers who assume it means "accessing" the game, but... I think that accessibility just isn't a thing most people think about when they don't need those options.

I agree, a warning doesn't really solve much. Still best to send in feedback at the link the bot sent, so S6 knows it's an important issue. I'm sure it's been reported before, but more players adding their voice to asking for it can't hurt.
Unfortunately, S6 hasn't been very good about implementing accessibility things so far, but they've announced in their roadmap that they want to get an assessment for it, so there's some hope it'll change (usual disclaimer that substantial stuff takes long to implement so there might be a warning long before we actually get new settings).

It's in the "Looking Ahead" section which seems to correspond to "Down the Road" in the graphic & video, since that's got items that are well over a year away and the previous section included "by the end of the year items" I'd say that they hadn't started the audit yet but had bumped up a few gimme items from their backlog for patches that come out before they have a result from the audit that they can share or any ETAs on specific features
it makes no sense why they would add flashy arrows after an audit :( I know 4 other people now that have said the lighting and flashes hurt them and only one of them has actual photosensitivity
they're really cool and pretty, but they didn't do anything about safety first at all

I do, too. I actually came back in here to get the feedback link because I haven't played since November 2024 if i recall correctly. Palia was my safe haven, i absolutely share your sentiment and hope that the devs choose to educate themselves and do better.
I check back every so often to see what's changed, but aside from the recent, announcement to address their accessibility issues, it's all been the same. It's sad.
Either way, I sent my letter, only time will tell if things change or not. There's trust, but it's weary.
I love how there are no spider species for us arachnophobic's but I do feel like we should add some.
Like webs where we can use smoke bombs on them to catch them and maybe a arachnophobia setting so spiders are changed to circular dpeheres with the colors of the spiders body.

Wondering if they will add talk to text or if im missing spotting a setting for it, I have one hand (also not my dominant hand) typing in chat is quite an arduous process, especially when flaring somethings that despawn pretty fast like dari cloves.
What platform are you on? On PC, the default is "fullscreen windowed" and Windows functions like Snip all work, so I'd imagine that whatever speech-to-text program you use normally would continue to work, unless I'm wrong about how they operate?
While certainly not an ideal replacement for actual accessibility features, could you try to use the default 8 stickers that have "quick chat" features? For instance one of them is "flare up" and then you would just have to add the coordinate. Not sure how many actual keystrokes that would save you though by the time you navigate to the stickers and I don't think you can hotkey them.
Well, they're hotkeyed in the sense of T + scroll down or click Stickers + move the mouse in the right direction + release T... sooooo not particularly one-hand-friendly. Like, at all.

It's a shame that the server limitations mean you can't easily just find a Discord VC you like and ask people to post flare messages for you when necessary. I mean, not without always joining other's servers, or asking them to jump into yours

I'm not sure if this would help or not, but 39 options sounds like being able to highly customise your keybinds (and double-using some keys in different contexts) could be very useful. Maybe the ability to sort of prerecord messages ("Flare at [Game inserts current position]") in sort of a tool wheel might work, if speech to text doesn't run somehow? I'm not sure if something along those lines is in the game yet, or if we'd have to throw it into the feedback and hope the devs see it and agree though. I've certainly seen it somewhere recently, and can't check if it was Palia or somewhere else at the moment, just wanted to throw the thought out there...
Im not certain if that would work out not I had tried keeping a flare message on clipboard to paste in adding d3 etc but soon as I paste the game crashes
I'll just keep going as I have been, palia is actively improving as the months go by so who knows one day they might implement something to help

It's a scripting program that lets you customize your own hotkeys, for example I have a trivial one for ctrl+' = ° (since it's not on the standard qwerty keyboard anywhere) and another one for ctrl+* = ¯_(ツ)_/¯ since I got tired of having to search the web and copy-paste it every time

Also Minecraft doesn't let you change keybindings (or didn't at the time) so I used it to switch E and R except when I was typing, but only when Minecraft was open. So you can do some pretty complex stuff with it

Yeah, earlier I was having problems switching the broadcast type to Server and just flared the node and moved on - but some people still ran by me toward it. We do the best we can to be cooperative, but there are plenty of times it's not feasible. Like when the Switch hoses up the chat window every time you join a Hot Pot table. SMH
is there any way to prevent the hotpot game from zooming in on your cards every turn?

There is no tab, menu, or setting labeled as motion sickness settings (despite the loading screen tip implying it) you just have to know what could possibly help and how they work.
Center reticle, camera bob/shake, field of view, frames per second, vsync, gamma, and color filter can all be tweaked to help
There's a Google sheet in the pins for this channel with accessibility tips, its out of date so doesn't have everything but it still can help
Center reticle was specifically labeled as helping with motion sickness, that's the only reason I turned it on b/c I hadn't heard that before
But that might have been inline description, not a separate menu section

@rapid tide if you can't find another option you might look into setting up something like AutoHotkey to do repeated clicks when you hold a button down. That one is a really complex tool to set up but is free, has good compatibility, and can do tons of things. Right now I'm working on setting it up so that a second USB keyboard can be used as something like a stream deck instead of, well, a second keyboard.
Also I find that pressing a button on my controller hurts my hand/wrist less than clicking my mouse rn, steam palia works acceptably for most things using a switch controller although you'll probably have to swap a-b and x-y in the steam controller settings for each game you use it in.

hm, idk about autoclickers because i don't use them. and tbh for repeated clicking I have a macro in my mouse software itself. It works like autohotkey in that while you are holding the button it repeatedly clicks... and doesn't click otherwise. I hope you can find something that works
I don't know how stuff like that works. I have a logitech mouse which runs with logi options + I havent seen anything about macros.
hmm, if it's a logitech mouse you might be able to install the g hub even without having a g series mouse
if your mouse doesn't have any reprogrammable buttons then most of the programs' use will be irrelevant, but you should be able to set up a profile with the repeated clicking function you want on the two standard buttons. Autohotkey would let you set it up so that if you held a second button such as control, and then clicked, (or any other key/key combo) it would repeatedly click, and it's a considerably lighter weight program, but it is harder to use since it requires scripting rather than g hub's drag-and-drop interface

Can we get an option for outlining the watering meter over plants. It is really difficult for the apartment if a plant has been watered. Especially if it is a plant that doesn't grow on the plots like flowers.

Tried to see if this has already been discussed but can’t find anything. I’m on PS5 and the R2 and L2 triggers are wrecking havoc on my hands. As soon as I get any tool out it’s like the triggers lock up and require an absurd amount of force to press. I saw that “Adaptive Trigger Intensity” is a setting but it won’t let me change it from high. Is there some other way I can get this to hurt less?
@north sail I saw this in console zone, someone else had a similar issue and another user suggested turning it off entirely.

Today's stuff from #📢│palia-news is a teaser/suzzle reel for marketing/hype purposes so its light on details, so we don't have any answers as players. On the 8th the patch notes should drop at the start of the downtime giving us more info and collectively things are usually sussed out and pressure tested within 24hrs.
Though devs and CM may be around a little today and Monday with some answers, but it not a guarantee with the long holiday weekend. (This is not just a reply to your one question, also saw the opportunity for general info 😆 )

Not sure where this can go but ...The shepp concept makes me really uncomfortable in how dubious and forced it all feels. Really wish there was a way to forego the whole "ceremony" narratively seeing as I'm actively avoiding progressing the game now because I don't want to force a relationship to get an end out of it.

As far as I can tell, you so far don't miss that much if you just don't go and find a shepp, not sure if that helps... (If you're curious, I'll include the things I know you'd miss: ||Some renown, a wreath decor, and so far for some events you'd get some info from your shepp if you have one, and from someone else if you don't. Maybe a few dialog options, but I'm not sure there.||)

You're right, they push it (that quest even keeps pinning itself for some reason, for me), but feel free to pretend you never got the quest if you feel like doing that (easier said than done, I know). It doesn't seem to lock any other quests as far as I can tell.
Well thats something I suppose. I guess this game is to some extent a dating sim dressed up like a life sim anyway
I'd say you can get through it without romancing anyone and still see most of the content (you'd miss the romance quests/quest rewards and a few romance voice lines, obviously), I haven't seen them push the romance aspect too much but I guess that's one where it also depends a bit on how you view all that stuff.
Either way, if you think they push the relationships too much, be they friendships or romantic relationships or shepps, that'd be a great thing for feedback to ensure the devs see it!

Worth noting that a Shepp is not in any way romantic. A Shepp is a mentor. It's more like being adopted.
Still, I wish it wasn't as forced. Altogether with the rest of the cultural shock of being thrust into a world where you're immediately being demanded for gifts in order to bribe trust from everyome else and to devote yourself into this new way of life, and now suddenly you have to lock your life to someone else (in whatever capacity) in a way that shocks the villagers at the mere suggestion of it, it just. Sat sour with me when I first read it and it just keeps souring my experience when it keeps re-pinning and trying to prompt me to ask every villager every time i talk to em.
I have been playing for years and still haven't bothered to choose a Shepp. It hasn't really affected much of anything, although I do wish the quest would stop self-pinning.
A lot of quests keep self pinning for me. I did the shepp one. Its just other quests that will self pin no matter how many time I unpin them
Just to steer this into appropriate territory for this channel, self-pinning quests with the new UI quest tracker are especially frustrating, as the text and accents are incredibly obstructive. Does not help with migraines at all! I cannot for the life of me understand why they continue to make sweeping UI changes without sliders or the ability to opt out.
This, plus I assume there'll also be folks having issues with the self-pinning quests occasionally replacing normal ones - I know I get side-tracked enough with having them already.
I have to keep unpinning a lot of quests. It also gets overwhelming when there's the three quests pinned. I prefer to go slow and work on one quest at a time

That's the part I don't like about it either -- it would be fine with me if it wasn't even an option until you reach the right friendship level (I view it as solidifying your friendship with that person, not romance) but it keeps pinning as the main quest item and prompts you to ask. I've accidentally hit it a few times and I really don't like the HOW DARE YOU ASK!? tone from everyone until you get to the right level.. it's just offputting and yet I'm being made to ask by the system?

I think it'll get worked into the story more eventually, right now only one NPC has a current shepp (sorta? not sure if they're mentioned by title or just function?) but we've only just started the story (everything pre May 13th was prologue)
The overall concept of "when a new person joins a community, they need a sponsor" makes sense though shrug
Yeah that's why I don't have a problem with the concept in general, just the way it's being handled in the game.
so then why do they need to be max level? usually sponsoring happens at the START, not the END of a friendship
you don't need max friendship, but you need level 4 completed - just most friendship quests haven't been added yet so only a few NPCs have level 5 (which also isn't max friendship)
Depends how serious it is. In my book a sponsor is someone who trusts you enough to vouch for your behavior, which I wouldn't do for someone I just met

they've said that more relationship (both kinds) levels and quests are still to come (prioritized by which NPCs have current levels completed the most), the game will be in beta for years, and that the game will be continuously updated for it's entire life (as it's a live service game) which they hope is years and years to come

Unfortunately not via setting, eventually you earn different bobbers (aesthetic only, no buffs or bonuses) that are more visible

I wish there was a way to make indoor housing brighter. I have SO many lights in each room but its almost always still dark apart from like 1 certain point of the "game day" which is really short. I get the whole natural lighting thing but i still wish the indoor was brighter like irl
How much have you fiddled with settings? I cranked my brightness way up to be able to see at night and indoors. Also I notice the lighting calculations are worse on Switch (along with, like, everything else...) to the point where at least one light in my house doesn't illuminate what it's supposed to
there is a more glowy bobber which is at least a bit of an improvement you get from doing the flames bundle, and then i think there's one from questing as well but i hven't gotten to that point yet.
there are different bobbers from einar that you can buy with medals, i've had the same issue too and really like the lantern one

Depending on where you are, try to stand so that something (a wall, or a rock, or whatever) is in front of where the bobber is. While it's hidden like that, it becomes a super obvious visible yellow instead of the normal bobber.

unless you have a fully upgraded axe and the tree is very small, you literally cant
But once I did
then it must have been a very, very tiny tree. because they heal as you try to chop, and medium to large trees are literally impossible to chop by yourself

There are a few colour changing/filter settings, I think under some variation of "screen calibration". I'm not sure if Switch has it or not, but at least on PC there's also a gamma slider. Maybe one of those could help?
Is there a way to distinguish which animal you hit as its running away? Like it would be great if it was highlight or the hit meter stayed up, when theres multiple its hard to track
it should show a HP bar above it, although i’m not sure it does on switch
It does when i first hit it, but if it runs out of shot, the HP bar disappears so its guess work which one i hit

Hi. Does anyone know developer stance or ideas on how to resolve hardcoded keybind K. I want to play the game but as I am left handed and play with UHJK for movement this hardcoded keybind makes it impossible.
I'm also left-handed and haven't had this issue. Mind you, I use my mouse in combination with the arrow keys to move around.
Kurzweil Reader was the standard tool for dyslexia a few years ago, but I don't remember if it will do arbitrary ocr of what's on screen, or if it only reads PDFs and Word documents.
Sounds like another job for AutoHotkey (remap k to [RtArrow])

I'm hard of hearing and that helped me so much! Especially when there's multiple people fishing the same spot, I don't hear the ding when it's my turn. Also since I have the lantern bobber and it glitches back to the blue standard bobber pretty often and that one just blends in with the water so I lose even the easiest fish 😭

Exactly. I do this with any game that thinks night should be actually dark instead of cinematically dark where you can still see what you're doing.
Specifically, Esc > Settings > Graphics tab > lower right button "Calibrate Screen"
in the Elderwood at times it does get SUPER dark, but the lighting seems to vary tremendously based on where you are, what time of day, and how much rock is between you and the light source. But the last hotfix/patch definitely seemed to make the darks MUCH darker than they had been.

the recent Palia Path roadmap post and video are the only ones of their kind, previously we've had "Dev Updates" that all varied in information and purpose. Which element are you referring to? The new emote is rolling a d20, which doesn't look flashy in the patch notes. Are you thinking of the Northern Warrior outfit (first entry under "Premium Store Updates - July 8")?

Also, it's not quite true that they're trying to trigger photosensitivity reactions, but you're sort of right in that 1. they are most likely not taking photosensitivity into account at all, and 2. their entire business model depends on selling cosmetics, many of which boil down to "sparkly shiny things"
You can adjust the Gamma, and put on color blind filters, it doesn't fix the base issue but it does help me.
gamma does not help with flashing at all, I've already changed a lot of gamma things and colour filters through nvidia overlay

the more flashy things they add the more work it's gonna be to go back and revamp the already existing ones to be able to turn off vfx -_-
the gifs are the northern warrior outfit (big beam of light and flash), the mimic (minimal animation, no flash), and the Bring It On Sticker (minimal, but flashing animation in the background and "twinkling" on the muscles) - the d20 emote is an image not a gif

Small consolation, I know, but the "escalating work" part might not be true - yes, changing each individual outfit animation to have different settings would be a lot of work, but implementing graphics settings for reduced particle effects and reduced contrast for the whole game strikes me as basically a fixed cost

Why has the scrolling method changed on Switch? Normally you would be able to move to the next box vertically in your inventory, but now it throws you to the hard left box, which is annoying

So I don't know if anyone's mentioned but I'd love to see the fact of a windmill to process our wheat, to flour, it can simply be a re-skinned preserver that can process wheat, and in turn can introduce doing sugar canes making sugars iv had the idea a while and someones mentioned voicing it here see what people think, surely I'm not the only one to have thought of it 😅

It's possible, I don't know the button outside of Switch (right stick press) though.
You can change what the sprint button does in the settings.
I wish they would add a button for the shops where you can buy multiple at once instead of spamming the purchase button

On switch ive only got the option to either tap to run & it stay running when you move, or tap everytime to run, there isnt one i can see where it stays running without me touching a button?
It's in your settings it's something like tap to run
But you still have to do the initial touch of a button. Same on PC we can use forward slash to auto run but we have to press the button first.

yeah, check your settings, on PS5, i press Y once and then i autorun (don't need to hold it down), but if you pick up something, or interact/shoot/etc. then you walk again and need to press button again

if you got a gaming mouse on pc you can make a tiny macro to mash left click every 15ms and then also set up button to mash the f button to do the same for gathering
Are there lighting fixtures that illuminate different areas? It might not seem like an accessibility issue but I keep getting the lamp/chandelier directly in between my camera and, say, the stove, or my workbench, and turning it off and on instead of what I mean to do, and it's making cooking, especially, pretty difficult

I also wish they lit the rooms better. I find it really hard to see inside for the majority of the game. Its often lighter OUTSIDE than in the houses even with like 5 lights

I would really love to have the ability to highlight or have a more visible outline on fish (toggle-able even)- it can be very hard to see fish in the water sometimes. The highlight that appears over fish when they are obscured is along the lines of something that would help with accessibility in mind

I think it's incredibly annoying that there's so many issues with controllers (at least for me) even before the update adding new ones. I use controller to play on PC because otherwise my wrists act up and I have to navigate the request menu with mouse because my controller stops working on the request menu :/
Like I get that they're still working out the issues with controllers and all but it's an accessibility issue if I can't consistently use controller to navigate menus.
Tried just now, this doesnt work either. Again, to clarify, by autorun, i mean where i can continue running even when im not touching any buttons. Not simply just running all the time.
Just to make sure - your plan is
- turn the camera in one direction
- press a specific button
- let go of any button
- character walks in the direction of the camera until you press a button/move a stick again

That’s strange. I had tested it with my 3rd party pro controller before posting. Pressing down the right stick like a button at the same time as pressing the Y button put me in auto run mode (no hands). But it didn’t work on my Housing plot.

You’re welcome! think it doesn’t work on your plot because pressing on the right stick activates placement mode. You can hit Y to toggle between walk and run.

Oh, yeah. You just have to click them at the same time to activate autorun. I wonder if the left stick would work too. That would be less awkward.
In this case the buying in bulk is an accessibility issue, repeated clicking/button pressing can be very difficult and/or painful for many conditions etc. Putting in feedback ofc is a good measure but this particular issue is a common topic here.

I’d love a mini map but if they don’t want to do that having the direction letters on the compass be colour coded would be a big help as I’m always getting turned around 😅
And an option to have a brighter colour on the fishing hook as trying to fish in the murky waters of elder woods is painful when I can barely see where the fish is 🥲

For the fishing bobber, try standing so that when you're reeling the fish in, it'll be covered by someting. That'll make it bright yellow, and very easy to see.

This last update they did something with the water in most of the game
much harder to see schools, depth, practically everything Except shells and oysters which jump to the top visually

Hey everyone! I wanted to ask yall if yall had any suggestions for settings to maybe make my game a little bit more high-contrast? I can't properly see at the moment because my glasses broke (I have a VERY intense prescription, so I'm struggling) and I'd like to play but especially with not being able to see the UI or anything in the enviroment without getting within 4 to 5 inches of the screen I haven't been able to play at all except for water the flowers n crops on my plot :')

Hey so I've got PTSD and I get triggered by the sound of fireworks. Is there any way to turn off the fireworks sounds by other players?
Perhaps download a program that modifies the kelvin measurement of your screen? I use f.lux to adjust it downwards because my eyes are sensitive in the other direction

F.lux has a bunch of different settings. Perhaps the color fidelity setting would help with increased contrast?
I think the only way that I've found to do that is I believe the sound effects volume slider? That might help, I wish there was ways to turn off sounds from others for every game, its definitely scared me a few times, but I know that the vast majority don't unfortunately 😅

Oh yay ^_^ I'm happy to provide some help. I've been using f.lux for over five years now and I can't recommend it enough.
I've also gone ahead and submitted feedback in regards to fireworks and PTSD. I doubt I'm the only Palia player with PTSD and fireworks are a common trigger.
I'm also a player with PTSD and fireworks being a trigger so it's definitely common enough issue for sure 😅 I hope there's a way they could do more accessibility settings as part of an update :(( I really love this game but not being able to play it cause I can't see most of whats on the screen and having issues with my hands because of the strain it puts on my wrists and fingers ect ect,,, kinda makes it hard to enjoy playing it lol
It is funny to me that S6 is the only company I know of to explicitly have a channel on their discord for accessibility discussions... but as games go, it's not one that I'd pick to try to make accessible to a broad audience. Lots of different game mechanics, real-time minigames, lots of 3d lighting effects, lots of unpredictable behavior from other players... If I really wanted to advertise that my game was accessible, I'd pick a 2D turn-based strategy game of some kind where there was more room to modify the interface, etc.
At least they're trying, though. (Well, supposedly. In the month or so I've been playing, I haven't seen them respond to any accessibility-specific feedback. But I don't know what their dev cycle looks like, so that may not mean anything.)
Hi! I have a question about lighting in Elderwoods, and how it affects visually impaired people. I'm trying to build a lot to host cooking parties in the future, and really want to use the Elderwoods cavern landscape as the base of that plot (it has Elderwoods lighting).
I very vaguely recalled reading (either here or on Reddit?) that Elderwoods lighting isn't friendly to vision-impaired folks. Is this true, and if so, can I understand the reasons in greater detail? Asking here cause I tried using the search function here and on Reddit but can't seem to find the messages, it might just be buried under a lot of scrolling or I'm not using the right search terms. But essentially if using the Elderwoods cavern landscape would cause issues to vision-impaired folks, then I'll use other landscapes instead.
There are a fair number of complaints about how dark it is in the actual Elderwoods, but I don't know if that applies to the housing plot landscape as well. I should think that if the actual work areas were well lit, that would be enough. But I'm not one of the ones for whom it's an issue, so I can't really say.

- Some lefties play with mouse and arrow keys
- You can use AutoHotkey to change keyboard inputs for any program. Takes a little getting used to, though.
Of course, those are just workarounds. The actual question "why, having already created the process to rebind key inputs, would you make it not work for certain keys" remains unanswered for now.
The good news is that I'm back from vacation and taking requests for AHK scripts.

What camera settings help with severe motion sickness? I haven’t been able to play since last year

About motion sickness : I experience it only IRL but for videogames never, but in Palia I started getting it, I think it's due to the shift of FOV during sprinting. I reduced the "Shaking camera" slide to 0 and it seems to help, the FOV doesn't change much and I stopped having nausea.
Hope it can help others / gives ideas to DEV to accomdate others like me
persistent center reticule helps and then playing with all the graphics settings (including in "Calibrate Screen") until it works for you - the pins have a link to a spreadsheet with some suggested settings (not all of them)
Dunno if you've already figured out what you needed to know, but wanted to throw out there that if you ask, someone on discord may have gotten that landscape and you could visit their plot to check it out. I know I see a lot of similar requests in the decor channel and people are quite welcoming about letting you visit
Hi thanks for the reply! Yes I already have my answer. I already bought the landscape to use for my original home plot! Went on a few home tours and loved it, but I was wondering if it'll be good to use it as a cooking party lot. Tbh I find it dark still even with lots of lights, esp at night, although it's sliiightly better than Elderwoods. So I'll be using other landscapes instead.
Is there a way to totally turn off vibration on ps5 , I already have it down to zero but it still vibrates intensely whilst fishing and hoeing
The tools bars need to be more clear, my watering can still had like a third left on it & just downgraded..doesnt feel very accessible if thats what it means when their instructions say "fully depleted"
Also on switch, i know theres a bug with the inventory already but ive just noticed when scrolling pages on the main screen (the 8 boxes at the bottom) i can only flip through one way now i can press up arrow but not down
Is there a way to make pop-up messages stay longer on screen? By the time my eyes have adjusted and focused on what the text says, the pop-up has disappeared.
They only break down to the level below their current grade when the decay bar is completely empty (the circle encompassing the tool), so it breaking down to the next level while it has a third of the orange circle left is an extremely unusual and rare error. Are you sure you weren't looking at the water level on the watering can? The decay bar for the health of the tool itself is usually orange when it's near breaking level and the bar behind it will be brown. It will disappear completely when it breaks down.
I don't think there is currently a way to adjust this setting, but you can always submit feedback about needing this setting for the UI.

A bug report would be good to fill out because the team should be aware of the decay bar not working appropriately on the tool. I've never seen this be reported before. And I'm confused by your second statement?

Sometimes I log in on pc and I see how gorgeous the games visuals are but I can only play on switch since the text is too small for me to read on PC. (There is a text size change in settings now but the max setting is not very big at all)

Not sure if anyone has asked before but is there a way to get subtitles or something for sounds? Like I know plants and fish you can hear those but I am a bit hard of hearing and don't hear them sometimes. Is there a way for me to be able to tell that there is something next to me without noise??
Are they some kind of alert/warning or just cute sounds? (I'm only curious because I'm fully deaf and have no idea if any of the sounds in the game would be important in any way.)
The bugs have a little “woop!” sound when they detect your presence to start running away, otherwise not too much as far as alert sounds go. Most item-specific sounds I only hear when I’m close enough to pick something up. The only time this has made a difference as a player for me is when I don’t see the dragon moss I’m stepping over 😅 I’m HOH so I can’t usually rely on it

Yep, that’s precisely when you get the little “woop!” 😂 usually, those sounds only help me to know that my rock’s beetle spawned, but has glitched underground. So many bugs stuck in walls!

Yes that's exactly what I'm looking for. It's hard because sometimes I can't hear the little plants I can pick or bugs unless my volume is at 100% and I can't have it at 100% all the time

But seriously, the noise from plants usually isn't loud enough to hear until you're standing close enough to pick it anyway, but there have definitely been occasions when I've been running past something and only noticed the sound and doubled back to pick it. And as for bugs, as often as not I only hear them object, and then try to turn around and catch them real quick. So... yeah, it would be helpful, I bet!

Bumping this again, I cannot see anything when I'm trying to fish in certain areas 🥹 it's especially bad in the elderwood. I'm playing on a 55" screen and I have good vision with my glasses on, so I'm not sure who can see it..
yeah it's like within 3m or something real close like that. There are informational sounds for a bunch of stuff like
- every foragable has a different sound
- star quality bugs
- spooked bugs
- piksii blossom bounce starting soon
- grove spawned - this one is directional and covers about half the map
- count down to start of the market games
- street lights that lead to elderwood central stables
Wait, I didn't know about the grove sound! I just figured it was the normal "it's midnight" sound for that region...
Anyway, star quality bugs is a really good one! I think that carries further than normal bug sounds (or at least sticks out from the ambient noise more) and is definitely actionable (i.e. stop and look around for a shiny even if you weren't planning on catching any bugs)
I usually have to angle my character's view while fishing. I do have to look closer to the screen to see when they "bob" the 4 times before trying to reel in the thing. I currently don't like fishing because of it.
With this information, I think it would benefit those who cannot hear it well or at all the have then as subtitles. I didn't know a lot of that existed until the last day or so.
If the bug is the same color as the ground or close to the color of the ground I can't see it. I've lost track of so many bugs because of this. I also have double vision and depth perception issues and only having 3rd person camera angles makes everything difficult. If we had 1st person it would help majorly.

You know how in your inventory or in a sale if you hover over an item it tells you what it is & its info? I wish it would also do that in your pocket space, sometimes its annoying having to go to your inventory page just to check what something is.

not that we know of, there's a mention or two of mounts in the ask the team archives but they speak generally or evade the question. the fast travel board quest seems like it's the current concession to that request - dunno if mounts would make things better or worse accessibility wise (motion sickness, effects from inevitable cosmetics, controls, timing)
It would be helpful moreso for hunting for me, sometimes i cant catch up lol esp with switch lag
if hunting from a mount was possible and if adding another element with all it's resources didn't negate the gain with more lag
I'm not really as interested about mounts for hunting as I am in getting the distance/startle thing back. That made hunting so much less impossible for me than it is now
Hi! Was wondering if anyone else gets more motion sickness or dizzy after they did the update? The graphics seem to be “more clear” but Idk if it was just me but I don’t remember it being that way and causing me dizziness. Is there a motion sickness setting at all? That would be helpful for sure.
At last count, the only setting that specifically mentions motion sickness is the "center reticle always on" setting. Mouse sensitivity (turn speed), view distance, foliage, etc. can all make a difference.
As can field of view and the lighti/color options in the calibrate screen sub menu, but i also notice that changing quality settings helps too fir some reason? I have to try something different every few updates

Btw what do people mean when they wish for "fast travel" in this context? I've always found the combination of the stables and the "Return home" button more than adequate

In other games with large maps like palia such as botw (the one that immediately comes to my mind) have the ability to fast travel to specific locations on the map (ex: einar's cave) without the need to traverse the whole map to get to a specific location. It has its upsides and downsides, the major downside being it greatly reduces the probability that the player will discover something on the map via exploration (which is problematic for quests) but the upside is that you don't spend 6 minutes in real time legging it across bahari to get across the ancient aqueduct and cross the map. Personally as a switch user I feel like with with the above issue mentioned (particularly the legging it bit, the lag on the switch can be awful at times), mounts may be the better answer in terms of efficiency and usability in the game but they come with their own host of problems as well as people have already mentioned above me

Massively multi-player online role playing game - for anyone new to the initialism especially those who are new to online games generally and started after palia started to distance themselves from the lable because it was repeatedly pointed out that 25-30 is not massive and the maps are small for that game type

To me it seems like the stable locations are closer together than the fast travel points in BotW, along with the maps being much smaller in general, not that I've timed it.
not really, theres shrines that are virtually right next to each other, as well as the ability to place your own travel node wherever you want with the DLC. i can concede on the map sizing difference, but the stables in palia are fairly spread out, with only one per main "area" on the map, whereas in BOTW each designated "area" has numerous shrines scattered across the space, as well as a main tower corresponding to each area, so i would consider it more populated and closer together than the stables in palia.
to clean up the comparison, you could say the sheika towers in botw are the stable equivalent in palia, as each acts as a fast travel location corresponding to the designated area (ex: great plateau tower in the great plataeu = central stables in central killima)

i have some intermittent vision issues and hearing issues and the subtlety of the fishing noise is just s l i g h t l y too subtle for me to considstently fish, its mostly guessing if its the third bite or not for me
what do people generally think about things like a volume slider, color/some sort of visual indicator?
i feel like theres other aid too but those were the first things that came to mind
omg i brought this up to my friend too and they just said the fishing rod jumps a little with like a noise too when you can actually start the like reeling and i didnt know that was a thing either

visual-only cues: the tip of the rod dips 1, 2, 3 (especially visible if you rotate the camera, as I usually do just for better cinematography while I'm waiting) and then if you look down at the bobber, you can see the fish actually grab it and then do a little figure 8 (which is especially funny when the "fish" in question is a chest). Even if you can't see the bobber clearly (a common issue), when a fish finally takes the bait there's a definite visual disturbance in the area where it landed.
Any chance of making purchasable sticker packs like with the lucky coin being 10,000 in game? Probably not the current packs but maybe a future one and it can maybe be a bit more than the lucky coin

i have the same issue! the fishing is really hard to notice, especially between bobs. i’m hard of hearing, and i find it almost impossible to guess which tug on the rod is the 4th one. i wish the bobber itself wasn’t BLUE so i could See It and Keep It In The Brackets. i have some loose understanding there are other bobbers that i can’t unlock yet, but it being Blue from the get go is. not ideal. haven’t been able to level my fishing. i’ve tried changing the sensitivity, etc. to help with This side of things and try to get the knack for moving the rod, but there being very little visual queues for hooking has made fishing frustrating.
Einar's guild store (unlocked at level 10) has bobbers you can buy with guild coins that are more noticeable in the water than the "fine" bobber. The red one is most helpful to stand against the water.

Try standing so that something is between you and the fish when you reel in. Whenever something is blocking your view of the fish, it becomes a bright yellow. That can help with not seeing it while reeling in, not sure how much it soes for the bites though.
i'll give it a shot, i was honestly trying to Avoid the limited visibility.
yea unfortunately. i don't think this will work for me. i can't see the bobber behind the dock posts, and now i can't tell when they bite

This is the only way I can fish because I really struggle to perceive the bobber (even with the red one) visually. Hoping they add an accessibility feature that lets you toggle this to always light up like this
another game i play added fishing as a new mechanic, but you could passively fish (basically the equivalent of setting out a net and having them get caught in it.) the vast majority of the time, you get not-rare fish, but there is a very slight chance to get the really rare ones. fishing is the most discussed mechanic in this channel because players find it inaccessible. i understand that fishing up something super rare feels amazing to the majority of players, but i wish the studio would consider a similar option. even if it’s just for bundles, so not star quality.
(to clarify: i wish the studio would consider a similar fishing mechanic that would allow people to passively fish.)
i’m also certainly not the first to suggest it! it’s come up many times in the discussions channel as well. i don’t think it takes away from someone’s feeling of accomplishment to add a more accessible option. options are the best.
Hey not sure if anyone responded to you... there is a colourblind mode, 3 actually. I also have what I call my caged chicken feet hands, when I cannot use a keyboard I use a switch pro controller, it is smaller and lighter in weight.
I am looking at getting an azeron device for all my gaming needs at some point though. As I game a lot and cannot see myself stopping any time soon.
Have you tried the accessibility settings on your pc to see if you can adjust the screen size that way? The text?
The more stuff that does get added to a game, the more bloated a game becomes, a lot of the times the worse it ends up with bugs... when some things users can find fixes in their own pc

Are the people fishing using all the fishing buffs and fishing with a buddy for the extra buff? Also adjusting view with camera
i’m very new to the game, and do not have a list of friends yet. i still can’t escape that ‘awkward’ feeling of being near other people. didn’t even know there Were buffs
that being said,,, the camera really doesn’t help. if i’m listening to something else, the best cue I have is watching the line randomly start to spazz out. about half the time i hook, and about 25% of that time am i capable of reeling anything in
especially when, from what folks say, palia doesn't play nice with adaptive controllers

I can get a fish to bite to reel them in is ridiculous I can't even reel anything in
OK so there is buff food, and clapping nearing players fishing used to also give a buff, unless that was removed, it also gave luck at the black market
You can also slow down the cast speed
im new and i was just thinking how helpful it would be to always have that bright neon yellow that happens when the fish is 'blocked' --> the bobber could be like that the whole time as an option, since it's hard to see the fish/bobber against the water sometimes, especially in bubbles or at night.
i also wonder if they could add camera help that automatically makes the view top-down when fishing?

Fishing Safe Zone Size, is the size of the area you have "wiggle" room to keep the fish in the brackets... does that make sense to everyone?
At fishing Level 5 you can purchase from Einar a recipe called Fisherman's Brew
i had to go test it cause i wasnt sure exactly what was happening but, it resets & locks the camera to a certain behind the shoulder angle during reel-in, so i guess i am asking if it that could be toggled, since i'd rather it stay at whatever angle i approach to fish. i end up moving the cam every time after i cast out, to see whats going on with the bobber
That stuff will increase the Fishing Safe Zone Size... this will give you more time to reel those babies in!
I think so, check your camera settings, I have had my setting since July 2023, written down, because almost every update they end up having to be reset

no, i turned off Camera Assist (which only says it's for running) [and i dont think Cinematic Cooking Camera would affect this] and it still auto resets the angle both AFTER casting and AFTER reeling
Honestly I don't know I tried everything. I can reel in books and non fish thing. But fish I just can't reel them in. I have all ready put in tickets no one could seem to figure it out. I'm just taking it as crappy wifi and computer issue.

I will give an example why i ask... When the garden temple first came, it was the first temple to give me difficulties... my jumps were like Jaime Sommers... props to those of you that know who that is... The Devs, nobody could figure it out... I was jumping way to high and far...

Funnily enough I joined the discord due to wishing to ask about something being added to fishing that would make it much easier, as with my impaired mobility, I really struggle to catch any fish.
I can see when the fish bite, but once the mini-game begins, I lose every fish because I am unable to move my mouse or controller quick enough to keep the fish from escaping and it's very demoralizing.
I thought of a possible solution:
If I could use the A and D keys to move it instead, I probably could do it! Just an idea. ^^
i wonder if Fisherman's Brew could be applied as a party bonus? or a new low level item "Friendfisherman's Brew" with other foraging ingredients? (maybe require a lot in quantity to balance?) that you could automatically receive the recipe the first time you buddy up and get the friend fishing bonus?
i wonder if its possible for the devs to rework flare usage. would be nice to be able to shoot multiple for resources
THIS PLEASE i hurt my shoulder from falling off a ladder and the repeated jerking motion hurts so much
so it won't help if the entire mechanic is inaccessible to you but for others reading this, if it's a matter of difficulty, "fishing with a buddy" works differently from other mechanics in that it does not require being in a party, nor even working on the same task. all it takes is standing near someone who is fishing (reliably true in the Underground if you've gotten that far) and waiting for them to catch a fish. every time they get a fish, you get a bonus on how fast you can successfully reel in fish, up to 50% (5 stacks of the buff), which lasts for something like 20 minutes.
Yeah - In a party, hook boosters, near people, and stacking all the foods with buffs does help make even epic fish easier but they're still difficult and doesn't make the mechanic itself better. I hope (but don't expect) they share the report(s) generated from the accessibility audit because I'm really curious about how fishing stacks up.

Specifically about the text sizes, it hurts my eyes to read esp on my switch. On PC it's not so bad but I can imagine folks with vision issues might struggle still. Introducung a UI scaling feature like what they have in sims 4 would be fantastic.

I have an issue that might be an accessibility issue? I’m not sure how to classify it. Basically a close friend of mine who I really want to play this game, for various health issue-related reasons I won’t share, is very triggered by feces. Mentions of it, images of it, etc. To the point where it can negatively impact her mood for several days at a time. I was just wondering if there was some way to make a texture change, or something, that would alter the in-game icons for fertilizer.

How serious are you about this last line? I bet I could help you with an AutoHotkey script to move the mouse left and right when you press certain keys on the keyboard. (A and D would be tough because you need them to walk, and I can't specify "when fishing", but two unused keys would work.)

Is there a way to make the map or compass easier to understand/use. The compass at the top of the screen when starting the game just shows you how far they are and shows you the flag on the icon. But it doesnt show a picture of who it is. So when you go to open the map to look at who is who and you put a waypoint on it but it still looks really similar to the other quests on the compass. Also what really helps those (like me) with really bad direction issues to have a floor guide when you put a way point. To explain , you know in other games there is some type of line or foot steps to show you how to get to your waypoint? Thats what im talking about. Because otherwise the compass and map are REALLY confusing (at least for me).
I know im bad at explaining and wording things so if any of this doesnt make sense let me know so i can try and re-explain it.
If you're not seeing an NPC on your waypoint/map/compass, it's because you haven't met them yet. Once you meet an NPC, they're picture becomes visible and they're not a gray question mark anymore on the map. So if you have NPCs you "can't see," it's because you need to meet them in the village first, and then they'll be visible on your map.
And no, currently there is guide for leading you, just the use of the waypoint on the map to mark where you need to go and then following that mark via distance on the compass/or following the quest location via distance. You can always send in feedback about wanting a guide once a waypoint is placed though

I started streaming cooking parties but wasn’t aware that some people don’t want their igns seen. Is it possible to add a setting to hide people’s names from your own settings? Like a stream setting to where everyone is nameless and maybe another that makes others have random free in game looks? Someone told me that they had a person recognize their SO in game in a stream and it caused a huge fight and fallout and now they like to not be in streams.

Probably because the setting itself just says "Mode" and is "default" by default so unless you click on it, you don't see that the other options are "Streamer Mode" settings. (Pinged you in #💻│tech-help with a screenshot)

I'm not sure if this is where I should ask this question but is it possible to get two different sets of nameplates at the same time/from the same week? One person was encouraging me to go for it but another cautioned me against it saying something had changed with an update and I might lose the votes from the first one or they won't count anymore or something. I'm confused!

Ah! sorry i just saw this. I am not sure I totally understand the reasoning behind not wanting character skins to be seen either. This is a story a friend told me and she is uncomfortable with her skin being public bc ig its her brand and very recognizable by her community? If it sounds a bit weird it's bc I don't really understand either but she was adamant about consent and this being a big deal to her and others and it's not a huge deal for me to just accommodate that ask so i figured i would ask.
As Kaf suggested using the streamer setting can turn off the IGNs of other players in shot, but it's really on the person playing the game -- if they're concerned about privacy and other people in their community seeing them doing something -- to take care of that by not attending parties where streaming is occuring. I am very doubtful the game would be able to accommodate a "scramble" setting for player looks within the streamer mode because the game can barely withstand loading player looks as they are. However, it never hurts to send in feedback on it.
Yeah! We found that setting with the help from this chat and we decided that we would change skins when players didn’t want to be seen. I appreciate all the help everyone!
Out of curiosity, how does you as the party host changing your skin prevent the person concerned about privacy from being seen, if their skin/outfit is the noticeable one? Or are they also changing outfits for the streaming session?
Adding to Froggasandra Romy, make sure to let people know you're streaming beforehand, and if it wouldn't prevent your stream you could add a spot that is not visible on your stream and let her cook there as a workaround. Additionally, if she doesn't want to be recognisable she could change her hair and outfit to a random one while on your stream.
Honestly I don’t even know why it was a huge issue I have 9 followers on YT dawg but I want to make people comfortable and I’m a big believer in consent in all parts of relationships so I’m doing my best to accommodate.
But like I said above we are going to have them change skins if they don’t want to be known. Bc I think the devs updated streamer mode to erase everyone’s names. Ty so much yall and consider this case closed.
Having the option to host parties in game would be a gamechanger, paliaparty site is getting spammy recently and it's been harder to find parties or even access them (sometimes the hosts ask people to join their discords or streams and it makes it even less accessible 😭 ), being able to invite people directly over inside palia and host in palia would help us find parties more effectively and would take away from the spam issue, also parties keep players playing longer so it would encourage more players to stay online longer, seems like it would be a plus for both the game and the players
Agreed. I do not have the spoons nor the want to join a new discord everytime i want to be a part of a party or community.

"Access" is apparently too broad if you're outside that community
I'm sure they would be open to that if a request was sent in via modmail!! They've been super helpful setting up some other QoL stuff for the discord channels.
Whilst i dont disagree. Accessibility isnt just for disabled people & it may discourage non-disabled people to ask

People who are around: thoughts on changing the name of the channel to disability-accessibility? It might cut down on off-topic requests, but the title itself is not fully inclusive.
I note that the pinned posts and the channel description just repeat "accessibility" without any clarification. That much can surely be improved - open to suggestions.

(I don't know of any one concise term that a. doesn't feel patronizing to those who do identify as disabled or handicapped, and b. includes the neurodiversity crowd without excessive medicalization, but my understanding is that "differences" is pretty neutral in the current climate.)
i think #disability-and-accessibility is good, and have the description address the "discussion" part,
then hopefully less people will read "access" and mistake it for a general chat channel about 'accessing' anything, at least i guess that's what happens when they read 'tech' and 'issues' from the channels above
Id try & stick with "or other disability or access needs" personally just because, for me "other differences" feels like an avoidance of saying disability (not saying you were doing that but thats how i read it)
I think if everyones determined to change the title to add disability in (which i still very respectfully dont think it needs) it should maybe be accessibility before disability in the name so that the accessibility comes up first in the short form so people dont mistake it for purely a disability channel

I get where you're coming from. For this conversation it so happens that I'm three different demographics (although, of course, I'm only one person and others may feel differently):
- my vision is pretty ish, but honestly I think that's within the "average" range, so if a game/website uses low-contrast (especially gray-on-gray) text I consider that a "them" issue and they need to get with the program
- I have ADHD and that's only an issue sometimes (social model of disability: I'm "disabled" by open plan offices with their constantly ringing telephones, etc., not by my neurotype per se.)
- I have a chronic illness plus anxiety/trauma, and they're extremely flippin' disabling - that's a "me" issue even if there are things that would help (benches, community-oriented housing, etc.)
So like... yeah, you don't have to be disabled to need accessibility (especially basic accessibility standards that have already been established.) And, at the same time, calling my health issues a "difference" or some other euphemism would feel pretty patronizing. Hence not wanting to move too quickly on changes.
Im also disabled fyi but i dont share my disabilities/conditions/access needs online (just as we're clarifying!)

(Personally, I actually prefer to identify as "handicapped" and wish we could bring it back; the comparison to Smash Bros [or golf, if you insist] feels like a better description of my limitations. But I feel like that would cause an uproar lol)
Hi Elena! Yes I am for the changes to channel name to help keep the channel clear of the 'clutter' questions. I don't personally have any issues with the change or find it constraining, and has been discussed, I think have the word "disability" in the title of the channel will prevent people who are looking for tech help from scrolling down to this channel.
I appreciate the desire to be sensitive to the needs of all and the different groups who may need accessibility help, that's a really nice thing to do.
But if we consider the average experience of a user coming to the discord for help with the game itself, which is often how people end up here in this channel with the 'clutter questions,' they're not reading channel descriptions and they're just clicking around and usually spamming multiple channels with their questions -- including this one. I do think the word "disability" is more recognizable to someone who does not have a disability or accessibility issues and therefore would stick out to that individual more in their pursuit of answers, and would hopefully give them pause before they put an irrelevant issue here that's better suited for one of the channels in the same category or somewhere completely different.
Just another perspective to consider! It's great to be considerate and inclusive, but also to consider how can the channel name actually direct the people who are on a one-track mind of seeking help with their in-game problem.
i wish it didnt need changed but in my short time here i’ve seen a LOT of offtopic stuff, even people using it as a bot channel which is honestly kind of hurtful & demoralizing, i guess less people than i thought know what “accessibility” is, so i do think “disability” as the first word is a necessary change for channel utility, though not changing anything in concept for people who Know…
maybe hopefully people who dont know will even learn by association that “accessibility” mostly is used as a specific word about access needs, not just “how things can be accessed”
fwiw i think the people looking for access need(s) support will be much more likely to know that “disability” is a related topic, and still recognize the channel use even as the 2nd word, this is why i feel strongly it should be “-and-” not just a dash between the words

i think what doesnt help is the sheer amount of text channels this server has, ive seen people go to this channel asking how to access the trading channel thinking this is how you get permission to be able to chat in the trading channel. i also think that non native english speakers might not know exactly the meaning of the word "accessibility" which may be another reason why you see these "cluttered" questions as they think this channel is about "how do i get permission to do this" or something similar of that nature
yes also that it is the very last channel, perhaps people pick it arbitrarily when they scroll all the way down
And we saw the screenshot last night -- the trading channel, when you don't have permissions yet to chat -- can lead you to here by the experience of "done here? Check this out now!"
We know people do not pause long enough to read thoroughly. On mobile, too, accessing channel descriptions is a pain in the butt. The channel name could be a great compromise to help reduce the clutter.
maybe discord even suggests it because it’s the last channel, what if there was a #bot-commands below this channel? would it send people there potentially?
Could be! I must admit I am not very well versed in community set up for such a large server -- I've only set up community onboarding for smaller servers with less channels, but I was able to pick the channels I wanted to direct people to.
then maybe admins can look into it and reroute it 
i think its more so the fact that this channel is lumped into the issues and feedback category, people might see this as a channel where people go "oh this is the channel where i can ask how can i access the trading channel or how can i post a party", basically implying that this channel is talking about discussions on how to improve the discord server itself or how to access the other channels
yeah i looked at other ‘folders’ subsection areas but idk where else it would make sense
